Trials HD takes series to "next dimension"
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/trials-hd-takes-series-to-next-dimension

RedLynx creative director Antti Ilvessuo reckons Trials HD will take the stunt-bike series to "the next dimension" when released on Xbox Live Arcade towards the end of July.

"The exact launch date of Trials HD hasn't been set but, being part of Summer of Arcade, it will be between mid-July and August," Ilvessuo told Eurogamer. "The price has not been set, either, but will follow the pricing of other [XBLA] games.

"But Trials HD is a really big package! Compared to Trials 2, everything has been taken to next dimension. There's a completely new game mode (skill games) and a level editor for creating and sharing tracks, which is exactly the same level editor we used - so we expect fantastic tracks to be created by players!"

Trials HD will also be nicer to newcomers. Ilvessuo explained that there will be an assortment of forgiving beginner bikes to choose from, and a selection of quick-play, beginner tracks to ride them on.

Conversely, those familiar with Trials - "the really skilled players" - will be given plenty of hardcore and infernal (the top tier) tracks, according to Ilvessuo - plus an array of bikes to master.

In addition, Trials HD has mini-games; "really wild", "crazy" and "over-the-top" mini-games, said Ilvessuo. "For example, one mini-game you have to haul a huge bomb as far as you can in one minute. Get hit too many times and bang!" he cackled.

The all-important scoreboards have become more all-important as well. Trials HD displays friends' times during the particular courses, so riders can see them as they leap through tires, up walls and through the air. Ilvessuo reckons this innovation ups the already intense competition even further.

"When this feature was implemented, all of us started hunting each other's Gamertags and it was a totally different and very competitive game after that," he said.

Trials HD will offer a trial version for those unsure, and one day might even span WiiWare and PlayStation Network.

"Let's see what the future brings," Ilvessuo added, "but we're very happy with Xbox 360 at the moment."

And, while RedLynx made its name through the success of Trials, Ilvessuo was keen to point out that the studio has plenty of ideas for other game styles.

"We have cool ideas and ambitious people. Let's hope we can create game that people want to play," he said.

Madballs in Babo: Invasion Hands-on
It's time to play with some balls.
by Daemon Hatfield

June 24, 2009 - If you are a child of the '80s you probably remember the Madballs gross-out toys that were popular for a time. The toys have recently been making a comeback at retail and will be starring in an Xbox Live Arcade game this summer. However, anyone looking for a shot of nostalgia when they boot up Madballs in Babo: Invasion might be a little confused. The game actually has little to do with the toys, and only includes two actual Madballs. Once that initial disorientation wears off, though, you'll find a slick arena shooter here with an extensive feature set for an XBLA game.

Babo: Invasion is a pseudo sequel to a free-to-play online game called BaboViolent 2, which features a bunch of balls with angry faces rolling around and shooting each other. Presumably, the Madballs license was added because of the characters' inherent similarity to the toys and to attach a recognizable brand name to the game. On offer in Babo: Invasion is an extensive campaign that can be played with up to four players cooperatively online, and multiplayer competitive modes for up to 16 players (also online). The competitive modes support Xbox Live Avatars and include an interesting build-your-own-map component.

The Avatar mode plays just like a regular Babo deathmatch, but instead of balls your Avatars' decapitated heads float around the map. It's a bit surprising Microsoft gave the go ahead for this mode considering the many rules in place for using Avatars . But the mode is more comical than violent, as the goo spatter usually emitted by the balls has been replaced with confetti. Whichever player is in the lead will slowly grow in size, as a visual cue for who needs to be taken down – just shoot the giant head!

But maybe the most intriguing aspect of Babo: Invasion is its subtitle's namesake: Invasion mode. This is another multiplayer event, but players can build their own unique map to play on before the game. If you've played Carcassonne on XBLA the editor will be familiar to you. Both teams make their own side of the map, and players take turns placing tiles one at a time. The process shouldn't take more than two or three minutes -- players have just a few seconds to place a tile before the game automatically sets it somewhere. Once the map is done, you jump right in and play some Domination or Capture the Flag on your very own turf. Babo: Invasion will include one jungle-themed tile set, and more themes will be made available as downloadable content. We love the idea of collaborating on a unique environment before a match.

