FUCKING WINDOWS MESSENGER IS DRIVING ME NUTS!

How the fuck do I get this piece of shit to stop automatically signing in when I boot up or connect to the Internet?!

I have tried the following things ALL TO NO AVAIL:

1) Disabled "Run this program when Windows Starts" and "Allow this program to run in the background" under Options/Preferences/General

2) REMOVED the fucker from startup using MSCONFIG

3) Signed out and unchecked "Sign in Automatically"

Thats right. All these fucking checkboxes are staring at me in the face UN-FUCKING-CHECKED and yet STILL it keeps automatically signing in!!!

What a monumental piece of shit! >_<

HELP ME GAF!

I have Norton Internet Security 2005.

Personal Firewall > Configure > Programs > Microsoft Windows Messenger > Modify > Block

Problem solved. :)

hmm, that's weird. just doing:

Disabled "Run this program when Windows Starts" and "Allow this program to run in the background" under Options/Preferences/General

fixed it for me.

do you have MSN messenger too? it seems like if i'm running one the other one tends to fuck off.

oh, i also have Messenger Plus! (http://www.msgplus.net/) ...but i don't recall it having an option to shut off windows messenger, maybe it does. i'm never signed into msn any more anyway *shrug*

I have the same problem too. I'll boot up my PC and the second I start doing anything, somebody will start talking to me.

"Feck off, you can't be talking to me cuz I'm not even signed in."

Argh, I hate it. Signing into MSN cancels out Windows Messenger, but it doesn't change the fact that I hate having people talk to me as soon as I get on. I do like to have some peace while I'm surfing the net....

It doesn't help removing it from windows startup because it just reverts to the setting you can actually change in the program.

I need my FIREWALL to make this thing stop?! Un-fucking-believable. OK, I've just tried this. Hopefully it will stick. Thanks MIMIC.

I think its shambolic that this trojan piece of shit software THAT I DIDN'T EVEN ASK FOR MR GATES, seems to have a crapload of superfluous "configuration" options that are negated by its intrinsic relationship with XP. What a hateful bit of software it is.

You went to Services in Administrative Tools and disabled it from there?

lacks enthusiasm.
Are you talking about MSN Messenger or the Messenger service?

If you want to kill MSN, just go to your Program Files folder, find the Messenger folder, and rename it to something like "MessengerOFF" or whatever. If it doesn't let you, make sure Outlook is not running and the exe is not running.

If its the service, then what Claus posted should work.
