Yeah, my US PSP has locked up twice, once with a Twisted Metal online disconnect and another time when I switched out game discs without exiting out of the game.
I have a feeling that when you get dropped from an online game it causes havok with your PSP.

I thought something was up with mine until I figured out that the base of my hand was nudging the power switch slider enough to put it in sleep mode. Since I noticed what the problem was I haven't had a repeat. Although if it's freezing for multiple seconds before the black screen it's probably not that, as that has an immediate black screen.

i have found that problem with my PSP since i got a game for it.
for some reason, when it enters sleep mode, its like the machine is in standby.


PLUS, whats the animated circle on the bottom right hand side of the screen?
is it the wireless 'searcher'???
how do i switch it off. i dont like it...

edit: it takes a few seconds to power off now too.

What is the matter with my US PSP? Ever since I got it last week, I've experienced it randomly freezing and shutting off on me. It's happened with Twisted Metal twice, and now with THUG 2 twice. This is pretty damn annoying. Does anybody else have this issue? It can't be just me...

Do you have any Japanese games still handy? You could try using a game you KNOW is rock solid on the system.

That sounds exactly like my laptop when it's overheating!
Fortunatly that only happens during summer, so I have to underclock the CPU for a few months.

AlphaSnake, it's gotta be covered under warranty at this stage in the game. Better do something now before it's not.

I always get the extended warranty personally. Hell, I went through 3 fucking Xboxs before I got one that wasn't bogus.

That's why the irony is so sweet in this instance. He didn't pay for it. Sony sent it to him free, along with a pack of games, because he runs a PS oriented web site.

What do you do in that situation anyway? Suck it up, because a free PSP with some defects is better than having paid $250? E-mail your contact at Sony and ask how to exchange it? Laugh hysterically, knowing that the defects were a ploy to get you to shell out the retail cost anyway?

That's the "system access" light, like how on Macs, you had a thing flash on your pull down menu bar to show you when the hard drive or such was being accessed. Think of it as a "The system is loading something" icon.
