(OH SHIZNITS) Devil May Cry 4 confirmed multiplatform PS3/360/PC

I'm sure MS had a contract for Jade Empire too, but now 2kgames are publishing it on PC. Though clearly Gears would be a lot closer to their chest. Contracts aren't unwavering and unending, I personally don't believe Epic would tie their IP into an perpetual contract with MS

And they won't do it for some 1 reason...they have long-term plans for it. The very fact Epic has trademarks beyond games for toys, clothing, even coin-ops games, you name it for GOW say it.

If anything, I could see Epic wanting to build GOW as a second pillar next to Unreal and they're just using MS to achieve this. Overall this why devs like Id, Valve, Epic and Bioware have it better than most third-party devs out there...they can do whatever they want their respective IP's and at the expense of people whether its MS, Sony, Nintendo or whoever...just look at at Valve did to Sierra and Epic to Atari

How would porting to PS3 detract from these long goals?

Regardless, it's pretty clear with each passing day that Sony has made too many mistakes. There is no way they could recover at this point. It's over.

DMC4 goes mulitplatform and it's over for Sony? Wow people sure get overly dramatic around here.

In NA it sure looks bad. By the time Sony gets their act together, Wii and X360 will have taken most of the market and mindshare. Of course, Sony could drop the price of the system to $400 tomorrow, start enjoying healthy third party sales starting in March, and stop with the constant PR gaffes today. Anything's possible, just not particularly plausible given how things have unfolded so far.

hilarity evolved.

Took a while, :o

Anyway, with this great news, and the PS3 STILL available to pre-order at game.co.uk, play, amazon UK et al, I have a feeling this isn't going to be a good week for Sony, at all.

Wow, I'm late to this thread.

Anyway: It was almost inevitable, but still I couldn't believe it. Now even MGS doesn't seem like a sure exclusive anymore.
W-O-W

Sorry man but I just don't see how it's supposed to be over for Sony. They're about to launch in Europe, they still have great games coming, Blu-ray is doing well, people are just overreacting here. People seem to forget that Sony doesn't have to dominate the market for the playstation business to be profitable.

People expecting Sony to die are just going to be dissapointed.

What's "the market"?

100 million World wide? Maybe a bit more with PS3s multi-functionality and Wiis "new gamers"

And how much do you consider "most of the market"?

You're second and third line are GAF over reaction personified.

This topic is insanely huge. Especially for something anyone could have predicted months ago (Capcom USA straight-up said they wanted this 6 months ago).

Can't wait to see what PA comes up with.

GAF has let me down too. I predicted 40 pages before I got up. You college and high school kids could have done better. :)

Define 'die'. Last place is death relative to where they sat moments ago. Of course, things can go their way by end of year, but it's kinda difficult to draw up a plan of how that's going to happen given the way things look right now.

Did you not read NA in my post? As in North America?

Capcom is making this real easy for Konami and Square. They are giving them an out.

Those two companies have investors or are they privately held?

I would think that this will create some controversy in those boardrooms, if decisions haven't already been made to go multi.

Let's start putting down predictions on the length of the first thread with comparison pics of the 360 and PS3 versions.

I can already give you the rundown on the comparison:

The 360 has better lighting and textures, but the PS3 has waterfalls in the background that use radiant AI. Also, the 360 version is too dark and the PS3 version, too light.

"Die" as in the Sony playstation goes out of business, discontinued, etc. And don't you think it's too early to be proclaiming what place the PS3 will end up in? Japan and Europe could easily put the PS3 in second place worldwide.

Hmmm, put me down for a Hypocritical combo of NG is now > than DMC, and I'll also take a side of DVD-9 held back what this game could have been.

So I see that the last 2 pages have boiled down to a 'what-if' scenario about Gears of War coming to PS3.

I'll play along and my answer is... so what? Who cares if PS3 lands Gears of War?

By the time it gets to PS3 nobody will care and Gears of War 2 will either be announced or about ready to release for Xbox 360.

Gears is a non-factor in the console war unless Epic gets to the point where its releasing the same game day-and-date for each console.

What's so alarming about DMC4 and other former Sony exclusives is that they are being released day-and-date for Xbox 360 and this takes away any competitive advantage Sony has. There's no possible way you can shrug this off (spin it) and say this doesn't have an effect on Sony. Microsoft wins in this scenario and Sony loses. But go ahead and continue spinning because the entertainment value is priceless.

Crapcom being pathetic as usual.

Wanna explain how? this doesn't compromise the PS3 version's quality in the slightest. and now I get it on PC. only reason I can think of is your pride taking a hit.

I am very excited to hear that Devil May Cry 4 is coming to the X-Box 360.

I have never played any of the Devil May Cry games because I never jumped on the PS2 band-wagon. But I was truly interested in the games...

So... I have an X-Box 360 and love Capcom games... so I cannot wait for RE:5, DMC:4...

Very good news for X-Box 360 owners and Microsoft...

So far, 360 NA+JPN > PS3 NA+JPN in the monthlies.

DMC4 was supposed to be one of the linchpins of Sony breaking that trend, no?

He didn't expect Capcom to backstab PS3 owners/Sony in the back considering DMC is always been a Playstation Franchise

Wait, people are talking about Gears on 360? :lol

Not only is that game/series closely held by MS, but we have yet to see any example of an Only on 360 tagged game switching over. I don't see why people are using this story to justify a port of LP/DR/Gears. Sequels for the first two, yes. Ports... there's no basis for saying that yet. Gears, never.

Pretty much.

If I'm claiming to know how things end up, it's because you're apparently incapable of reading my posts. I only say things that could be possible. Things that I think are happening. Obviously, it's my projection based on current events and looking at how some things affect others.

I have never claimed nor implied that Sony Corporation will 'die' (by your definition) because of their current course of action or inaction. Nintendo and Sega didn't cease to exist because they got their asses handed to them in console land at some point in their lifetimes. I just don't share your high optimism in a situation where I feel that is simply not warranted currently.

I would say MS/360 is making this real for Konami and Square. What platform has the largest install base? The 360. Where is the money at? The 360. Turns out MS was right about releasing before Sony did.
