I think its got some fun gimmicky little things going for it but the racing is just not fun at all. The sense of speed doesnt exist at all. I was expecting this to be one of those games where your kind of in a controller crash the whole time - racing around the tracks, barely hangin on...
Guess I should have checked it out proper before I blended my points.
We're all fans of the original Amiga game at IGN, so when we took to the field with the most recent build of Sensible Soccer World of Soccer we were happy to see not much has changed since the original games was released. While football videogame development has progressed in leaps and bounds in the last decade or so, Codemasters has rather, ahem, sensibly ensured the gameplay in this XBLA version of the series is exactly the same as it was in the '90s. Seriously, it was like we'd travelled back in time.
In fact it's refreshing to see Codemasters hasn't tried to reinvent the Sensi formula for its Xbox Live Arcade debut. To play the game you use only the D-pad or analogue stick to control your player and the A button to pass, shoot and tackle. Despite the stripped down control system, however, Sensi is still tactically rather deep. Anyone can pick up the pad and start shooting for goal but only those who put the time in to master the controls will be able to whip balls across the penalty box, pull of a diving header or execute defence-splitting runs.
In addition, Sensi on XBLA includes the team management features that played such a big in the classic Amiga and PC versions. Players can therefore create their own custom teams, change the names of players and create and save favourite team formations, which means you can set up a team prior to kick off quickly and easily, without wading through a load of menu screens.
That pretty much sums up Sensi on XBLA. Nothing much has changed over the past decade or so, but that's why we're excited about SWOS. From the matches we've played the gameplay is still as tight and fun as it was in the '90s, meaning it's just as enjoyable as it was back then. It may not compare to FIFA or Pro Evo in terms of presentation, but for a simple kickabout they don't come much better than this. We'll bring you a proper review before Sensi kicks off on Xbox Live Arcade in July.
Shard said:IGN XBOX 360 has a new hands-on preview of Sensible World of Soccer, a title that everybody seems to have forgotten about.

Wario64 said:Holy crap, Sensible Soccer is coming to XBLA? Kick ass!
Burai said:It's best to forget about Xbox Live Arcade games because they take so long to be released. SWOS was first announced at the end of June 2006 and first screens were shown in September.
I'm expecting Prince of Persia Classic in 2009.
There's also a segment of Bomberman Live on the latest On the Spot:Shard said:Right, I got a couple of updates for y'all. First up, Hudson has up their Bomberman LIVE page which seems to be offering weekly information updates until I assume it is released. FOr this week's update is called Levels and Gimmicks.

And if you don't find an original XBLA title modeled after Forgotten Worlds and filled with pretty graphics and more action than most retail games exciting, I'm not even sure what you're doing in the XBLA thread. This stuff is what I signed up for, anyway.
