Penny-Arcade Adventures is still coming I think, Microsoft hasn't exactly been on the ball when it comes to announcing releases in the past month. Also, the reason why Are You Samrter Then A Fifth Grader is 1200 point is due to the sad fact that this title is technically a full retail title, I believe other platforms are the Wii, PS2, DS and PC.

I thought MS understood that they needed to advertise their XBLA games.

I'm not saying they should organize a "Autumn of the XBLA" for Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader but they could at least properly announce the games coming in two days.

I honestly don't know what happened with this, till the beginning of this month the XBLA Games for the Week announcement was one of the most reliable news bits around.

So. What are the best releases for Arcade since Castle Crashers? I've been a bit outta the loop.

I'd put Age of Booty into that category. Great fun with friends.

Crazy Mouse... not so much.

Shitty... Very shitty week for XBLA... It's okay though because the king of XBLA games is finally released next Wednesday. Hopefully the netcode works fine so that it doesn't disappoint like the former shameful king.

800 points too... So good. :D

The scary thing is that this turd has a decent shot at making some good bank as it should never be forgotten that there is a rather sizable casual userbase and even more distressing since Make The Grade is at higher price point it can sell less and still come in the black.

yeah it's just like the DS & Wii licence shovelware stuff, trading on the name and raking people in but then how did Jeopardy do on PSN?

1200 is WAY to much tho from what expectations I have for that, but then who knows it could be a really polished full featured Buzz like product
NOT A CHANCE

I guess this is as good as a time as any other.

If you see a sign that says "say no to crack" and it reminds you to pull your jeans up, you might be a redneck.

If you ever cut your grass and found a car... if the UFO hotline limits you to three calls a day... if you ever made change in the offering plate... if you ever had to haul a can of paint to the top of a water tower to defend your sister's honor... you might be a redneck. :D

This game is made by Blitz (the guys who originally set up Codemasters), who do make retail games (and shitty Burger King games). It's got 6000 questions, has a TV game show license and a publisher.

The money for that has to come from somewhere. Hopefully it'll be polished and support the Scene It controllers. More importantly, I hope it's localised for the UK market. We don't have "5th graders" over here, as you know Gowans.

Regardless, until I try the demo on Wednesday I think it's too early to say it's overpriced when there are seriously crappy quiz show games retailing for £35 on Wii. But if it's shit, then I'll obviously fully agree.

How is this any different from Jeopardy PSN? It was also $15. If 5th Grader actually has Jeff Foxworthy then it at least has that over Jeopardy since Alex Trebek is not in that release.

This will sell to the casuals on the 360. The question is whether or not that market is large enough on either HD console to justify such projects. The hardcore (read GAF) will only shit on such titles.

EDIT - At least the XBLA release will have a fucking demo. I hate that demoless shit on PSN.

I don't think this'll be out in the UK, you know. Contrary to what the article says, I reckon it'll probably only be US and Canada.

Mindscape are publishing the DS version over here, so... :-/

The crapy box shot thread is waiting for this...

Having played the first version on the PC a short while ago, I can say that this iteration will most likely be bloody terrible, but yes, the game will be graced with Jeff Foxworthy.

Well, I'm sure we're in for another round of bitching and moaning but I don't think 1200 space bucks is too bad for the second episode if it's at least as long or longer than the first.

There are established reasons why both of these games are priced as they are, but I'm sure we'll have some moron post a knee-jerk thread asking "Will all XBLA games be $15 now!?"

As many of you know may know, it’s been over a year since James E. Silva won the XNA Dream Build Play competition with his game, The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai - a stylistic action platformer for XBLA which showcases non-stop action, deep gameplay, and a unique visual style. The story revolves around an undead samurai dishwasher in a dystopian universe on a quest for revenge against the evil cyborg army.

The wait is almost over and we’re proud to share with you some more details below, straight from James himself!

1) Killer Solos Minigame:
- After I got addicted to Guitar Hero and Rock Band, I ended up a bit curious to see what it would be like to implement my own rhythm minigame. The one in The Dishwasher proved to be such a hit that I kept it in there. You can beat Killer Solos to earn Psycho Picks, which you use to upgrade your stuff. You can play solos with either a gamepad or guitar peripheral (Rock Band and Guitar Hero work fine).

- You can also earn Psycho Picks in Time Attack challenges, where you have to kill a certain number of enemies in a short amount of time (duh).

2) Phantom Guitar:
- After finding the Amulet of Phantom Rock, you'll be able to have a friend plug in a guitar and help out as the Phantom Guitar. The Phantom Guitar player can lock onto enemies with the whammy bar, play notes and chords to deal damage, and do a death-dealing spinning attack by lifting the guitar. You can also make your own music this way, but I won't be surprised if the new Guitar Hero does a slightly better job in this department.

3) Massive Damage, Massive Combos
- The more damage you can deal before your combo meter runs out, the higher your score will be. Compete with the rest of the world in 50 Arcade Challenges, the Dish Challenge level, and the Tourney Solo Campaign. Hit 100 million in an arcade level, there's an achievement in it for you! Look for The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai in the months to come, exclusive for Xbox LIVE Arcade.

1200 pts? it will bomb hard, very hard.

One can only hope.

