(OH SHIZNITS) Devil May Cry 4 confirmed multiplatform PS3/360/PC

If I'm claiming to know how things end up, it's because you're apparently incapable of reading my posts. I only say things that could be possible. Things that I think are happening. Obviously, it's my projection based on current events and looking at how some things affect others.

I have never claimed nor implied that Sony Corporation will 'die' (by your definition) because of their current course of action or inaction. Nintendo and Sega didn't cease to exist because they got their asses handed to them in console land at some point in their lifetimes. I just don't share your high optimism in a situation where I feel that is simply not warranted currently.

Huh? You gave your scenario and I said it's simply too early to count Sony out. And I never implied that YOU said that Sony is going to die, I just defined it for you when you asked. *shrug*

I would say MS/360 is making this real for Konami and Square. What platform has the largest install base? The 360. Where is the money at? The 360. Turns out MS was right about releasing before Sony did.

Yup. MS may not have been in the best place at launch (shortages for monthes, ridiculously failure rates), but forcing Sony to work around their schedule really screwed them over.

I must've taken this:

to include myself.

Apologies if that's not what you meant.

Yup. It's only going to get worse before it gets better too. Halo in 6 months. Sony's got nothing to stop it.
Thing is, Nintendo might be ahead of both of them by then. All this hand waving might be over second place.

Can you imagine the GAFsplosion if Capcom announced Devil May Cry: Dante Must Waggle next week?

Releasing in 2005 was the smartest thing they ever did in the game biz. Yeah, it meant that they couldn't use high-def optical disc, but they really had no choice. If they released a year later against Sony with a $500+ HD-DVD 360, they would have gotten their asses kicked.

True. Still, MS and Sony are very interchangeable due to the fact that they share close to 95% of the same games. Only one's gonna really succeed while the other fades off and is stuck at a very small percentage of the market, I think.

Quite true, but what Capcom is doing is showing these guys that it's not just academic. Make good games on m$'s platform, and you can have million sellers.

Not saying they wouldn't/won't sell on the PS3, even with the smaller user base, but that it's virtually a guarantee that you will have a big seller on the 360.

That's probably the case given the price difference. The more people see that they can get the same games on the 360 for less money, the quicker they're going to switch if they were PS2 gamers before.

I really think Blu-Ray is a non-starter as a selling point for the vast majority of potential PS3 buyers. It's all down to the games. Right now Nintendo is generating the most game buzz with Microsoft second.

He didn't expect Capcom to backstab PS3 owners/Sony in the back considering DMC is always been a Playstation Franchise

As opposed to backstabbing them in the front?

Capcom is third party. They have to make decisions that are best for them economically and right now, sticking PS3 only is not a good choice. And the way this generation is stacking up, sticking to any one platform for third party isn't a good choice.

There is no betrayal here. It's just makes good sense if the company wants to, you know, stay in business and make a profit. GAF drama queens need to get over it.

judging by NPD alone, it will take something like two years or more for the Wii to overtake the 360's head start

Indeed, while Microsoft and Sony are fighting over exclusives, Nintendo could sneak into first place and start dashing ahead before Microsoft or Sony even notice.

I mean right now the Wii and DS are outselling their competition by a large amount WW and theres no signs of it slowing down yet, in the long run these exclusives might be all for nothing.

If anything happens this gen, it would be Nintendo getting the majority of exclusives, not nesicarily because they sell the most, but because its cheaper to develop for and has a completely different method of control which alters the way a game is played.

The age of third-party exclusives may be over for the PS3 and 360, but for the Wii it is still going strong.

In the end, these exclusives going multiplat only serves to weaken both the 360 and PS3 base strengths, which in turn strengthens the Wii's base strengths.

I never played DMC hands on, so i can't wait to give it a try on a next-gen console. I only have a 360 but I'm waiting for the A class games to be abundant on the PS3 side. We all the know the list of A-class MPGs so only thing keeping my interest with it will be Heavenly Sword and MGS4. Ahhh, the day MGS4 crosses over. GAF is gonna have a heart-attack, heads will explode, and the joker will

im sure the impressive monthly software sales on 360 is making Konami think twice about console exclusivity.

This one goes to all my 360 brothers buying up software like thier pockets is filled with 50s

edit: Winning Eleven peformed well in EU too!

this thread reminds me off the vf5 one.
i remember everyone was like omg sony is doomed, and then a few days later it was forgotten and vf5 bombed, and we knew why sony didnt bother tying it up as an exclusive.
the same goes for this. not saying dmc4 will bomb, but its not the kind of game sony wants to break their back tying it up. all this hysteria will be forgotten in a few days and gaf will move on to something else. just look at the feb npd :lol

I've noted before in other threads that nearly every third-party game on Wii is exclusive, simply because of the Wii Remote as a control method. Unless a game is ported to use the Gamecube controller (doubtful), the controller makes it 100% unique as a game experience.

Would you have said the same about DMC yesterday afternoon?

Perhaps it bombed, because it wasn´t an exclusive anymore? I´ll wait for the numbers it´ll sell on the 360, before I come to a conclusion.

Except it's not out for the 360, so the effects of the news hasn't exactly been seen yet. :)

Dude, if that's the case, then Sony's in big trouble because everything's going to bomb on PS3.

The Virtua Fighter series hasn't been known to be a mainstream favorite for a long time. Couple that with the fact that it came out on a new system that doesn't have a large installed base yet, and the fact that fighting games in general just don't hold the same popularity that they once did, and you can start to see why the VF5 sales numbers aren't burning up the charts.

Would you rather play Tiger Woods 07 swinging the golf club "for real" or by pushing buttons?

I bet the majority of purchasers would prefer the former over the latter, and there's only one system that offers it.

VF5 didn't sell on the PS3 because of it's limited userbase. Not because the game was bad.
No,if you look at the past sales for the previous VF titles,VF isn't really a big seller in the US.

tiger woods on the wii is not a killler app, name me a third party exclusive on the wii right now that fans of ms and sony would die to have on their system. i cant think of any.
first party is a different story though

How much do you guys want to bet that Shane won't show up for the podcast on Friday, claiming to be sick? :lol :lol :lol

He freaking better! Where's Luke when we need him most...

I think the success of Dead Rising and Lost Planet made this already obvious business decision an even bigger no-brainer.

If you extrapolate a bit one can say that Keiji Inafune is responsible for this since he is the one that got DR and LP green lighted at Capcom. The games then went on to sell extremely well and now we have DMC4 on the 360.
