Ok...WTF. PSP randomly shuts off.

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
What is the matter with my US PSP? Ever since I got it last week, I've experienced it randomly freezing and shutting off on me. It's happened with Twisted Metal twice, and now with THUG 2 twice. This is pretty damn annoying. Does anybody else have this issue? It can't be just me...

Could be a defective unit. You have a second unit right? Is it happening to that one too?

IT BEGINS.. (Seriously, though, I hope not)

I've had my import freeze up on me once in Wipeout and once in Twisted Metal. Are you sure you aren't accidently sliding the power switch?

Ha ha ha, that doesn't happen on my DS!

Then again, I haven't touched my DS for weeks.

Oh, btw, taking the PSP out of "hold" makes it too easy to accidentally throw it into standby mode. Grr

After being screwed over by Sony with the ps1 laser skipping problem, and ps2 DRE's, I learned my lesson. I'm getting the 2 year product replacement plan for my PSP, I advise everyone to do the same.

Considering that my fingers are nowhere near it, and the fact that the PSP actually freezes for a couple of seconds and then shuts off.

No.

If it's the games fault, it'd be interesting if they recall them

I'm getting a Dreamcast vibe here

It might be the battery... The one's I got had a problem with Darkstalkers it would just shut off while loading or mid battle it was very annoying. I completely discharged the battery and charged it completely again, and it's stopped doing it. Did you let it complete charge?
It solved my problem and it hasn't done it since. My other unit I'm keeping sealed for a friend I'll see if he has the same problem when he opens it.

Does it occur when watching movies or listening to music? Spend a day using it soley for music and movies and see if it happens again.

US, you know that the BlockBuster Gamestore at Trinity Mall has them(not for sale to the general public until the 24th but if you can sweet talk them enough they might give you one PS. CASH ONLY) :D I posted it in AlphaSnakes other thread.

Haha, nice. But didn't you already have a Japanese unit? What did you do with that one?

Sold it to a desperate College friend who was willing to pay a hell of a lot for it because he couldn't wait anymore lol. That's how I paid off my first unit, then bought another which is going to my girlfriend's brother... for the right price of course :D

Yep yep Trinity Common's Mall the "mini city" of stores :lol

Very close to my place, I'd hit it up if I were getting a US unit. As of right now I just need to get my ass some new PSP games, bah, gotta still wait a week before I can do that (still in Uni ATM :()

I love when people act suprised that their first-gen PS hardware is garbage.. even after this shit has happened for 2 generations.

To be fair, I've put lots of time into Lumines in the last two months with no problems whatsoever. It might be buggy launch software causing problems, I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of it by the end of next week.

I let it charge all the way. Ironically, this has happened to me with both the AC connected to the PSP and not.

wow ok maybe you might have a defective unit. I know I had a very similiar problem but it was fixed by discharge/charge. Since you're in the "game-biz" maybe you can return it to Sony for a replacement? Goodluck with that.

I heard the Sony PSP shoots battery acid into your eyes at random intervals. Also, if you look at it crossly, it explodes.

Any truth to this?

Sounds like the usual 1st generation Sony game hardware dicketry we've all come to love and appreciate.

Live in your world, try to play in ours!

I'm not sure about those... but I've heard that if you put a DS and a PSP in the same room, turn off the lights and close the lights.. it will destroy the competition! True story!
