Okay GAF'ers, Geist... Is it worth $10?

I made my usual stop at Toys 'R Us this afternoon to see if they had any new games in the clearance pile since I was last there. I saw that they had a copy of Geist for $9.99. Knowing how moderately amusing the Duke Nukem games of old were, I entertained the idea of getting it, but I know the reviews were very hit or miss (mostly miss).

So, I pose the question; is it worth $10? Or is my money better spent on something else?

$10? Might as well. I'm playing it right now and enjoying it. It's an interesting take.

Multiplayer is also entertaining for half an hour.

I paid $10 for it and felt like I got a deal. Yeah it isn't the best FPS out there and yeah it can be pretty buggy (got to one point that the game became a total glitchfest so much so that one of the cutscenes looked like I was trying to stream it on a 56k connection) but I found it to be pretty fun in the end. The possesion aspect was fun.

Come on...Ten freakin' dollars. If you hate it just trade/sell it.

It's really bad. It was a neat idea, I wanted it to be good, but the game feels like a badly made piece of software from 8 years ago. Keep your money, there are so so many better titles out there.

I agree, the game is horrible

If you can power through the almost unbearably annoying second half, it provides a suprisingly interesting game. The puzzle aspect is quite fun, but that second half....so bad...

N-Space has some idea-men, that's for sure, but they really need some experts in the technical aspects of game-making.

IAWTP. This game is the very definition of RENTAL ONLY.

Just wait when Toys R Us eventually marks down their clearance games. Geist should be $0.99 by then. I dont know about your TRU but mine has a shitload of Geists, even at $10 for the last 2 months

Once again, who's that chick in your avatar?

And yes, get it. It's 10 bucks, and a prettty decent game.

I bought it at my TRU for 10 bucks, it is a solid title. Definately don't feel ripped off. A lot of aspects of the game are actually done very well.

No

Since Nspace is a small Floridian developer I felt compelled to purchase it and support them (for $10 that is). My love goes out to the guys and I liked what they were trying to pull off but to be frank it sucked.

It's not a question of money so much as time. Are there better games you could be spending that time on? Definitely. There are even better bad games you could be playing instead of Geist.

I bought the game... the first section is quite interesting. I lost interest after getting
caught and put back in the training simulator
. The "virtual" training sessions are too annoying... I'll eventually blast through them, and move on to the next segment of the game.

Geist would have been better if they'd made it a full-on adventure game. The puzzles are pretty cool, the shooting not so much. It's definitely worth $10, though.

The answer. It's was like feeding rotten meat to a hungry, starving userbase.

One other thing: Geist is the perfect example of a final boss battle chucking every previous play mechanic out the window. God, that fight was horrible.

And WAY too long.

Geist is basically two games shoe-horned into one. There's the adventure game and the first-person shooter. The adventure game is quite a bit of fun, while the shooter sucks badly. The adventure game takes up about the first half of Geist, while the shooter takes up much of the latter half.

The overall level design was okay, nothing too special, except for the subway and the underground house segment near the end really were simply amazing. Too bad the rest of the game couldn't have been like that...

The last chapter is really bad. REALLY bad. That really pissed me off.

The possession mechanics are pretty cool, and the shooting bits are just really bland. It makes for a pretty fun game. $10 is definately worth it.

And the multiplayer is pretty fun.

buy it...i got it at TRU for same price and thought it was worth it. not the best FPS, but i think it was trying to focus on puzzles more the shooting, cause the shooting parts got frustrating fast. starts out interesting but kinda falls apart i think. multiplayer seems interesting if i could find people to play with.

Don't remind me, I nearly threw my Wavebird out the window because of that asshole final boss.

I sure do wish they could've made the game speed up and sound much better. Theres this popping issue with the sound that drove me insane, plus the graphics looked very plain, underwhelming for what the GCN could really do.

That's being generous. Some of the worst feeling controls during any sort of action as well. Just horrid.

Yes, it's worth $10. Hell, it was worth the $40 I payed. I played all the way through Geist. That's more than I can say for a lot of 'good' games. I won't name names, it'd just piss people off.

And for the record, the multiplayer blows chunks. Worst multiplayer ever.

I has a really neat scene early in the game where I thought it was glitching out, and a cool atmosphere at first. After a while, it started to feel too slow and I lost interest. The shooter aspect is definitely weak, with a moderately entertaining puzzle aspect. There are much better games, but it wasn't a total loss at $10. Now when does Battalion Wars go $10?
