"We" are hyped about Heavenly Sword because we have seen it in motion (in-game), seen behind the scenes production videos and seen previews of many journalists praising it. Did people say crap like "why are we hyping up Halo if its because of a videos and made by the guys who made Oni?"

To be fair, Bungie made way more than just Oni. They had quite the stellar track record when Halo came out. The same can't be said for Ninja Theory. I'm still optimistic, though.

DMC is a bigger game than i thought, judging by those replies in 1 day it seems like an uber hyped game, this thread has more posts than the official dmc4 topic ROFL :lol

AND Halo was trolled to hell when it was in production

you can say the same about heavenly sword, where's the media and new gameplay impressions? personally i think both games are overhyped.

TH has certainly divuldged a good deal more regarding what they are trying to do in regards tot he mechanics and the RPG elements.

No,just a bunch of stealth trolling/off topic derailment arguments by our typical GAF members :)

Didn't you see the DQIX thread? Threads like these bring home the point that there is a big contingent on this board that cares for more consoles than games.

boo hoo hoo, poor Sony. yeah, ´cuz people here dont troll against Nintendo and MS >_>

I guessing about 90% of the people in this thread have never completed a DMC game, it's funny seeing people say "Now that it's on the 360 I'll give DMC a try!" Welcome to five years ago Mr. huge DMC fan, your about 3 games too late. Good luck on catching up on 3 games that are only on the ps2!

well, so far at least.

Here's something to think about:

What if....just what if....Capcom uses DirectX10 and the Cry2 Engine for the PC version?

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

So, you're actually implying that unless someone is 'TEH HARDCORE DMC FANZ0R!" they shouldn't bother with DMC4?

priceless :lol I'm sure Capcom is going out of their way to make the game totally inaccessable to new adopters.

true, but so far Devil may cry has been a series that has not exactly been targeted for the mainstream/mass appeal (with the exception of DMC2 of course, that game bad enough for anyone)

well TH got a terrible reception at E3 and HS got a positive enough reception, though some concerns were expressed about the expansiveness of the game (was it set in a arena) and how the mechanics were going to work. TH has everything to prove I think, since the game just looked plain bad. Still the ambition is there

peace

News that hurts the market leader of the last two generations, in this case Sony, is almost (if not) inherently more important than news that hurts the previous losers. And that applies across most industries. Huge McDonalds scandal--automatically more interesting than if it happened to Sonic or Arby's. Coca-Cola legal troubles? Way bigger than the same troubles for RC Cola. And so on.

Japanese PSN has 2 Promo movies up of DMC 4 today. Not sure if they are old or not. Promo Movie A is 128 MB, and Movie B is 28MB. Movie B is a bunch of gameplay shots, topped off by a huge boss with a lot of nice flame effects. The game play looks like DMC 3 (it didn't show off much of the new system) with very nice updated visuals.

I'm downloading Movie A right now to see what it's all about.

Specifically, Myth and Marathon (and the sequels to both). Also Pathways into Darkness, if you want to go back further. All absolutely fantastic games. Consoles fans may not be familiar with Bungie's (superb) track record before Halo and Oni, but computer gamers sure are.

like it matters? MGS2S was on XBOX and we all know how that went

a) IIRC, that was before XBOX really had a substantial userbase
b) It was a shoddy port with a crap framerate
c) Anecdotally, there seem to be a substantial number of people who owned a PS2 but no XBOX last gen who own a 360 but no PS3 this gen. Call it the 'first legit next gen console to market' buyers. A number of such people would want MGS4. I do.

Because there is a GIANT difference in the two.

Lost Planet and Dead Rising, two games which have never been part of a franchise, getting ported to the PS3 months or so after already bring out on the Xbox 360..........

..........is vastly less important than a franchise that has lived on the Playstation brand for 3 iterations and was never once even CONSIDERED for another platform now having a simultaneous release on the Xbox 360. Not 6 months after the PS3 version. Not 1 month after. The same day.

That is why there won't be a 40 page thread when those two games get ported to the PS3. This is simply bigger news.

Heavenly Sword may turn out to be amazing but really the hype is pretty much unwarranted IMO considering we have only seen videos and the ppl making the game dont really have the best track record.

Yes, because that was a stellar example of when to port a game. I guess Rockstar is pissed about how well GTA did on the Xbox :lol. Maybe Capcom doesn't like the fact their two 360 games have gone all gangbuster on sales.

its cause the cool thing to do is hate on sony. You talk as if Dead Rising and Lost Planet arent already established franchises. How many have both sold? Im willing to wager its on par if not more then DMC3

This announcement is a big deal because Sony needs exclusive games -- triple-A system-seller super special awesome exclusive games -- to overcome its cost disadvantage.

Last gen PS2 had tons of exclusives that the Xbox couldn't match. Not only huge mass-market series (Ace Combat, DMC, FF, MGS), but all those unique niche titles. Ico and SOTC? Okami? Katamari? Amplitude and Frequency? The entire N1 library and pretty much every other SRPG? No competition.

In next-gen things look different:

PS3 exclusive: MGS4, FF13

360 exclusive: Bioshock, Dead Rising, Gears

Multi: Ace Combat, DMC4, Assassin's Creed

Not available on either console: DQ, SRPGs

Don't care about: Blu-Ray

Even if they were the same price I would still buy the 360 based on that matchup, and Sony overpricing its console by $200 just makes the choice that much easier.
