Quite, quite, though the lack of an update today does concern me a little what with E3 about to start and Microsoft could do the old surprise game at the conference. The only thing that is really missing is Microsoft dropping hints ahead of time but that maybe due to the staff being busy with E3 proceedings.

Someone at HBO pointed out a few days ago an icon on the MS invite that looks a lot (but not identical) to the Marathon symbol, FWIW. Could be a hint, or a coincidence.

Yeah, come on. The timing of the conference is too perfect not to announce the game there.

Hopefully it's something worth the spotlight.

Yea, Marathon, specifically Marathon: Durandal, is at the top of my list of XBLA E3 surprise releases.

Hmmm, maybe Puzzle Fighter this week? Sounds like a good game to release for E3. It's consistent with a July release too

What was last year's E3 release?

Puzzle Fighter would be the bomb for sure. I can't wait for that game.

Looking at the official dates I believe the release that dropped at the last E3 was UNO.

If that is the case, Puzzle Fighter could be a possibility. Uno was/is still huge for XBLA. I think Puzzle Fighter will be huge as well. I hope we get it this week!

Am I the only one who doesn't give a damn about Marathon? I mean, you can get the updated versions for free off of Bungie's website for any platform, and pretty much any computer can play them.

Yeah, Uno was E3 last year and DOOM at X06. However, Microsoft put out a PR about Uno a week in advance so we knew it was coming DOOM was a surprise announced during the X06 press conference. I do think we'll see a new game announced/released tomorrow.

I don't want to knock on Marathon, but I'm dying for SPF and Bomberman. Two of my most anticipated titles this year, period.

Some more update for y'all.

http://www.xblarcade.com/node/821

XBLArcade/Xbox DOmain has an update concerning the upcoming XBLA and WiiWare title (Yes, you read that right) Butterfly Garden which according to the links is dropping sometime in the Spring of 2008.

http://www.xblarcade.com/node/823

On the rumor front a new game gets added to the speculation list, Super Contra, this info comes from Dustin Berg of Xbox360Fanboy and really originates from a site called the Exophase Forum. This is all based on the fact that Super Contra is sitting on the Partnernet right now, there are even pictures located at http://forums.exophase.com/showpost.php?p=13212&postcount=1 and those were taken by a user by the name of MarkMan from High-Score. Anyway, I recommend clicking the first link in order to understand why SUper Contra may NOT be this week's release.

Hell, Microsoft did this thing last month Pac-Man Championship Edition, hyped up a secret game but didn't tell us what it was. That is what is missing from the pattern this time around.

When do the games usually appear on XBL? Late-night Monday?

SPF XBLA has a 4-player mode?

Just a guess, but I would think this means a Quarter Match mode similar to Hyper Fighting. You enter a room where four people can play, but only two play at a time while the other two wait in line.

I've been waiting for SPF for years and I'm stuck in LA all month w/o my 360. -_-

I'd love it if they ported 3D Ultra Cool Pool for XBLA.

With all the Sierra games announced today it reminded me of the above game so I decided to google it and XBLA and the first result was the above quote which was a question I asked nearly 2 years ago. :D

Anyway I hope this title gets consideration. A new dynamic 3d engine would be nice and a couple of new modes and the game would be good to go.

Pool on XBLA can be done so much better than the current offering imo.

That would be a pretty crappy reason why you would guess it to release this week, since it's been sitting on PN for several months now. Literally and seriously.

The certification team is so awesome.

I know this, Mr. Duality knew this, the OP over at Exophase did not know this, I would put this at vauge rumor at best personally.

So I'm guessing the XBLA release for tommorow will be announced tonight so it's got to be a pretty major title, Marathon? That Ubisoft mech game what's it called?

Nice. Thanks to achievements, This'll be like the 5th time I've bought Sonic. Will the SEGA Classics series have "enhanced modes" at all?

I'm really curious about what tomorrow's release will be also...

E3 is completely going to overshadow XBLA, but for short-term gaming fun over my vacation, it's far more important to me whether we get SPF or Bomberman tomorrow or next week, although I'm starting to feel that tomorrow is very unlikely.

Do not worry, this thread shall stand and last long after the E3 comes and goes, I shall see that it does not fall into neglect.

Me needy Bomberman. July is almost half over and no sign of Bomberman. Don't make me go two months of ads in magazines for Bomberman Live with no game MS.

Right, this just popped up on the Joystick, since that site is banned and all, I'll just have to do the full C & P.