Developer Play Brains describes Babo: Invasion as "casually hardcore," at the same time admitting this term sounds like empty marketing jargon. What it means is the game is easy to pick up and play but has plenty of depth to be found for players that want to invest the time. From what we've seen and played of the game so far, this is one to watch for. The Madballs tie-in may be a little misleading, but the game seems to be a lot of fun and that's all that really matters. Look for it this summer.

SoulCalibur came out roughly the same time as SoulCalibur IV, so it's not soo weird :)

Yes, it's only silly from SNK not to let enough time for each game to sell at its full potential. And to split the online players base between the games.

800 points is great. I'm glad I didn't buy the first one on XBLA and will buy this one.
It looks like it's running on the Open Warfare engine rather than the Armageddon one. I also haven't seen if they made any improvements to the rope physics. But at least the weapon list isn't gimped this time.

Well there are two on top Both for 31$

The first guy there, Actually has a deal on where you buy 2, 57$, buy 5, 135$. But I don't know anything about this guy yet. Which would explain why your not getting a response. I can't really give a response to something I don't know is legit or not yet.

The other got removed and suspended most likely since your technically not allowed to sell Digital Codes, Both of their sales were removed prior. But they relisted them, so I'm taking a guess they got suspended.

Excellent! Thank you, only one of the classifieds were showing up for me.

Now I've got enough points to buy some stuff I need leaderboard data for.

A substantial DLC was released for Yosumin Live today. It adds a new mode called "adventure mode" which basically adds 50% more content to the game and feels like a proper singleplayer mode compared to endless mode. It also adds 3 new achievements and leaderboards. And the price is hard to argue with, 80 points (aka 1 USD).

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/games/offers/0ccf0001-0000-4000-8000-00005841098b

There's also new DLC for Mega Man 9: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/games/offers/0ccf0001-0000-4000-8000-00005841092a - Protoman mode (wasn't this already released though?)

By the way, does anyone know of a good source of news and information about DLC? I dislike how it's generally ignored on news sites, so it's really hard to find out when DLC is released and find any details about them. My only source is manually checking the marketplace, which is a chore with all the Rock Band/Guitar Hero/Lips songs dominating the list.

The Megaman DLC was released before, but the game was just recently released in Japan (originally a WiiWare exclusive there) so that's why the date changed - they're going through the same DLC updates as it did before.

PLUG - Check out GamerBytes.com for the latest in XBLA DLC notices, as I also am the only one who cares about it :P

Yeah, gamerbytes is one of the news sites I check often. But well, DLC-wise it's not the best news source. There's some DLC news which is missed entirely, and there's no good info about it.

Most of the time I see DLC for games I just have to jump right into it and hope it's good. In the case of Yosumin Live I was lucky as the mode is one of the biggest DLC I've seen (there's probably a big chance the entire or most of the mode was developed before the game was released, but for 1 dollar I don't really care).

There's been some great DLC I would have missed if I hadn't been paying close attention to the marketplace updates. Like the minigames added to Chessmaster Live, those are surpsingly fun. And I've seen absolutely no one talk about it, and no site ever mention it.

One dollar? Fuck. I need to buy this (and by "this" I mean "Yosumin") now. :lol

"Probably" a big chance? The adventure mode was not only ported from the original DS version, but was actually included upfront in the PC version of Yosumin! Live that's sold on Steam.

I just tried the two for $57. I'll update as to what happens.

Oh whoops! I wasn't aware of that. Well, I'm really glad they decided to give it a low price then. I'm very tired of 10 dollar DLC where the content was designed and completed for the full game, but taken out just to be DLC.

