HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA! Digital Eclipse is doing the SotN port! Judging from all their other efforts on XBLA, it's going to be another hilarious 2XSAI-laden port. So much for all the hopes that a Japanese team was actually working on it. I guess that's the bitter reality, no Japanese developer wants to touch XBLA.
You forget yourself young man! What about Q's awesome effort with Lumines?
:(

Hey its cheaper to outsource it.
But man, Digital Eclipse is pimpin' it with all these ports huh?
Didn't they also do Capcom Classic Collection games too?

Digital Eclipse make arcade perfect versions of these games, add some updated graphic options and online leaderboards. What are you looking for? Some Japanese names on the credits?

Okay, so Namco and Q are supporting XBLA. But all the interesting games that SHOULD be on XBLA are from Capcom and Konami! :(

Imagine D&D games with 4 player over XBL...........
which will never happen now because of licensing.

Charlottetown just opened this year, and SotN XBLA seems to be their first announced project..... ^^;
Yeah... great -_-;;;
Well, as long as they don't touch the code, and just emulate it, we should all be happy....
.....
.....

-_-;;;;;;

We're only 6 hours away and we still don't know the game. Is there any achievements out there that could tell us which the next game is?

I'm hoping for something original... not that I don't appreciate the classics, but I'm just in the mood for something flashy and new. Small Arms, Roboblitz... whatever. Is good with me.

I probably would bite on Defender as well since they fixed the craptastic control scheme of old.

LOL I am thinking of the quote... how did it go?

"Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays does not mean a new game will be released every Wednesday, just that the new games, when they are released, would be released on Wednesdays."

Something like that.

Probably Roboblitz, but I'm pulling for Mutant Storm Empire. I think that's the only thing that could pull me away from Gears right now.

I just heard from Xbox Live Arcade’s Silver Surfer (Greg Canessa, head of Xbox Live Arcade) and he let me know that his weeks Xbox Live Arcade title ‘Defender’ is just finishing up in the certification department. Why am I telling you this? Because it means that we won’t hit our traditional Wednesday 0800 am GMT release time, but the the team is working as hard as they can to get it into your hands as soon as possible on Wednesday. Thanks for your patience, and I’ll post as soon as it is available for download.

Its Defender...and its delayed

For crying out loud, then just ****ing delay the 25 year old arcade game by a week and give us Roboblitz.

Getting a bit bored with the old games now.:(

Seriously. They need to get with it and stagger this things. A little old, a little new. Not Uno deck, gamer pictures, Contra, Defender...

What was the last new property to hit Live anyway? Lumines I suppose, if you count that, but before that I can't even remember.

yeah seriously, if they need to take "more time" to release a slightly optimised arcade game i played about 20+ years ago why bother? We want some of the original live arcade games released ffs, i refuse to buy these crappy arcade conversions that have no replayability value after a couple of hours at least the original xbl arcade games are worth buying to support the small teams that work on them.....

qft. i would def. spend money on good original arcade titles. like you said...i like supporting the smaller/independant teams out there

Defender was one of the most difficult games in the early arcades. Its an incredibly game, I can't wait to see if they got the control scheme right.

Canessa seriously needs to be fired from XBLA. I assume it's him that's the big retro nut that greenlighted 18 Robotron clones when XBLA first came out, and is still biased towards old content now. And the delay is such bullshit too, the game has been finished for a while.

God damn it, I really wanted Assault Heroes today. :(

Give him a break, ok.. There are so many legal things and certification things you can´t imagine. There are many games in the pipeline and maybe next year there are 2 games every wednesday. I think you cannot blame him alone.
Go play Gears of War....in the mean time

That game is on the debug XBLM since a few days, it's very nice. It doesn't seem like it's the final version though.
Next-gen Ikari Warriors FTW :)

I know, that's why I'm fiending for it! When I saw pictures and stuff, I didn't really care much, but playing the demo was instantly convincing. I loved it, it's going to be my new favorite when it comes out.

Kinda lame how you lost your weapon upgrades when dying though... :/

I think Cloning Clyde was the last real original title. Lumines is just a PSP port for the most part and the less said about Totemball the better.

Hmm, just saying, but I think that comparison is a bit off. It feels more like (yet another) Robotron clone, only this time it scrolls vertically (too slowly, I might add).

Still, what made a port of Defender so complicated?
XBLA team incompetence? It was certainly finished when I played it a couple of weeks back.

It seems to me like the XBLA team spends most of the week hanging out and playing Frogger, and then they actually start working on releases on wednesday morning. How the hell else do you run into delays with finished stuff?

OK, time to update the bitch list. Red titles STILL not out in Japan :(

All of our initial games will be available in all Live countries, and I think that everything will in the future unless there are publishing rights issues. As far as localization, most launch games are 100% localized. The only ones I can think of that aren't are the Midway games - there the out of game menus are localized, but the ROMs remain untranslated.
Just quoting this.
AFAIK, there are no publishing rights issues regarding SFII, Lumines and Defender in Japan. The Lumines translation is incomplete, SFII seems to have been "secured" for another platform, and Texas/UMK3/Defender -- no explanation. You need to fix this MS. Don't keep giving Japan crappy leftovers. If you can't deliver stuff promised to the US, at least secure some Japan-specific content. And no, Yie-Ar Kung Fu is NOT enough.

MS seems to not care about Japanese people. XBL (Marketplace and Arcade) is soooo empty if you only have a Japanese account...

Oh I'm really kind of tired of this by now. How do you know it's finished? Do you run the certification program? Have you QA'd every level and every instance as well?

sigh.

yeah I'm being totally defensive because I know some really hard working folks on the xbla team internally (who aren't even responsible for working on defender, mind you, that's midway and DE who work on it) trying to get everything to happen smoothly and as quickly as possible. there are challenges to any development and I hear the frustration from both sides -- from the board and from the guys working inside MS. it sucks, but it sucks more to hear someone complain about teams without even knowing what's up. maybe i'm a sucker for feeling bad for everybody. :(

the bottom line with defender is that it wasn't finished when you thought it was.

if it makes you feel any better, I think just about every title I saw this week, had "worldwide" listed as the location(s) for release with one exception that I can't remember and not like I can say.

but i also have no idea why the stuff on your bitch list isn't out.

It's well past 1AM, GAF is back up and Small Arms is not.

Hey, whats up with that Major Nelson?
