But to be fair, anyone can start up a website built around gaming news, and then technically tell people that they're "in the industry." It takes reliable contacts, a good reputation, and an ability to seperate editorials from news, and speculation from fact. Has Spong been right a few times? Hey, sure. But they've completely missed the boat on a few things too, like RE4 for the XBox, V-Pocket, etc.

i remember him "calling" ds castlevania. but no, i don't believe for a moment that he has the wide-ranging knowledge about nintendo's next console that his hints suggest (and correct me if i'm wrong, but they're his revolution hints are either so vague or so obvious that they'll never be debunked). whether i like the implications of his information has nothing to do with whether i believe it, i'm quite sure. though i'm not so sure about you.

I dunno how many things he called, but isn't a few things right enough, especially things as specific as KOTOR changing systems or a Mizuguchi DS game? This isn't like saying "Wait for the megaton at E3!" like half the board is saying, which leaves room to claim whatever they want. Why you specify him and not someone else, someone who let's say hasn't shown any previous knowledge before, is something I find hard to work out if it's not about Nintendo.

Yeah, Johnny Nighttrain seems to post actual info about stuff. He's sold me anyway, I'm not really going to give a toss if hes a liar either, which will be proved after E3. I also like the way he states "here is a total rumour that I do not endorse etc" before posting stuff he "heard" I dunno, I think he's legit.

having one piece of "inside" information is no guarantee of having another piece of "inside" information, let alone all "inside" information. some of you seem to struggle with this. and if there's anyone else making the sorts of claims johnny is, i haven't noticed. what makes johnny's lies obvious? the breadth of knowledge that they imply, mainly.
do you follow sports at all? you know when a trade rumor comes up that'd be really beneficial for your team, you follow it really closely, and maybe aren't as skeptical as you should be? that's certainly happened to me.

Oh I see. Well, when he called it, he actually didn't get it right. He got it right that it was in development, but it wasn't actually shown at the time he said it would be, but a bit later.
I don't know if he called Goemon, but he knew about Boktai, which we still haven't seen. And yes, he did know about the DS going online. Everyone seemed to by the time GDC was close, but I seem to recall he was one of the first to hint at it.
The problem here though, is that a guy who's given specific hints or outright telling us things is somehow one of the obvious bullshitters, when the people dodging around...nothing, don't get a mention. You just accuse him of making stuff up, apparently based on the fact that you think he knows too much, yet there are guys out there saying nothing but "Ooooh a big betrayal at E3" and that's it! That's a hundred times easier to bullshit about.
I'm going to bed now, and we're going round in circles anyway, so I'll just add that the only reason I'm getting worked up about this is that someone like blimblim, who's in an extremely similar position to Johnny, can confirm leaked specs and everyone accepts that without him even coming otu and specifically saying it, yet as soon as something positive about Nintendo comes out, it's obvious bullshit.

I endorse this thread with a big rubber stamp. Not only because of people's hatred towards the phenomenon exploding out of proportion (how can that happen? this is a gaming forum!) but because I can keep tabs on who says what, who are the people that sledge them and then later on (if that original poster was correct with their information) be able to PM said sledger and remind that they were wrong with proven evidence therefore handing a cup o' STFU.
