I've decided that my broken old body needs some chair love as I'm spending more and more time sat in front of my computer than ever before. I've searched high and low on the web and found little of particular help other than some vague reviews and information related to design awards.
So... I'm bringing it to the hivemind! I'm going to post a list of the chairs I've found below which seem to be generally recommended. There's a few others which I've seen recommended but aren't here because I can't seem to find them in the UK (Haworth Improv / X99 / Zody and Steelcase Please), and because I've tried them and didn't really get on with them (Herman Miller Aeron, Knoll Chadwick). Any general thoughts from people who have owned / tried / read up on any of these are much appreciated. Any other suggestions on ones I might have missed would be useful too, though I'm limited by what I can buy in the UK.
Apologies for yet another chair thread, but I read all of the others and they seem to be either out of date, Aeron love fests or very low budget.
Herman Miller - Embody
Probably the most expensive chair I'm looking at, and I've heard some bad things about the lower back support... but it still looks like one hell of a chair.
At this price though it would need to be perfect to stop buyers remorse.
Herman Miller - Mirra
Changes a few things I didn't like about the Aeron, and at a price that would let me forgive any minor niggles.
Humanscale - Freedom Headrest
Far closer in styling / shape to the chairs I normally use. Comes well recommended, but like the Embody, I've heard some bad things about the lower back support.
Humanscale - Liberty
Recline mechanism is supposed to be excellent... but I must admit that I don't have a lot of experience with tilt in chairs (mine's always in the locked setting).
Humanscale - Diffrient World
I'm not entirely sure what's different on this one vs the Liberty... but it seems to be the newer version of it (and it's apparently not available until the end of the year).
Unrelated, the spelling offends me.
Knoll - Generation
Whilst I must admit that I've seen quite a lot of good things written about this chair, the promotional material all seems to revolve around this chair being excellent for leaning sideways over like some sort of hyperactive fashion model... something I don't think I've ever done.
I tend to work when I'm sat at my desk, not slouch sideways like a filthy hippy!
An Exercise Ball
Someone always seems to suggest one of these... it's not going to happen!
