Can someone explain what E4 is or how it plays? Link to a video of gameplay? It looks like Geometry Wars. But does it play like that? Or is this a visualizer non-game?

Go to your system blade/memory and delete the marketplace information file from the hard disk.

Really? Is this a known problem, why did it happen in the first place?
This will fix it?

3 bits of stunning news this week. So what is more likely: did someone hack into the XBLA computer, or have the entire staff been replaced by aliens?

Chalk it up to a shortage of ported old arcade games.

Argh! Too many good games!

I keep meaning to buy Puzzle Quest on XBLA but decided to wait a little bit because I'm playing a few other games at the same time, and now I'm tempted by both E4 and the cheaper version of Lumines...

Completely unrelated to the topics at hand, I'm just posting this as a suicide note on the internet. I just reached level 84 in Mutant Storm Reloaded -- on black belt of course -- for the second time this past week, and I fucked it up for the second time. I'm almost ashamed to post how badly I fucked up the last time, though. That was pure pain.

I had five lives on 84. All of them gone on 84.

I've never played either of these, are they going to be worth buying?

Embarrassing confession: Recently I have been too busy with all the real games for XBLAs like Puzzle Fighter, Space Giraffe, Puzzle Quest, etc. even though they have been so hyped here. I usually only try them out for five minutes and can't even figure out what's going on.

Off Topic: Anyone see this "Trix and Treats" section with "kid-friendly games" (currently no XBLA games listed, just some demos and videos)? You'd think they would make a permanent kid section on the dashboard. Of course you'd think they would also make a separate blade for Arcade games and demos.

I only played the PC one, but it's definitely a game game. The game is basically built on timing explosions to get the biggest chains, collecting items to extend the game, and chain up more explosions. Like GW, it's a game built on simple concepts that gets deeper as it goes along, but the actual gameplay has a unique feel to it.

Guess I'll get E4 and Lumines.

Question: For the people who have played both games is E4(or E3 on the PSP) that big of a jump over E2?

Weird out that works out...goes from Every Extend to Every Extend Extra and now Every Extend Extra Extreme...bleah

Pretty good week. I'll probably check out the demo of EEEE, but I've always been fairly interested in it, so if it's any good, I'll buy.

Speedball I'm also going to have to demo. I liked the original Speedball way back when, but I don't think that would hold up today... I've never played Speedball 2, so hopefully it's better.

Speedball 2 XBLA review up on Angry Gamer:

I don't want a 3D graphics upgrade, thanks. It's always the first thing I turn off on Xbox LIVE Arcade games. Thankfully you can do it here, and that's when you see that the "3D mode" is just a skin they lay on top of the original. You can flick between the modes at any time which is kind of cool. I think a lot of people will feel like the game is uncontrollable while they play it in 3D mode - the game still behaves as if you're controlling it with an old school Atari-style joystick, and the extra fluidity and range of motion that the 3D models sport send mixed signals. Using the analog stick is also a recipe for disaster.
The team update screen drives me nuts. Not because it's overcomplicated (it's not). Not because it gets in the way of the game (it's essential). Not because they expanded the team roster so it takes longer to get a "fully kitted out" set of players (great idea). It drives me nuts because it's bloody impossible to read the menu options on a SD screen. This is ESPECIALLY maddening when the original game had a perfectly presentable menu screen that was totally readable on the Amiga / MegaDrive version which ran at, what, 320 × 200? Why did they mess this up? Agh. There's no option to revert to the classic menu graphics, which is just…agh. Silly. Stupid. Probably not worth all my ranting, but still.
The online code actually works! I know that seems kind of silly to be excited about, but this is Xbox LIVE we're talking about and it's always a crapshoot. It's nothing fancy but you can be playing against a friend pretty quickly. And to be honest, two player Speedball 2 is what it's all about. You'll be calling your friends fucking assholes in no time at all.

So…yeah. Despite the annoying menu system and lack of trademark soundtrack, this is STILL a bloody awesome game. It's been a long wait, but we're glad to report that Speedball 2 has made it safely to the modern world.
Overall: If you don't get this you're an idiot and I'll spit on you if I see you at a party, not that I go to parties anyway / 10

I didn't want to make a new thread for this even though it has nothing to do with Arcade. Why are my downloads slow in general? They get stuck on 1% for a long time. Can anyone help?

how much different is E4 then the psp version?