Freeverse Software changes the name, to announce new products this week

Freeverse, the minds behind Totemball and the seldom mentioned Spyglass Board Games, has dropped the word "software" from their company name. Citing a diversification of their line-up including Mac utilities and the aforementioned Xbox Live Arcade titles, Freeverse is definitely pushing well beyond their Mac gaming roots.

Freeverse president Ian Lynch Smith explains, "As we've expanded into other realms such as console game development, the 'Software' part of our name has been feeling a little antiquated." With a launch of a new website forth coming, Freeverse also plans to announce new products this week.

As a prominent developer of original titles for the Mac, Freeverse has plenty of properties to bring to the console space.

Well, let me recap what was shown at the Microsoft Conference.
Bomberman Live!
Undertow
Sonic the Hedgehog
WarWorld
Sensible World of Soccer
Hexic 2
Wing commander: Arena
Every Extend Extra Extreme
Feeding Frenzy 2: Shipwreck Showdown
Track & Field
Golden Axe
Spyglass Board Games
Space Giraffe
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Word Puzzle
Marathon: Durandal
Poker Smash
Switchball
Tetris Splash
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Boku Sudoku

Also, for those who don't know Sonic the Hedgehog and Golden Axe are this weeks XBLA games at the price of 400 MS Points each and should be available now.

Anyway, did some snooping on the main Xbox.com site and for the following new XBLA pages.

Undertow

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/s/sonicxboxlivearcade/default.htm
Sonic the Hedgehog

Marathon: Durandai (Developer is listed as Freeverse, that news bit was rather fortuitous)

Hexic 2
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/h/hexic2xboxlivearcade/default.htm

Golden Axe

Another update for everybody.

http://www.xboxic.com/news/3210
Undertow has a new up, I don't think there is any sound, but damn does trhat game look beautiful.

http://www.gamingtalkhq.com/gamingtalkhq-home/e3-07-xbla-summer-lineup.html

According to this bit of PR, the XBLA will allegedly see the following titles.

• “Bomberman Live.” A bomb-dropping action title featuring eight person multiplayer from Hudson Entertainment
• “Golden Axe.” The classic action-adventure game with two-person multiplayer from SEGA, available for download now from Xbox LIVE Arcade*
• “Hexic® 2.” Experience head-to-head competition in this action puzzler sequel to “Hexic HD” from Carbonated Games
• “Marathon: Durandal.” The first-person shooter that was the precursor to “Halo” from Freeverse*
• “Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords.” An engaging action RPG puzzle game from D3Publisher of America.
• “Sonic The Hedgehog.” The classic platform game updated in HD from SEGA, available for download now from Xbox LIVE Arcade
• “Undertow.” An underwater shooter with multiplayer for up to 16 people from Chair Entertainment Group

Alright, heres some additional info for the SEGA nerds out there:

A) Golden Axe is the arcade version of Golden Axe, NOT the Genesis version, hooray! Better sound, better graphics, and the weird-arse ending sequence. I believe it's just the regular 'world' version of the game - there is a rare Japanese version which contains some additional blood and gore bits that was only found recently.

B) Sonic is entirely emulated - you do not get the introduction screen, you start straight from Green Hill Zone [Due to Not allowing cheats for the Leaderboards]. It's the original American Sonic 1 version - meaning no Japanese paralax clouds in GHZ, and no fix for the spike 'problem', where you are not invunerable for a few seconds.

Still, it's 400 points each. That's a BARGIN, really. If you're going to whinge about the moving clouds in a Sonic game, you should quit gaming now :)

Disappointing that it's Sonic and GA, but Sonic looks much better than it has any right to.

GA seems like maybe, possibly, it has a slim chance of being fun with friends. Maybe.

Er, nevermind... reading ftw >_<

I'm downloading trial versions of both Golden Axe and Sonic right now. I'm so glad trial versions are available. They kept me from buying some real dogs. I have the feeling I'll be getting the full version of Sonic though.

Man if I buy this version of Sonic I am going to punch myself. I own it on like 3 different systems and PC. It is so tempting though, hi-def and surround sound. *downloads demo*

I was expecting online co-op/achievements/leaderboards for SOR2, but I was not expecting the 400 pt price. Thanks, Sega! Hopefully, it releases soon.

I want to call the Sega Vintage Collection the highest quality retro ports on this new generation of systems, but is the Sonic "jump" sound effect messed up to you guys? Did it always sound just like that?

I forgot how much Sonic 1 rocks. One of the most memorable soundtracks IMO.

This took a long time to release but it was worth it. Seems to be a very nice port, slick interface and stuff.
