Oh I'm really kind of tired of this by now. How do you know it's finished? Do you run the certification program? Have you QA'd every level and every instance as well?

Some people know jack shit about game development but pretend they do and just like to complain. If they had released the game prematurely and it like freezes every time you scored over 1 million points then people would complain too. But obviously it's done!

Meanwhile, in Washington. .

<XBLA_Bob> Well, we're late, but it's time to finally get Small Arms up on Live.
<XBLA_Rob> WAIT! WAIT JUST A MINUTE!
<XBLA_Bob> ?
<XBLA_Rob> Push the Uno deck.
<XBLA_Bob> What!?
<XBLA_Rob> The Small Arms Uno deck.
<XBLA_Rob> Put it up on Live, NOW.
<XBLA_Bob> Wait a second
<XBLA_Rob> JUST DO IT. I'LL GET STARTED ON THE PRESS RELEASE.
<XBLA_Rob> JUST PUT UP THAT ****ING UNO DECK, NOW.

15 minutes later. .

Things are heating up on XBOX Live with some seriously furry action thanks to Small Arms, available now for Uno!

(Edit: Haha. . It's actually up now. We have defeated City Hall.)

Now now people, stop complaining. If you keep complaining arne will be sad again because he'll feel sorry for all the incompetent (but HARD WORKING!) people working on XBLA! :lol

I don't get. Please share funny insight about incompetency and lack of work ethic of these stupid lazy people you know.

Oh yes:

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

There. Now Boris add humor to post. Laugh at cleverness!

Thank you for putting words in my mouth! :P

Competency is reflected through the ability to deliver on promises. Something XBLA has shown again and again to be incapable of. Do you want to correct that?

Small Arms rocks :D

Small Arms first impressions of the trial version

very pretty. charecter models are nice. everything looks good in HD
aiming with the right stick gets some getting used to. the sensitivity seemed to high or something. it doesnt take to long to adjust though. it has a bunch of different weapons with each has a different special move. one that i saw that was cool was that the crossbow's special is you shoot ,which seemed to be, an explosive apple at the end of an arrow at your enemy.
i had fun, could be a purchase for me.

Well, you said "incompetent", and used "HARD WORKING" in an obviously sardonic manner, so...maybe "incompetent and lazy" rather than "stupid, lazy" would better frame your choice of words?

Just saying: maybe there's more to this than meets the eye, and maybe personally insulting developers about whose work you have no clue isn't the best gauge of the situation.

Not that I'm on a mission here, as yours is a pretty typical rant, I guess, and usually I'm the last to defend developers. Still, it seems like XBLA development must have weird issues all its own, otherwise...WTF WOULD be up with the amount of time it takes to convert these old-ass games?

Complaints: Aiming with the right stick blows. Shooting shouldn't be a part of a game like this. In the chaos it is difficult to tell which character you are - it needs an arrow indicator. Characters are waaaay unbalanced. Invinciblity window after a melee hit is too long.

Good things: Multi seems pretty smooth.

I was not implying in any way that they were lazy. The hard working part was a dig at what Arne said. I understand that people are hard at work making things work, and many people are hard working peeps in general, but I think most of the complaining done on this thread isn't about how much work people are putting (or not putting) in, rather it's about how incompetent the entire XBLA system is making itself look.

No one is calling the developers lazy, but rather we are annoyed at the almost comedic level of support on the release end, be it broken promises or just underdelivering on things they previously "committed" to.

I don't so much mind the aiming since it's really just Metal Slug with other people, but I agree with everything else. Some of the characters (Sup Knight) start off completely gimped, while others (Sup chicken) can just obliterate everyone else right off the bat.

The invincibility windows in general need to be drastically shortned, be it from melee attacks or spawning. It's really ridiculous.

As for the ammo, either your default weapon needs unlimited ammo and the damage toned down, or you need a hell of a lot more of it. The weapon spawns seem few and far between, and it's not like you swap weapons. On the train, you just have to always keep control on the right hand of the screen and keep picking up every weapon that you come across. It's pretty weak.

The game is definitely entertaining, but it has some pretty big design issues.

That's my major gripe so far. Played a couple multiplayer games and half the time I had no idea where I was. Shooting seems ok, although it would've been better if just tilting the right stick caused you to fire in that direction, instead of having to pull the trigger as well. Add the trigger for the "special" weapon stuff, which should be used more rarely (I guess?).

Also, demi and myself already have the Six Degrees achievement. If you want it, send either of us an invite.

It inexplicably gives out 0 points, which is just about what this game should've been selling for on marketplace.

Small Arms is cute but I have some issues with it…

It doesn't feel like you hit anything.
The train sequence when you have 3 PC's ganging you with auto hit weapons are really frustrating.
Air maneuvering feels really lagy

Also, why doesn't the camera center on my character? Half the time when I get an indicator that a character is off screen (but is still within the arena) it is my character. Come on, dolts! The game is supposed to be centered on me, not on the computer opponents.

Death by 1000 cuts. No 1 single killing flaw, but a bunch of tiny off-puting one. Save your 800 points.

Also, the AI in single player is crappy. First 2 matches are sleepwalks and then it just gets cheap. And how the hell did the unbalanced characters get past any sort of testing regiment?

Cheap ass gamers, skip this one.

Another problem with the game...

I was just in a match where everyone was down to their last life. Someone dropped and a new player filled their spot -- coming in with 4 lives.

