oh but you have a release list! you asked, you got and yet you still scorn the xbla you viewed with beer goggles that one frat party that you got let into because you knew a cool friend.

MS delivered what you guys say you wanted. but we're still left at the altar.

xbla livejournal ftl :lol
Just to check it off:

1) We complain about not knowing what's coming up. Microsoft releases a list of the next ten games.

Result: GAF complains. Where's Sonic? WTF?!

2) We (okay, I) complain about the last-minute notice that we get on the Wednesday releases. Microsoft begins to announce the next game on Monday, a few days in advance.

Result: GAF complains about not having a release list for all of them.

3) GAF complains about too many ports, not enough original content. Microsoft includes many original or remade games in the next ten.

Result: GAF complains. Where the **** is my Worms? Or SotN? Or Sonic? Alien Homonid? XBLA sucks!

I'm not thrilled with the games so far this year, and I've been one of the most vocal critics of the Arcade content so far, but the trend is definately going in the right direction. Pretty much every complaint has been addressed to one degree or another. But GAF will be GAF. :lol

You know, I just want to throw this idea out there; float it, if you will.

Maybe part of the problem is that these are things that Microsoft should've done from day 1. Them screaming "Uncle!" when you shout loud enough isn't really what I'd call a "win."

Wow, I'm the only one in this entire thread who isn't interested AT ALL in SOTN. I don't understand why its even being considered for XBLA. Its not a multiplayer game. Its not exactly played for high score, and its going to look rather iffy since its a 320x200 lo-res game being blown-up to 720p. Plus, which one of y'all HAVEN'T played SOTN yet?

Ah well, I'll stop complaining. I've realized now that Xbox Live Arcade is a novelty, and I have too many other fun retail releases to get through to let Wednesdays get me down.

So let me get this straight. Making mistakes with how Arcade is handled at launch and improving it in response to customer feedback is pointless, because they ****ed up to begin with? Okay, good to know.

Now where the **** is my Mutant Storm Empire, arne?

It does indeed look to be improving now. Let's hope they can keep it up.

i want sotn for the following reasons:

1. i haven't played sotn in years
2. i can't find it on psone for cheap
3. even if i could, my ps2 doesn't read ps1 discs anymore and i don't feel like spending 129 bucks on a new ps2 or 500 bucks on a ps3
4. convenience of playing it on my 360 with a wireless controller without having a disc to put it. it's right on my console WOW!
5. achievements

for all those reasons and more you should invest in SOTN 360.

The day Space Giraffe launches will be the dawn of a new age. Girls will blossom into women, lima beans will taste like chocolate yet retain their healthy benefits, and all bitching about XBLA will cease.

Bitching feels good. Except when it comes to Sonic. MS has nothing to do with that; it's all Sega, so bitch at them. Sonic on XBLA is a great idea, so naturally Sega is opposed.

LOL AN ORIGINAL SEGA BASH you say, but goddamn it the truth doesn't have to be original, it just has to be true. So there.

XBLA would be a great medium to distribute some hentai games. I'd buy them.

paperboy will do you no good!
I had 6550 in my account for like 3 months. I bought a ton of points when I was loving the arcade and then had NOTHING to spend it on until recently. The Lumines deal got my spending going so that took a big chunk out. Then Heavy Weapon. Now the 3350 I have left is in a holding pattern for SOTN and for whichever new arcade game demo tickles my fancy.

You guys have will power . . . I loaded up a bunch of points and then end up spending them on random stuff. I laughed at those pathetic UNO decks, but if you actually play UNO, they are kinda cool because they all include new cards that alter gameplay. But then again, you don't really need to buy them . . . just play online matches with a host that bought them.

But I've picked up some dreck lately. Novadrome . . . too floaty, IMHO. Assault Heroes . . . actually Assault Heroes is pretty good.

And I'll pick up Paperboy . . . it is only 400 points and they don't support backwards compatibility for the Midway Arcade Treasure discs! <Insert conspiracy theory here.>

Willpower is pretty easy with the points if you remind yourself that you spent like £25 on them. I always do a quick work out of real money value before I buy a lot of online items.

But i'm one who is picky with whats brought with my money :D

Mistakes that shouldn't have been made to begin with? Mistakes that could've only possibly been made if the people running it were living in some kind of vacuum?

I'm not saying it's pointless, I'm saying it's telling that these things needed to be pointed out to them.

Umm...I hate to point this out, but if you've got the points sitting in your account...MS kinda already has your money, so threatening to not spend them is a bit of an idle threat.

That's true, but I won't need to top up more points untill I spent them.

I'm not lost on that. But I'm sure they want me to spend it to buy more and more points. And in the next couple of years, I'm sure I will.

But I'm not complaining about the games coming out anyways, I still need to get all the achievements for Heavy Weapon. I keep beating the first 11 stages and not getting the achievement. I don't use a nuke, I don't die... but I think my mistake was when I died, I died two more times, got the game over and started again. Maybe I HAVE to hit start and quit to have the game not register it.

but i don't get your point.

whatever mistakes you're talking about have been pointed out, the service and communication of the service is improving due to customer feedback, all areas of the team have learned from the past year. stumble, pick yourself up and learn from it. what do you want them to do now? we can't time travel.

Totally agree. Out of everything people could be begging for for XBLA, I have no clue why SOTN is one of the top choices.