A lot, just looking at the videos. I think there's no bosses. Quickens can go over 20 and beyond. Combos can go over a couple thousand. There's shield pickups for invincibility. You have to time your attacks to get a bigger attack radius now, not like the PSP version where you hold the button then detonate. There's also multipliers to increase your score.

I'm not sure if I like the new changes, but fuck it, it's Every Extend on the big screen in 5.1.

Wario, you still 360-less?

Don't tell me (as your Gamercard suggests) that Tetris Splash made your 360 conk out. :lol :lol

My bro sighted a X360 in Costco out of town (it's sold out here), so I'll be back by the end of this week. Buying E4 as soon as I get it connected :)

Fuck Tetris :lol

Well, everyone thought that E4 would be coming out next year too. Fwiw, the Rez HD page has appeared on the Japanese Xbox site. Says "this Winter" which is the same window Ikaruga and a all the other upcoming JP XBLA games are due. Could be 2008, or could be Nov/Dec. Since they don't have pages yet and Rez HD does now, it might be the next one.

Rocketmen: Axis of Evil Coming VERY Soon?

After a flurry of activity and information about Rocketmen: Axis of Evil back in August, Capcom has been very quiet about the game.

However, the refreshingly forthwright Christian Svensson (Sr. Director of Strategy at Capcom) has blessed us with more knowledge. And what's better, it's about the release date. On the Capcom forums he says:

Release, worldwide, cross platform is targeting mid-late October (slightly later than originally envisioned as we've decided to do full localization for Europe) however we need to find a window where both XLA and PSN can prop as near simultaneously as possible, which doesn't always work on our schedule. So long story short, it could be a bit later due to factors out of our control.

Sounds like we'll be playing this game within the month. And finally a bit of news that is positive for Europe (as opposed to the usual contest/free game that you unfortunates don't get) -- full localization. Cause to celebrate?

Patch incoming for one Space Giraffe in the form of a "Title Update."

http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2007/10/17/554014.aspx

For those of you busy traveling through time and space to hypnotic beats, psychedelic colors and gazing into The Eyes of Allard, a title update for Space Giraffe will be released later this week. The update includes the following updates:

* Players will no longer be able to indefinitely hold the power zone at its maximum on a given level.
* Players will no longer be able to indefinitely ‘juggle’ enemies.

The leaderboards and start level bonuses will be refreshed as part of the title update. Any levels that have been unlocked through gameplay will remain accessible.

Where the fuck did Castle Crashers go? They better have added TONS of content to it or something.

Yeah, I was aware it was announced as an early '08 title, but it was on show full force what seems like a year ago. PAX, wasn't it? On display, 4 player working, smooth, tons of media was released, and since then pretty much nothing. =|

I'm starting to think I should get this game. I don't like puzzle games usually but this one intrigues me.

The puzzle part is only half the game, I like it because of the RPG aspects myself. Totally addictive, totally worth the points.

When people said that Everquest and WOW were "digital crack", it was just a euphemism. Puzzle Quest is a narcotic in the purest sense of the word.

Shardbot must be offline recharging or something. Gamespot is reporting Battlestar Galactica is releasing next week for XBLA.

Gamespot said:
October is shaping up to be a busy month for Australian developer Auran. Earlier this week, the studio launched its action-focused massively multiplayer online game Fury. Today, Sierra Online revealed that the developer's other principal product, TV-series-inspired Battlestar Galactica, will hit the jet stream for PCs on October 23 and be a part of Microsoft's weekly Xbox Live Wednesday update on October 24.

Battlestar Galactica fans eager for a refresher before the new season launches on the Sci-Fi Channel in late November will be pleased to know the game includes 10 single-player missions based on popular episodes from the TV series. The flight-combat shooter also features multiplayer domination, deathmatch, and team deathmatch modes, accommodating eight players in the XBL game and 16 pilots in the PC version. Gamers can align themselves with either the human or Cylon factions and have a selection of four ships from each contingent.

Xbox 360 owners can pick up Battlestar Galactica for 800 Microsoft points ($10) through the Xbox Live Marketplace. The PC version will be offered both as a digital download and via retail for $19.99. It is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
