I can't see anyone ever doing the pay-to-play if they had free demos, given that most of the games are so simple that a content-limited demo wouldn't work and a time-limited demo basically amounts to a one credit play anyway :p

Back at CES they did. And I thought you could play any Game Room game once for free? I also thought that someone talked about a way to have access to any Game Room purchases by friends whether they're online or not? They need to clear this shit up with a concise FAQ.
 
Paying to try out the game room titles to me seems rather odd after so many free trials on live games, but what they have done so wrong is asking for 50p / 40msp per TRIAL, that value to me just seems way too high to try out old 80's arcade games, some of which can end in 20 seconds after starting. just don't support that kind of rape even if you have a few allards spare, go spend them on something better like a theme or profile pictures, I mean it.

At least it seems that if you own a game, invite a friend to your room and they can play the trial for free as much as they want (or have I read that part wrong?)

*edit* yes the first try of a game is free in the game room, after that you pay to play or buy it outright.

I also just realised that next month or two we are getting perfect dark and afterburner climax on xbla, 800 points each! like the most amazing month ever in the history of arcade.
 
Getting one trial/free credit is better than nothing.

Pay to play bombed on Trash Panic of PSN, I think they are asking far to much here.


And whats the deal with your friends games, you can play them all for free (free play?) online or not.


They do need to clear it up, seems so much there with leaderboards, unlocks, challenges, rewind, ranked, Awards etc.

Hopefully someone in the know can do a official thread with a mega op nearer release to.

I'm not mega interested but if done right could be a great little diversion for me.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1

Just a few weeks ago Sega surprised plenty of people when they announced Sonic 4, the first numbered title in the series since 1994's Sonic 3, would be coming to PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 in episodic form starting this summer. That announcement left plenty of questions in the minds of Sonic's many rabid fans. How much will it cost? How many levels will be included? What does he look like when he runs?

Some of those questions can now be answered thanks to an anonymous kind-hearted tipster who leaked several screenshots and an off-screen video of an alpha build to 1UP. The screens and video reveal that at least four zones will make it into episode 1. Those are Splash Hill Zone, Lost Labyrinth Zone, Casino Street Zone, Mad Gear Zone and a Special Stage. We'll definitely have to wait a little longer before we got our grubby hands on it for ourselves, but until then this should whet our appetite.
 
Cannot wait for Game Room - gonna be all over that. March in general is shaping up very nicely though; be nice if they did the offer in other countries too though as that would probably push me into trying scrap metal to complete the four.

I think it might need its own at 7 games a week tbh - especially with the extra items for each game (stuff flying around your arcade for day one purchases) and the Game Room challenges (that I can see being popular here)

There will be a Game Room thread, once the proper time arises, forum rules dictate that official threads are not allowed until two weeks before release.

Has anything been said of achievements for GR yet?
 
I don't think so. Everything that was purchased and thus issued a license to the user account it was linked to can still redownload them at any time...even with rights ownership changes. Upon purchase, it is a contract made to the user, after all, and stays intact regardless of what happens afterward...though I'm sure there are some specific limitations.

Pretty sure you can't buy Lost Cities any more, even if you already bought it. There was a kerfuffle about it on the Xbox.com forums.

I think the company went under, so the rights returned to the original holder or something.

That sucks, even though I have them all.

Perhaps WB Interactive Entertainment is renegotiating rights? And most of 'em will probably show up on Game Room, anyways- there needs to be a re-rating for Smash TV and UMK3 to happen, but I think that there will be a re-rating.

At E3 2009, Microsoft confessed to the secret Xbox 360 exclusive that (then newly acquired) BigPark would create: Joy Ride, a free-to-play, Avatar-based racing game. As you might have concluded after it missed its holiday 2009 launch window, Joy Ride has been delayed until later in 2010, though Microsoft wouldn't share anything more specific.

The full statement to Joystiq reads: "We're thrilled to have unveiled Joy Ride at E3 2009, which will deliver a revolutionary gaming experience to the Xbox 360 community and put your Avatar behind the wheel. We're committed to delivering the most robust experience to the community and are taking additional time to ensure we provide the best experience possible. We're looking forward to launching Joy Ride in 2010. Stay tuned!"

With a slew of upcoming media events leading up to this year's E3, we're sure to hear more about the title in the coming months and see how the extra development time has been put to use.

Yes; its got 1000 cheesemints available - and you get them for x amount of medals/trophies etc in the games combined. I believe it was mentioned in the GiantBomb Game Room inteview at X10

Mad Tracks is currently available on the XBLA for 800 MS Points and soon to be released as a boxed title on the Nintendo Wii in Europe.

Didn't know you had to have a cap on achievements aside from the total gamerscore, which the game falls under.

There is a cap on number of achievements as well, it is raised as of Perfect Dark to 20 for an arcade game.

Check out all the arcade games out there so far, they are all at 12 unless they have some dlc which adds more.

So does this mean 20 for every arcade game released from PD onwards or can people still use 12 only, any idea?

A shame there was not 20 for Shadow Complex, that game would be even better with few more :P.

Besides the fact that it was specifically advertised as the "first" (not "only") XBLA game with 20 achievements instead of 12, that also... wouldn't make any sense. :lol A higher limit is better for everyone and I assumed the only reason they didn't do it until now was for consistency (just like they kept waiting to increase the XBLA file size.) Once they've done it for one game there's no longer any reason to hold anyone else back from doing the same.

Also with XBLA games becoming much bigger in scale and gameplay lengh now, 12 achievements is a bit skimpy.
