No, they didn't. They had a realtime tech demo that was based on the FFVIII dance. They never said that games would look like the actual FFVIII dance.

ok so for the ps2 it was toy-story graphics and we end with ZOE2, silent hill 2/3 MGS2/3 GT3/4 as far as the pinnacle of graphics on the PS2. yep, i guess i'll be happy with PS3.

MS made far more explicit references to Toy Story (and Toy Story 2) with Xbox. And photorealism! I guess if PS3 is a let-down, you can always pick a Xbox cheap

For people who don't know the Toy Story reference is Sony saying games would look comparable to Toy Story, on the PS2, before the PS2 was released. The guy wasn't saying 'for the ps2 the games look like toy story' he was referring to Sony's mega hype on PS2 that mentioned that.
