That's fucking bullshit. A patch??!? You've got to be kidding me. This is even worse than their Uno picture pack update.

XBLA could be so freakin' great but it seems whoever is in charge over there is asleep at the wheel. What a joke.

I was thinking Sonic would drop this week on XBLA.

Oh well, saves me money on Wednesday i guess

How long before VC catches up and passes? One month? At the most 2? I thought for sure they were delaying things so that they would release things 2 at a time to compete with the VC and PS1 stuff, but no.
Every week I feel like Charlie Brown and XBLA is Lucy holding the football, and every Wednesday I end up on my back looking up at the sky.

I'd give 'em a month.

What kills me is that MS keeps saying how succesful XBLA is and how developers are flocking to create content for it but it's been over a year now and we're still not seeing jack. Sure there's been a few bright points like Doom but it's been almost over shadowed by all the crap like Feeding Frenzy and Scramble.

MS needs to shit or get off the pot. This could be an incredible delivery system but they're seemingly content on just fucking it up.

Who cares? It's been on Steam for weeks now. XBLA is such a joke that even the developers can't wait for MS! :lol
I shall remain steadfast! I believe in Roboblitz for XBLA.

Friend picked it up for PC and the level editor is pretty sweet. Really digging the UE3 editor!

MS releases shit like frogger, naysayers are booed out of threads. MS releases a badly needed patch to a FREE GAME, people bitch like they just got pissed on.

You guys are weird.

Let's be clear.... I don't want XBLA to be VC. Don't compare the quantity of games. Nintendo can pump out ROMS like nobody's business. I don't want XBLA to be a huge port fest. I have no interest in playing SM64... again... now if it had updated graphics, some new game modes, and an achievement system, then maybe. The reason XBLA works is because they have a blend of titles, with original games, touched up classics and achievements.

That being said, they have still mismanaged the hell out of XBLA. I KNOW they are sitting on finished games... the certification process is a terrible mess IMO.

I paid for Texas Hold 'Em (I missed the initial free offer by a full 5 hours and everyone around me was in poker frenzy due to them getting it free so I was pressured) and I pay for the Gold service partially because I want to keep XBL going and doing well, since I don't agree that simply playing online warrants a monthly cost. I get to bitch.

I thought I knew what this meant, but apparently I have no idea. What is MS' "certification process" and why does it take weeks?

I think it's not just the certification process that's at fault for slow delivery, but one thing's for sure... putting this press release out was stupid. Patching is fine, but don't make it out to be THE BIG THING for XBLA this week. I'd rather have nothing than be shat on like this (hell, Japan doesn't even have Texas Hold'Em yet).

weeks? Try MONTHS. I don't know what every TCR is, but I know some of them are very assanine and developers never make it through the certification process first time through... you'd think with such a stringent process, the games wouldn't ever need patches.

I agree with these statements.. I like XBLA because it seems to have a mix of classic games and original IP (often indy. developed) games

Could you name a few? I'm really curious now.

Why do people feel the need to piss on classic games when bitching about XBLA?

You can bitch about shit like Feedint Frenzy all day long. THAT is a shit game.

Scramble is fair game too, that shit allways sucked.

Dont bitch about Dig Dug, Frogger, etc as proof that XBLA sucks. Its fine if you dont care for old games, but those are classic pure gameplay. You can say "I want some newer games" without trying to throw great games under the bus.

Also, continue to bitch abour card decks and patches as the Wed. That shit is weak sauce.

I agree, too. I like the mixture of Live Arcade games. I like the combination of retro arcade games AND new IP's. I think they compliment each other well.

Live Arcade has SO much potential but so far, I think that most people would agree that it's not living up to this potential right now. It really is a gold mine, but so far, not a lot of gold has been mined.

You'll just have to read some developer blogs. I know there were a lot of original IP developers who were getting very frustrated with the process. (see Garage Games w/ Marble Blast and Wahoo with Outpost Kaloki)

Now this is just nostalgia-fueled crazy talk. Feeding Frenzy is a far far better game than Frogger. Maybe not Dig Dug, but it's close.

So wait, how often does Sony's service update with new games? Have they started yet?

no idea, but a week+ after the PS3 launch and the same two games are available for download.

According to Jim Cordeira, fl0w releases Monday, then Go! Sudoku next Monday and Lemmings 2 the Monday after that. But I have no idea where he got the information from. The Sony site just lists December for all three releases. At any rate, I doubt Sony will be able to maintain 1 release a week for very long since they only have about 3-4 announced titles beyond the December releases (Gripshift DLX, Calling All Cars, Go! Swizzleblocks and Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy, I forget which).

BAD NEWS guys:

http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2006/11/28/arcade-heads-up.aspx

Not only does today's Texas Hold'em patch break the game so that it is impossible to play multiplayer games (100% confirmed), it apparently is deleting saves for other Live Arcade games (still unconfirmed, all mine work fine).

For all this talk of how tough it is to get a Arcade game through certification, how the flying **** did this patch get released? No wonder many people are losing confidence in the service.

hyp said:
who even plays that horrible texas holdem game these days anyways? thank god i got it for free.
It was the #10 Arcade game last week, according to MN, so some people are playing it online. Though, this new patch might change that. :lol
