According to Canessa, the 50MB limit effectively capped the number of old titles being released and enabled independent developers to participate in an exciting new platform. The danger, Canessa asserts, is that by increasing the MB limit, Microsoft could open the floodgates for hundreds of old games, foster a demand for greater complexity and slam the door on independent developers. In spite of these misgivings, he believes that strong “portfolio management’ should ensure the prosperity of the service. “If Microsoft continues to stick to the principles of what belongs in Arcade and what does not – focusing on fostering indie and small game development, keeping the number of games manageable, and scrutinizing games and game quality - the platform will be fine.”

Greater complexity? More old (but probably post-1990) games? If that's the danger in raising the MB limit then I say it's time to live dangerously. And independant games don't necessarily have to suffer in this model as long as you don't release them alongside bigger, more reknown titles.

It's time to rewrite that XBLA mission statement.

With the popularity of Catan and Pinball FX, it's pretty clear that people want new stuff and that if it's decent it won't get swallowed up by the older content.

Speaking of such things on the podcast invterview with Gaia they mentioned when the subject
of the rlease date was broached all they could say is that Microsoft is apparently and allegedly going to release a new 8-10 game list like they did before, a list that Street Trace will be a part of.

Well, it looks like that list was a week early and two games short. Also, only one game this week. From that other thread.

A Classic Is Reborn! “Double Dragon” Arrives on Xbox LIVE Arcade This Wednesday

Six new titles also coming soon to Xbox LIVE Arcade.

REDMOND, Wash. — May 8, 2007 — The legendary arcade classic that introduced gamers to co-op street-brawling action is back and looking better than ever. Team up with a friend or prepare to go it alone, because “Double Dragon” is hitting Xbox LIVE® Arcade Wednesday, May 9, at 9 a.m. GMT (2 a.m. PDT).

“Double Dragon,” from Empire Interactive Ltd., is a genuine re-creation of the classic coin-op arcade game. For the first time ever, fans of the franchise can play “Double Dragon” online with a friend over Xbox LIVE.1 The game features enhanced art, a new soundtrack and a host of extras.

“Double Dragon” is the story of Billy and Jimmy Lee, twin brothers who learned to fight on the cold, tough streets of their city. Their expert knowledge of the ancient martial art of Sou-Setsu-Ken, combined with their streetwise outlook, means that they’re two of the most formidable combatants ever to walk the streets. Billy and Jimmy will use their feet, fists, elbows and whatever weapons come to hand to defeat the gang that kidnapped Billy’s girlfriend.

“Double Dragon” will be available worldwide for 400 Microsoft® Points and is rated E10+ by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, with mild suggestive themes and violence.

Game Features

The title includes the following:

· Two-player co-op multiplayer locally or over Xbox LIVE1

· Special extras such as a look at the original Japanese and U.S. “Double Dragon” sales fliers

· Gameplay with either the original graphics or with new high-definition graphics

· All new music

· Hints and tips for newcomers

· Three leaderboards

· Customizable button configurations

· Ability to earn up to 12 Achievements and 200 Gamerscore points

More Exciting Titles Coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade

The Xbox LIVE Arcade library, now 58 games strong and growing, continues to expand and provide every type of gamer with accessible, pick-up-and-play game experiences. An electrifying lineup of racing games, card and board games, and both original and classic action games will be coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade in the future, including the following (not in chronological order of release):

· “Mad Tracks.” This 3-D racing party game from Load Inc. and D3Publisher recalls all the fun of playing with toy cars from childhood. Up to four players can race micro cars in a variety of gameplay modes in familiar settings such as a living room, a restaurant and a toy store.

· “Rush’n Attack.” Also known as “Green Beret,” from Konami Digital Entertainment Inc., this is a faithful next-generation update of this classic coin-op arcade title where the player assumes the role of a special forces agent sent behind enemy lines to infiltrate an enemy military complex and free captured prisoners of war.

· “Soltrio Solitaire.” From Silver Creek Entertainment, this is a collection of 18 different solitaire games, offering co-op and competitive two-player solitaire game modes.

· “Spyglass Board Games.” From Strange Flavour Ltd. and Freeverse, this offers classic versions of the world’s most beloved board games, including chess, checkers, mancala and reversi, as well as the ability to enjoy video chat with friends via the Xbox LIVE Vision camera.

· “Street Trace:NYC.” This is a hover board racing and arena battle game from Gaia Industries Inc. set against the urban wasteland of future New York City. Make your mark on the leaderboards in intense eight-player action over Xbox LIVE, or battle at home through split-screen or single-player tournaments.

· “Undertow.” This is a fast-paced action shooter from Chair Entertainment Group that thrusts players underwater as they battle for control of the oceans, and features a robust single player/co-op campaign and up to 16-player multiplayer action over Xbox LIVE.1

Like all Xbox LIVE Arcade games, the above titles will have a free demo that will allow gamers to try out a game before deciding to buy. More details will be available closer to each title’s launch later this year.

What happened to Speedball 2?

It was just announce, and if I'm not mistaken, it's being developed by the same guys who just finished Double Dragon. At least let them get one game out before complaining about the next one. :)

I wonder if Rush N' Attack sells well, any chance we can get Jailbreak? On top of that, let's get some other arcade classics in there like Heavy Barrel, Time Soldiers, Black Tiger, Quiz and Dragons, Mat Mania, Super Dodgeball, and Simpsons.

Mad Tracks wasn't even on my radar until I saw these screens. Hope they can execute as it looks like it could be ridiculous fun.

You can see Mad Tracks in motion vis a vis a XBLA montage video that was posted a few pages back.

Damn, surely it would be a piece of piss to bring Revolt to XBLA.

Funnily enough, it was at one point slated for release on the Xbox 1's version of Live Arcade but the deal fell through.

Just been browing it's page on Wiki...

An Xbox version of the game with Xbox Live online multiplayer was created exclusively for an Xbox Live introduction video

In 2006 Canadian game publisher Throwback Entertainment acquired the license and publishing rights to Re-Volt and has confirmed a next-generation version is on the way
.

Since EA's Simpsons game isn't coming out until the fall, I expect The Simpsons Arcade Game to come out in July. They would have to strike a deal with Konami just like Ubisoft did for TMNT, but it makes logical sense to cash in on the property when the demand is at its highest.

I'm definitely scoring Double Dragon. Videos seem to indicate that it's pretty much the same outside of the ugly facelift. I'm sure that'll lead to lots of people complaining how dated the gameplay is yet that won't stop me. I do hope the fixed the elbow attack or multiplayer is gonna be pretty boring.

I should give Mad Tracks and Street Trace more credit than I did before. I wouldn't have expected a 4 player split screen mode for ST, might be fun. Mad Tracks looks more like a behind-the-wheel Micro Machines - frankly, it makes me wish No Cliche still existed and we'd get Toy Commander.

Good god at Rush 'N Attack. Looks like awful, awful shit.

But you know what, **** all those games because THIS game just came up on the OFLC!