And, to be honest, now that Ms. Pac-man is out and it totally sucks, I don't so much care about what comes next on the XBLA anymore. I'd rather have fun retro games like Tapper and Paperboy than some of the Windows shareware-level crap we've had come before, but it will be nice when stuff like Castle Crashers and Worms hit.

xsarien never makes mistakes. It's rather hard to live up to that.

phantom dust is a steal for $4.99!

also, you guys HONESTLY can't understand why people want SOTN? just because you've played it a million times and already have a copy doesn't mean everyone on xbl does :D

MS already has your cash if you have points sitting in your account. They don't care how long it takes you to spend it.

No, that's exactly what you DON'T do. You need to die and restart the level that way for it to work.

Cheaters just have to clear stage 12 as well. (Yes, doing the death trick is cheating! You're supposed to do it in one go! :D)

I don't really care about it either, I have it for the PSX and played through it multiple times and sort of dread having to go through it again. All I care about at this point is when Worms and Castle Crashers are released.

And the lack of releases is something I would expect from Nintendo, but Nintendo has been semi on the ball. Or at least it seems since I have been buying more Wii points then XBLA points.

I've been trying to break the speedrun record, and I'm only off by about 5 minutes... it'd be cool to break it and have it show on the xbla scoreboard.

I keep hearing about all these cool games coming out for XBLA, but then we get games like Paperboy. I guess I should just stop hoping and be pleasantly surprised when the good games are actually released.

"HEY ARNE MCFLY! DIDN'T WE TELL YOU TO STOP RELEASING OLD GAMES ON XBLA? NOW WE'RE GETTING PAPERBOY!? SO WHY DON'T YOU MAKE LIKE A NEW XBLA GAME AND GET DELAYED"

I really don't think it's that difficult to figure out. They just need balance. Why two old games in a row? That makes people who want new stuff annoyed. They need to rotate this stuff out. Old arcade game, new title, old PSX game, new title, old arcade game, new title, etc. Even stuff like MK3 was probably "new enough" to keep that group content. When they skip entire weeks and then bookend it with two new games or two old games they are just going a step further to create discontent among one group or the other.

OOOHHH, okay I didn't do stage 12, thanks.

And yeah I know I'm a cheater. The only time I died is when I swear a bomber dropped 2 bombs in succession.

Yes, I'm sure it's the anonymity of the internet that's the driving force behind these complaints... no one would be brave enough to bitch otherwise...

speculawyer is part of the problem. Let's get him a straitjacket or some electroshock therapy or something... :)

As cynical as it is, I can see XBLA droughts as part of the plan -- you've got points sitting there, and they're easy to spend. "Well, it's still not Castle Crashers this week, why don't I try out Novadrome?" Because when the stuff that's more universally appealing comes out, people are gonna buy points to get it if they've already emptied out their accounts.

I would like to reiterate that Live Arcade is a great service, and I think some really entertaining titles have been released for it (and some stuff in the pipe looks amazing).

And maybe I've gone a little stir crazy, given that I've been reduced to trawling around Major Nelson of late to see if the people here are the only ones frustrated (we're not, duh), but one guy there made a good point. With three classic games and Heavy Weapon, even though it's an entirely different service (and way easier to operate), Virtual Console's "classic games" released this year put the Xbox trio to shame.

I have high hopes for next week. I don't even care if it's a game I want (Catan, Alien Hominid or Worms would be great). I'll just be excited to see something semi-original released. I think I'll go insane if it's a week off (remembering this line from the upcoming XBLA titles PR: "Although a game may not be launched every week, every Wednesday is an opportunity to share in the Xbox Live Arcade experience with friends and family."

Hey, I don't regret Assault Heroes . . . but Novadrome was lame . . . I think I was drunk when I pulled the trigger on that one. :lol

That is what is going to happen and you know it. "Although a game may not be launched every week, every Wednesday is an opportunity to share in the Xbox Live Arcade experience with friends and family . . . just log onto NeoGAF and start bitchin'!"

Grrr now I'm angry . . . my 1 1/2 year old daughter is now in a mode of going to every cabinet & drawer and pulling stuff out.

She just pulled out a still sealed xbox copy of Midware Arcade Treasures . . .

The full list of games included in Midway Arcade Treasures, in alphabetical order: 720, Blaster, , Bubbles, Defender, Defender II (Stargate), Gauntlet, Joust, Joust 2, Klax, Marble Madness, Paperboy, Rampage, Rampart, Roadblasters, Robotron 2084, Satan's Hollow, Sinistar, Smash TV, Splat! (unreleased), Spy Hunter, Super Sprint, Root Beer Tapper, Toobin', and Vindicators.

And did I mention that it does not run in BC mode? I guess keeping it in hopes of having it eventually work in BC mode is pointless. :-(

Umm...it's not exactly hidden knowledge that many of these games are available in compilations. But since many compilations do work, including the Namco Museum, I have hopes that at least MAC will eventually work. I doubt MAC3 ever will though. The fact of the matter is that even if you can get Ms Pac-Man, Galaga, Pac-Man, and 12 others for 20 bucks, many people are still buying those individually for five bones. The reality is that these companies have nothing to fear from making these compilations BC if they can.

For further reference, see Genesis VC sales on the Wii - several of those titles are on the Sonic Mega Collection, which is fully BC on the Wii. Yet, with even fewer additions than XBLA titles...they sell.

Not true, I own a Gamecube, a Game Gear and an SMS. Although I'll chalk the latter two up to youthful indiscretions.
