Rockstar Games Social Club Shuts Down

Rockstar Games has discontinued its Social Club after 13 years, redirecting its URL to the main website. The platform was a hub for connecting players, tracking progress, and accessing exclusive content for titles like Grand Theft Auto. Features included creating Crews, sharing custom GTA content, and accessing the GTA Online stock market. However, the service became outdated, with issues like crew hijacking and account vulnerabilities. Insider Videotechuk suggests Rockstar may be developing a new platform for GTA 6. This follows news of GTA 6's projected $7.6 billion revenue in its first 60 days. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption's voice actor, Rob Wiethoff, clarified he misled fans about "exciting news," dashing hopes for a 60 FPS update or Switch 2 port for Red Dead Redemption 2.

I created a rockstar account in anticipation of GTA6 on PC but hopefully they shut down their launcher by then.
I shouldn't need a separate account and launcher if I buy a game on Steam.

I just logged into my account to manage my "crew" on the Rockstar Social Club, and the site is working normally. I didn't get redirected at all.

Hopefully this leads to the death of that shitty launcher you have to use when buying games on Steam.

I don't get why Valve still hasn't made a rule that prevents you from being forced to download third-party launchers to play games you bought on Steam.

And I really hope the next launchers to get discontinued are EA's and Ubisoft's.

They'd be wise to just use Steam. Make Valve do the leg work and just collect checks. I would bet serious cash that Origin and UPlay haven't made a cent since inception. Just a matter of how much money they've lost. And I'm not even talking lose sales. Just operating costs.

I literally can't play any EA game on steam because i can't recover the EA account. So I just had to buy them on the EA app.

how is it I only log into Steam when I buy a new motherboard, but I can't take a shit without having to sign-in again to Origin or UbiSlop? Is the "keep me signed in" checkbox just there to taunt us? Seriously how is it that hard?

I gave up and just wrote down all my non Valve credentials on a post-it note on my desk. Password hygiene be damned. Even Epic has already lapped those two when it comes to launcher design.
