Except that the Exit pack is free.

I'm not saying it makes sense, but it's certainly not a financially motived move.

Possibility exists that it simply has no new assets though, right? Might just be a small amount of data to remix the levels...

Um, the packs are free.

Did no one here play Exit on PSP? They did the exact same thing on the PSP. 100 additional levels released for free as downloads, staggered weeks after the game's release. I'm guessing they want to try to extend the game life by offering the other levels in the future so you can go back and play it.

And keys are 108 KB. I doubt the levels are that big in size anyway.

Wasnt that impressed with the Arkadian Warriors thing...

I got 800pts to burn thouhg. Bought a card and used half on the Crackdown pack and half still to go.

Poker smash next week or no?

I would guess they did it so they can get press a couple times after the game has released. Everytime they put a download key up, there is another round of press which means more attention which hopefully leads to more sales.

You don't pay a dime for the stage packs, thats the whole point...Why even have them locked until they drop these?

Man, Exit is not the kind of game you can not play for a few weeks then come back to. I suck ass now.

Thats something I am enjoying about Exit. I am on Situation 3 stages now and it's cool to play a couple here and there every week or so sporadically when I am in the mood. Some are particularly tricky and it helps to come back with a fresh head later. :)

I guess I should go play through earlier situations to get myself back into it.

Played Arcadian Warriors for a bit last night.

The good:

Interesting graphic style
Rockin' framerate
scratches the "turning over rocks to find shiny things" itch

The bad:
The controls were lackluster, bad kinesthetics (the sword swinging feel was terrible in particular)
UI feels really unpolished
Only 2 players. :(

Great for $10, but doesn't quite get me there.

I'm hoping that Rocketmen will scratch some of those itches a bit more (though more of a shmup, not a hack & slash). Saw this at Capcom's blog this morning:

Yesterday I decided to give the Switchball trial a whirl. Wow. Luckily I had just bought some points, had to own it immediately. Looks stunning too.

One thing that REALLY pisses me off about Arkadian is the lack of loot or even gold for crissakes when you hit barrels or pots.

WTF?

No kidding. I thought the same; where the hell is the loot? You don't start getting "a lot" (meaning 2-3 items per quest) of loot until the end of the game. And a treasure room yields a massive ~300 gold? What the fuck?

The combat sucks, the exploring is boring and there is no loot. It's like the definition of epic fail.

Just don't expect to encounter many people online (co-op and races) and don't try to access the leaderboards. They're completely broken.

Damn. There goes my interest.

They need to pull it off Live and re-release it with some changes.

They should just port Alien Swarm. It's probably the best indie isometric action game I've ever played. It's right up there with Crusader: No Remorse.

I think a whole lot more indie stuff should be on XBLA already. Some of these companies are really missing the boat.

I just wish some of these indie devs would zoom in a little. Its like everyone games has to be from a perspective where everything looks so tiny on screen.

Developing for XBLA isn't cheap, and publishers won't touch most indy stuff with a 100ft pole.... so they aren't missing it on purpose.

There is more indie stuff coming in 2008 then I think most are aware of.

Anyway, I have bad news to report, I am now reasonable sure what the other game coming out this Wednesday is, and it is not good times, it is bad times.

Who cares? No one will have time to play it with SWOS coming out.

looks like a bad Smash Brothers clone :(

Wish we could get Poker Smash instead.

It sounds even worse, for the text I have seen this game is like a truly shitty mix of a bad Smash Brothers clone and a Rare Scavenger Hunt platformer.

Not at 172kb dude.

Thats just a key.

Maybe it was to get people to complete the other stuff first but still, it was stupid.

Keys are 108KB as has been previously stated. Level data for EXIT is likely absurdly small (hex values to mark the location of any given objects, and the level layout) The assets are already there in the main game, the new levels dont have new assets.

Exit is a great game btw.

Exactly. Wii Ware will be the most viable place for indie stuff this gen.

But Map Pack 1 was 10-20 megs.

anybody know when the next wave of platinum hits is coming to XBLA ? ?? I love price cuts. Bought Zuma last night... looking for more good 400 pt games.

I'm enjoying Marble Blast Ultra a hell of a lot. I'm almost done. There seem to be quite a few people playing online too.

I'd definitely be up for grabbing Cloning Clyde, DOOM, POP Classic, or Eets for 400. I'd like to know what they're doing with Xbox Originals now.. haven't heard a peep since.

I like XBOX Originals as well. I just dont get the lack of new news on them and why they released Fable instead of Fable: LC. Please tell me they dont plan to release LC as DLC. :lol

anyone heard anything about a TCG coming to XBLA?
I'd love a Magic/Heca****/VS/Yu-gi-oh type game to play with some friends when not in the mood for a twitch fest.
Someone out there must be thinking of porting the PSP or DS version of some of these games over after how well Puzzlequest has done.