Ive bought 5 4000 codes from the $31 dollar dude, and they all work. If I get more responses from the 2 for 57 that are positive, I'll give him a go.

You really need more points? :lol

Then again, seems like KOF98UM is coming out right after Worms Armageddon... More points can be a good thing at the rate this is going :lol

If people boast about how many points they got for free again I will stick my head through my monitor, pop out through theirs and chew one of their ears off.

Not really of course but I will wish I could :)

for free? I'll stick my head though a monitor. I got these for about 60% of retail!

I'm about to buy Feeding Frenzy 2. I have kept going back and playing the demo the last couple days and I really really like it. Big graphics improvement from the first one, and it seems like a long game with some fun achievements.

Any reason I shouldn't get it?

is Chessmaster Live worth getting?

there r too much spacebucks i dunno how to spend......
If you're getting it for multiplayer, don't bother. No one is playing anymore. On the other hand, it is a good version of chess with a neat "dark chess" variant and fun minigames. But I dunno if it can really be recommended with the multiplayer being dead.

I bought it and finished it, I really liked it along with the first one.

Here are some games I would recommend aside from the ones that usually get recommended (Peggle, N+, Braid, Pac-Man CE, Portal, Ikaruaga, Bionic Commando, etc.)

Alien Hominid HD
Catan
Ticket to Ride
Omega Five
Castle Crashers
Assault Heroes 1 and 2
Death Tank
GripShift
Galaga Legions
Lode Runner
A Kingdom for Kelflings
R-Type Dimensions
Age of Booty
Mutant Storm 1 and 2
Rez HD
Prince of Persia

Also CarneyVale Showtime from the Community Games

Where are all the awesome RPGs for arcade? I mean.. eh..

My absolute top pics for arcade are:

PacMan CE
Geometry Wars
Geometry Wars 2
(Above all awesome games when combined with psychadelics).
SF II HD

But elsewise, I'm not sure. Aside from what I'm playing now, Magic. I have a couple more, but nothing that stands out at all..

So.. eh..

You never come across any of those people boasting about how they nabbed 10,000 points in a coke give away or something?

I found the whole thing pretty disgusting.

EDIT : The codes that Shintoki posted a link to worked. Guy contacted me very quickly.

For your dudes' safety, you guys should probably stop buying codes from eBay that are $20 cheaper than they should be. Everything and everyone on this planet is and can be completely different from each other, but if there's one thing that every living thing in this world loves and cherishes, it's money.

Now unless this guy really doesn't give a damn about spending 50 bucks per code and selling them for 30 to be a nice guy, he's either stolen physical copies of these codes or digitally stolen them (with stolen credit cards; as discussed in this thread earlier).

I was getting ready to get Double Dragon, and it wasn't there. Did it get removed? I was looking foward to getting that for a while now.

Nice sentiment :)

I bought two and I'm going to stop there. I don't really care about paying normal price.. this was just a chance for me to grab some stuff from the catalog that I normally wouldn't have picked up.

I really can't remember, but these codes wouldn't work on a EU account, right?

And is it still possible to buy from this guy?

I hear you. :P

Check the last couple pages, I bought two 4000 points cards for 60 bucks total when that German dude was selling them.

But just like you, I stopped there. Just glad I have Point Lookout (Fallout 3) and am now considering getting Worms 2 next week what with the extra baggage called MS points. :D

Do you know if it's possible to pick up Originals from other countries? I'm tempted to get one of the Max Payne games having never played them.

No clue.

Although I know of a lot of US folks around here who have EU/JPN XBL accounts (and vise versa) to download the content using those dummy accounts, then just playing it on their main account.

No. Originals are region-protected downloads, like video content, so unless you can somehow tunnel your Xbox Live traffic to a geographically-appropriate proxy, you're screwed.

No 60Hz Halo CE for PAL users :(

Couldn't help but notice there are no recommendations for Puzzle Quest, I thought it was quite good. What's the GAF hivemind opinion on it?
