Damn thing keeps making cracking noises through the speakers and the games freeze after 15 minutes from power on...and I was getting set to enjoy Starfox and Turok too ;_;
Never having a problem with my N64, I just bought a used copy and I got the same problems. I just took a q-tip and swabbed the connectors on the game which seemed to remove alot of black residue. Game works flawlessly now.

I ultimately had to tear a paper plate in half and scrape it along the inside of the console's connectors, since I had nothing else that could reach inside. Got a lot of crud out that way.
What DO people do with their machines when they sell them? Dump them in a mud pit?
Well living in Australia the prices may be a bit different but at my local cash converters which is a chain of pawn shops not many N64 games are above $10-15 AUD around $7+ US. Maybe you should try your countries equivalent.
Dont expect game it always come boxed and manualed but you can get some good deals, I pop in regally to see what new NES games have come in.