Buy Eets: Chowdown and Prince of Persia: Classic now. They're worth the 800 MS Points.

Goddamn it. I was having so much fun with Switchball, until I hit a brick wall yesterday. There's this section in level 4-5 where there are 4 timed switches and you have to use magnets to get to the other side. Well yesterday I spent about an hour just trying to get over that section. I felt like a fucking lab rat. I tried pressing a couple of the switches, pressing them in reverse order, nothing worked. Then I watched a video on youtube, but that guy used the pc version which had some shortcuts the 360 lacked, in this case magnetising from the starting platform onward.

Is there anyone who knows how to get past this part? It's driving me insane. Can't count how many times I punched a pillow

And just how much gold do you think that a treasure room, that's clearly marked on the map, should have?
Do you realize how much items cost? A decent weapon is 90k. 300 gold is chump change and makes you not even give a shit about finding a treasure room, because a couple of chests in a normal room will yield just as much. Finding secrets loses its entire point. There isn't a single room in which you can find a weapon or anything either.

If the buttons were numbered 1-4, 1 being the closest to the pipe you drop out of, you press them in the order of 3-4-2-1.

Err, I think. It's been a while. It's some combination of pressing the furthest two and then the closest two anyway. Just pan the camera around and look at the magnets; what you want is to activate them so that they turn off in order from right to left so that once one turns off, you'll be sucked towards the next one and finally dropped into the open pipe.

Thanks, I feel like such an idiot now. I never thought about staying in one place, just trying to get to one magnet to another, but that way I only stuck to the parts that you don't want to stick to. Still a very confusing puzzle though, glad I got past it

PC, sorry.

Whats the last PC game that broke a million? Half-life 2?

PC gaming is dying, Warcraft is the only thing to do 2m+ in nearly three years on the PC as near as i can tell. Developing for the PC is all good and well but 80% or more of the people who play PC games pirate 100% of their stuff.

Wii Ware is by far the most viable platform for small developers on consoles, and judging by the lack of non free indie content that sells well on PC, id say its the most viable period.

yeah but unless we stop using pcs, theyll always be games for them.

We see it starting even now, consoles are the lead development platform, the PC versions are just ports. COD4 will sell the most by FAR on the 360, more than PS3 and PC combined even, this will make Activision think twice about its PC support (im going to bet the PC version sells even less than the PS3 version).

UT3 will sell the most by far on 360 as well. I cant think of any upcoming PC exclusive that will sell enough to cover the development cost, let alone enough to make the focus shift back towards PC gaming. For less than the cost of a high end GPU you can buy a console that can play 99% of the same games (MMO and RTS notwithstanding, and good games in those genres are few and far between anyway, and a few are on 360 as well) with graphics that are as good or close enough. This isnt like last gen where the consoles became horribly outclassed pretty early on in terms of graphics. Crysis does it, but 1. it sold like crap and 2. itll be three years before you can play it at 30fps with 4xAA at 1080p on a single card solution costing under $400.

As for XBLA, Arkadian Warriors is fun, but far too short and shallow. Diablo 2 should come to XBLA, complete with voice chat for online, id buy that in a second.

I didnt say they had to be blockbuster dude, as long as the personal computer exists, there will ALWAYS be games for it.

I get the current consoles and also keep my pc gaming level, but sometimes pc is needed to fix blunders like oblivion as seen Here when a closed console lets me do ALL THAT (UT3 is a start, but that again needs a PC for the mods creation, I think)

:D

and imo Ill still be replaying games like xcom and fallout long after "Flavor of the Month FPS" and that goes for FPS on both consoles and pcs, they are seriously getting old to me.

online fps games I own/played alot over the past 8 years

quake 3, ut99 ,cs,bf1942 ,planetside, desert combat , tfc, naturtal selection, ut2k3, ut2k4, bf2, doom3, hl2, cs:s, quake 4, cod3 (multi), tf2, cod4

im fps'sd out......

edit: and the last pc that broke a Million was The Witcher which has been out for a month or so

http://www.n4g.com/News-81964.aspx

also: sims series

as for xbla: I swear puzzle quests AI hacks. I dont care what the devs or source code says

Holy shit clock in another hour for 4-6 in Switchball alone. This game goes from really easy to insane in 2 stages. It's not just the levels in itself, but the constant camera nurturing you need to do. In 4-6 for example, the camera is never where I want it to be, and most of the time moving platforms even obstruct the view, just as your balancing on some planks. Infuriating. I'm gonna give this game a good long break after I beat it