Man, I wish there was some kind of reverse NPD (reverse Major Nelson for Arcade titles) that showed us the bottom 10 selling games every month. I would LOVE to know they those are. The gloating when it was something like Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader, and the wailing and moaning when it was something genuinely good would be so delicious.

Portal size the XBLA exception, not new rule

Sadly, it seems ******* Publishing's avant-garde video game project "629 MB Picture Of A Guy Wearing A Funny Hat" will have to stay on the shelf. According to Microsoft, the scale-tipping 629 MB of Portal: Still Alive was not the new standard for XBLA publishers.

The company told us, "We have set file limits as a general guideline. An important part of Xbox LIVE Arcade is easy access and keeping file size down is a vital part of that. Equally important is offering titles with superior game play. We weigh both considerations on a case-by-case basis, and will make exceptions when it makes sense to ensure the best customer experience."

Hope you don't mind inferior quality pictures of guys in funny hats, because it seems that's what you're getting.

Things on Wheels: A look at the muscled Buster

Load Inc.'s upcoming Xbox Live Arcade racer of radio controlled proportions, Things on Wheels will be releasing to the Arcade in the not too distant future and, in preparation, every week they're revealing information about each lil' racer. They're actually using a series of collectible digital cards (trade 'em with your friends!) that detail car stats and information. To start off the RC car revealing fun, Load Inc. sent us the first card announcing the muscle car Buster which we're told has the "best handling of its class." High fives to that!

Check the gallery below for a few screenshots of Buster, view the nifty card and keep an eye out for more Things on Wheels vehicle reveals in the weeks to come. Vroom!

The problem with the PA: ep2 is that it's audience is going to be even more limited than the first one. It wasn't a bad game, and XBLA is RPG starved, so the price must scared away most of the potential buyers. They should really be pushing to get these eps down to $10 each.

October 31, 2008 - Scene It? Box Office Smash won't be the only game to offer up avatar support on November 19. Microsoft has announced that Uno, Bomberman Live, Hardwood Hearts and Hardwood Spades will get auto-updates to make them compatible with the avatar system. These games will offer players the option to import a personal avatar and see it perform custom animations through the game's lobbies and menus.

Also coming on November 19 will be a brand new Xbox Live Arcade title with fully playable in-game Avatars. Details on that will be coming in the weeks ahead.

If you watch the newest video on Major Nelson you can see at 2:10 that A Kingdom for Keflings will let you play as your avatar!

Quite, also in the video Small Arms is confirmed for Avatar Support.

Will the avatars in Small Arms actually be shooting guns at each other?
I thought Microsoft said avatars would not be used in that fashion...

Capcom explains why Talisman was binned

News by Rob Purchese

Capcom director of production Adam Boyes believes Xbox Live and PlayStation Network are "still in their infancy".

This was one of the reasons board game adaptation Talisman was canned at the beginning of October, he explained. Apparently the online services can't yet recreate the social atmosphere of friends sitting around a table and playing together in the same room.

"We looked at the other games on XBLA and PSN and realized that very few people were willing to sit and play a game for more than an hour. With a regular Talisman match coming in between three-to-five hours, this created an issue with how we would make the game fun and engaging for that whole time," Boyes told Giant Realm.

"This brings us one thing that we again failed to realize as PSN and XBLA were still in their infancy. Complex board games like Talisman live and die on the social interaction of people.

"...If the people in your match aren't going to use their headsets, the social aspect of a board game gets completely drained and becomes a slog as you could be sitting there for five minutes waiting for your next turn," he added.

Unfortunately, Boyes said Capcom found out "too late" this was the case, and that Talisman would eventually not deliver what fans of the game wanted.

Capcom US community chief Chris Kramer agrees, and admits on his blog that the company probably talked about the project too early.

But what about games such as Catan, Carcassone, Ticket to Ride and Lost Cities? Aren't they all board game adaptations that have worked on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network?

"Those games are lighter fare, and I do think that they lend themselves greatly to the XBLA and PSN user base," added Boyes. "If those games are light appetisers, Talisman would be a five-course meal.

"From the research we've done and looking at the games that succeed in the downloadable space, we found that people prefer the appetizers to hunkering down for a huge meal."

Boyes added: "I review hundreds of pitches and we will never close the door to developing a board game or card game that fits our user base."

I don't see why it couldn't be played in a similar way to Scrabulous. In turns rather than one extended period. I'd really appreciate such an approach as I like deeper games but rarely have the time to play them.

Street Fighter 2 comes to ... Pinball FX?

Nope, you didn't misread the title. Capcom's Street Fighter 2 will be making its way to Xbox Live Arcade game Pinball FX on November 12th ... in the form of a new pinball table.

The new Ryu and Ken themed table will head to the Marketplace to coincide with the release of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix in November and will include original music and sound effects from the Street Fighter franchise. It'll also feature a bunch of combos, tournaments and a final boss battle where you duke it out with M. Bison and totally geek out in a euphoric Street Fighter fit. Capcom has yet to announce pricing details.

From what I read, this sounds more like a separate release than an add-on table. It is scheduled to come out on 12 November, so maybe SFII will be out next week too? Neither is currently planned to be released in Japan :(

The screenshots certainly look like they are from Pinball FX.
