OK, I'm getting a DS today.

My little brother gave me a $30 Target gift card and $65 in cash to use towards an NDS. I'll definitely have to use the gift card to get a game, obviously, but I also have the choice of Wal-Mart, Best Buy, EB, Gamestop and Gamecrazy. I will be buying Metroid Prime Pinball (for me) and Advance Wars DS (for my brother). He likes silver, so I'll probably get one in that color.

What would be the best way to do this? I haven't really kept up on CAG things. I'm looking at $180 + tax. How can I cut that figure down without buying used?

Dont waste your money, handhelds suck.
Just go buy a good game or something.

I have plenty of good games. He wants a DS, and I kind of do too, because Metroid Prime Pinball rocks my socks.

Or use the $10 off Best Buy coupon on the games.

Okay, that brought me down another $10. I'll probably trade in my FF 1&2 and GT4 to Best Buy, which will knock off another $30.

Hey I'm gonna get a DS soon with the Megaman Zex announcement. I'm wondering for GBA BC can you use the X and Y buttons or do you have to use L and R?

Go to Gamecrazy and try and get the games or the system used. They have rock solid deals on used with a good used warranty.

Then use that gift card for one of the things you didn't buy at Gamecrazy.

You should prolly wait until tomorrow on the off chance Nintendo announces a DS revision as rumored.

I'm also thinking I should go to Best Buy, in case there's a price drop (HAHAHAHAHAHA).

When I went with my friend to buy a DS, he asked to look at the used DS' at EBGames, and apparently their policy is when they get a used DS in, they send it to Nintendo and just put a new Nintendo DS in the used box and sell it as 'used'. I'd actually see if you can do that, because it saves a lot of money.

Really! Sweet! I'm about to go trade mine in then.

GBA uses GBA buttons.

How much is a used NDS?

Depends on where you go, EBgames in my town has them for 110, same for gamespot. At Rhino (a SouthEast company) they have them for 99.

Used games are great for the DS. You don't have to worry about scratches like on CDs/DVDs.

True, and the boxes are not cardboard like for gba games.

i was going to get a ds today too but i'm fighting the temptation because of the rumored redesign announcement that's supposed to happen on monday
i'm sure a redesign will happen, although i doubt it'll happen tomorrow, but it can't hurt to wait another day or so

i'm no fanboy, but comparing the ds to the virtual boy is ridiculous...

If you buy a NDS at Circuit City this week, they're throwing in a free copy of Nintendogs. If you really don't want it, return it to Wal-Mart or sell it on eBay/Amazon.

That's the best you'll do as far as getting a deal on a DS, to my knowledge.

Also, Metroid Prime Pinball kicks serious ass. I also noticed that Sears has it marked down to $30, as opposed to the full price of $35. So you could pick that up there, then head over to Target and buy Advance Wars: Dual Strike with your gift card.

That seems like your best bet. Enjoy your DS. ;D

No this is a lie. They sell you the same DS that was traded in. Speaking of which, you should never purchase a used Nintendo console considering their one year warranty on all new systems. You could save yourself $10 by buying a scratched-up used DS at GameStop or you can pay full price and have the option to send it in for repairs free of charge to Nintendo and get a brand new unit back. The best part about their policy is that the new system you receive also comes with a one year warranty of its own.

its probably going to end up as the next virtual boy

i wouldn't risk wasting your money

What a blatant troll, just go away.

On topic , get a new DS, never get a used one, they're cheap anyways.

No tax on a gift card so.. $150 + tax ;)

Deal is done. I'm looking at my new copy of Metroid Prime Pinball ($34.99+tax) and my brother has the new silver system ($129.99+tax) and the new copy of Advance Wars DS ($24.99+tax). We put roughly equal amounts of money into it in the end.

What's the logic behind that?

You, sir, are a complete and utter idiot.

The DS has plenty of good games, as do the GBA and PSP.

Wait for the redesign.

What I'm doing. I really dig the DS, but current unit isn't really portable enough to be carried unless it's in a bag.

QFT

Also, the casing for the DS is uncomfortable...don't lie to yourselves people, it sucks.

your pockets must be fucking small.

I don't even carry my Micro in my pocket, because I have car keys and a wallet. I don't want to ruin that beautiful thing. I even would have treated a GBA SP the same way, because I'm anal like that.

See, I played about a half-dozen DS games in kiosks, most of them titles that were really touch-screen demos like Kirby and Yoshi. Because of that, I thought I didn't "get" the DS.

Then I played Metroid Prime Pinball at Fry's. It was incredible.

Then I played a bunch of second-string PS2 RPGs and slowly realized I had more fun in the 15 minutes I played MP Pinball than in the 30 hours I had played Suikoden IV.

$90 of my money and $90 of my brother's money later, I have our very own DS and my own copy of MP Pinball all to myself for the night. AWESOME.

if you can find it :\

I can find it. I'm going to be careful not to get too many games at once with the DS, though, like I have with every other system I own. Besides, Prime Pinball rocks. I haven't had this much fun in YEARS.

Pheonix Wright isn't hard to find. At least where I am. I've seen it in every Gamestop that I've been to.

P.S. I don't think I've ever played a game with better/funnier dialogue than this. I stopped playing all my other games so I can finish it.