I'm about to get my precious 360 back tomorrow (And a 2nd one that I'm not certain what to do with) and I managed to accumulate about 3000 ms points from the various promotions and was wondering what to blow em on. Last thing I bought was Doom.

Hmmm... now that I look, not much has been released in the past two months has it? I'm thinking Lumines, Galaga, and Small Arms?

Edit: Annnnd screw Small Arms. I was never impressed with it in the first place. Lumines, Lumines Pack, Galaga, and Contra it seems then...

I have that "6 degrees" achievement, too. Maybe it was some of you GAFers kicking my ass while I wondered where the hell my ass was.

I just finished the mission mode and
unlocked three of the four locked characters, but haven't tried them yet
.

I never expected much out of small arms (nor do i expect alot out of any arcade title). Perhaps this is why i enjoyed it so much?

Nah, i think it's because for a ten dollar online game - it's pretty good!

Same, it needs to be fixed.

Other than that I think it's quite enjoyable.

No idea if I will buy this yet, been playing the demo but will give it another play tonight before I decide, for 800 points im not sure if I would prefer this or doom xbla.

Never enjoyed Smash Brothers, and am REALLY not enjoying Small Arms. Oh well.

I'm sort of in the same boat, I only played SSB on my little cousins cube for a couple of hours but the game seemed rather boring to me (perhaps because he kicked my ass constantly and it wasn't fun to get owned so hard by a kid 20 years younger than me)
I only played Small Arms for 1/2 hour this morning before work but it seemed moderately fun though I'll agree with some of the design issues as mentioned above (easy to lose your character in the confusion, action should ALWAYS center on you when in single/online matches).

Anyway, nice to see them expand XBLA with something other than retro stuff. I need to spend some more time with small arms again tonight to see if I'll in fact buy it.

Only played the mission mode once and deleted it shortly after. It really doesn't hold a candle to SSB. Very mediocre game.

Its a very cool game, but like someone else said the design choices really hurt it. Balancing is all out of whack, and the control scheme is akin to playing Twister on your Xbox 360 controller. Actually landing a secondary attack in mid-air (while not flying off the map yourself) should be an achievement in itself.

wait, so a $10 game with all brand new characters doesn't hold up well to a $60 game with characters that had been around for ages?

will wonders never cease!

What's your point? It's poorly designed game.

I played through the mission mode and enjoyed it however, the train missions were abysmal. I couldn't figure out if I was supposed to defeat my enemies or get to the front of the train. After many attempts to get to the front of the train and getting destroyed by 3 enemies, I finally reached the front and realized that wasn't the end and I had to kill them. Why is it a scrolling map then if the point was simply to kill my enemies and not move forward. Other than that frustration and the touchy jumping (double jump, where art thou), you aren't there when I press jump+jump that's for sure, I managed to have fun. Easy achivement unlocks too.

Does anyone know if you can get MS Points credit for the free XBLA game (Uno) that comes with the Xbox Live Vision Camera? I had already purchased Uno and don't want to waste the free credit to find out....thanks! :D

As far as I know there is no way to do that. Nice people at GAF sometimes throw out their free uno code to the first PM. That being said PM me with the code if you are feeling generous! :) I don't have Uno. :(

Hmm. OK then. May this generosity be reflected in a Redskins 6 game-winning streak to defeat the Seahawks in the playoffs! (and re-injure Glasselbeck and Fraud Alexander!)

Edit: I'm at work now, so PM me your XBL gamertag and I'll msg you the code when I get home.

Hey, hey, easy with the Alexander talk. That b@st@rd's on my fantasy team. I need him to amount to something this year after McNabb the Monster went down.

Microsoft has announced that as part of the Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays program, it will offer a full-featured update to one of the most popular titles on the service – Texas Hold ‘em.

We’ve listened to our community and as a result, a host of features and improvements have been added to Texas Hold ‘em to speed up game-play, eliminate cheating and ensure proper competition. As a result, the online multi-player leaderboards will be reset to eliminate the inflated scores that currently appear. In a future update in early 2007, we’ll be adding Xbox Live Vision Camera support as well.

The update will be available for download on Xbox Live Arcade for Xbox 360 beginning Wednesday, November 29, after 0800 GMT (1:00 a.m. PST).

Below is a full list of the new features and changes in the Texas Hold ’em update:

Game-play has been sped up:
o Post the blind and play right away! – Players can now, if they wish, start playing immediately when joining a table by posting the big blind, rather than having to wait for the blind to come to them.
o New ‘Away’ mode – Players can now set their status to ‘Away’. Hands will be auto-folded and blinds auto-posted until the player returns.
o New ‘Auto-boot’ mode – Players who continuously let the timer expire (more than three times in a game) will be booted from the table
o Faster overall pacing – Timers and messaging durations have been adjusted to speed up game-play among experienced players, but still allow novice players plenty of time to play.
* Improved blind structure – Initial blinds, as well as blind increases, are now more proportional to table stakes, ensuring more meaningful increases during game-play.
* Matchmaking improvements – Players are no longer matched into games they cannot afford
* Improved interface controls – Improvements to controls, such as increasing/decreasing stake amounts
* Leaderboard display – A player’s full winnings and rank are now properly displayed
* Art and text improvements – Game art and spelling issues have been addressed
* Online exploits addressed – Certain known exploits that enabled cheating have been addressed. As a result, the online multi-player leaderboards will be reset to eliminate inflated scores as a result of these exploits.

lol

As soon as the Vision Camera update hits I'll probably log some serious hours into the game. It made Uno one of my most played XBLA games. This current patch is good news, just REALLY late.
