...but where is there to go? How much money did Netflix pull up to Tarantino to agree to this?
Netflix, FWIW, has been solid to Tarantino over the years. I wouldn't be shocked if his last film is a Netflix production at this rate

This explains what happened to that last movie that suddenly died
The Critic? Yeah. I think Tarantino's putting too much pressure on himself anyway now to have a spectacular final film. He should just keep making movies, still at the top of his game and evolving his style.

I don't mind if he retires from filmmaking as long as he keeps writing, I think that is what always drew me to his work. A Fincher x Tarantino film could be oscar worthy.

That's an interesting one since Tarantino has previously talked about Fincher being a director rather than a writer/director. Clearly he has a lot of respect for him though.

It's also interesting that going by the article Tarantino's abandoned The Critic project turned into this.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was sort of this fairytale of the cowboy, the archetypal Hollywood hero, riding in to prevent a real tragedy that some have pointed to as signalling the end of the golden age of Hollywood. So I suppose you could do more "what if?" type stories but that one did feel quite specifically crafted in a way that you perhaps can't quite replicate. But if Tarantino feels like he has more stories to tell in that world then why not. And if he's not going to direct it himself then Fincher is not too bad as far as substitutes go.

I remember enjoying this video essay about the first film so I'll share it here

Wouldn't be the first time it's happened, Natural Born Killers and True Romance turned out great. Also yeah might be a way of him wanting to continue projects but not have them be his final movie since he put that limit on himself.

It's the first thing that came to mind for me too. Where do you go after kicking Bruce Lee's ass and fucking up the Manson family?

An extended story about Cliff Booth wouldn't really befit the final and 10th film by Tarantino. But I would definitely love to see where he would take the character next, I thought Cliff was by far the most interesting character in OUaTiH.

BP was great in it I thought. His scenes with Qualley, with his dog, with Bruce Lee. Cool all around. But Pitt always makes for a memorable supporting actor.

Pitt was great in Inglorious Basterds, another Tarantino film (one of my favorites.)

I have hopes for this one.

It really doesn't need a sequel
Apparently it's a spin-off. Tarantino wrote a huge back story for Cliff and The Movie Critic morphed into this script. The novel for OUatiH also has a lot of narrative arcs centred around Cliff not in the film too. I haven't read it yet but it's on shelf.

I was bored for almost 90% of the movie. Only the ranch scene and the finale was interesting.

I don't know why he's not doing kill bill 3 like he promised 20 years ago. Volume 2 is the last Tarantino movie i liked without any reservations.

David Fincher is directing a sequel to "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," with Quentin Tarantino writing the follow-up to his Oscar-winning epic. Variety confirms the project, which does not have an official title, is being set up at Netflix, where Fincher has a first-look deal. Brad Pitt will reprise his role as stuntman and potential wife-killer Cliff Booth.

It's an especially unique production — not only because a high-profile director is helming a sequel to another high-profile director's film, but also because of the property's shift from a theatrical studio to a streamer. (The shift is especially pertinent as news of the project emerged during the movie theater industry's annual weeklong gathering at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.) "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" was released by Sony Pictures in 2019, but Tarantino negotiated a deal that would return him ownership of the film's underlying copyright after a number of years. Since this follow-up is being set up under Fincher's first-look deal at Netflix, that likely indicates that sequel rights may already be privately retained by Tarantino.

The project comes together after Tarantino scrapped plans for what would've been his 10th (and allegedly final) feature, "The Movie Critic." A script had been written and Brad Pitt had been cast in the lead role. The story was said to take place in the '70s and follow a film critic who wrote for a porn magazine. It had been rumored that Pitt would be playing some version of his "Once Upon a Time" character Cliff Booth, who in Tarantino's novelization of his own feature was revealed to be quite the movie buff.

Now, Pitt will officially reprise the role, which won him an Oscar for supporting actor. The project reunites Pitt with Fincher, who have each made some of their most acclaimed films together: the seminal thriller "Se7en," cult satire "Fight Club" and Oscar darling "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." It seems less likely that Leonardo DiCaprio or Margot Robbie would reprise their roles for the sequel.

While Tarantino's reputation is as a writer-director, the filmmaker has written scripts that he did not end up helming, including Tony Scott's "True Romance" and Robert Rodriguez's "From Dusk till Dawn." Meanwhile, Fincher has made two features at Netflix, both of which share themes with this new one: the Hollywood period piece "Mank" and the violent working-man thriller "The Killer."

The Playlist was first to report on the "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" sequel. Netflix did not respond for comment.

Oh shit! Under most other circumstances I would assume this is a lazy cash grab, but I trust this team. First movie was awesome.

I liked the movie, but not really for Pitt.

The Cliff Booth character was well written and well acted, in my opinion. He was a very good foil for the main character and helped move the plot along nicely.

Is there a name for the sensation you're feeling when you think something is both retarded and amazing at the same time?

For me it just felt like another Pitt performance of him mostly being the chill cool guy.

Just for me I don't think he's a good actor.

Some more info has come out about it and apparently it's not really a sequel, but a Once/Hollywood inspired film. Either way, Cliff Booth was my favorite aspect of the movie and if that character is in it, I'm in. That movie has grown on me since first viewing and it might be my second favorite Tarantino film now.

Doesn't Uma Thurman hate his ass though? That's legit not happening.

I really like the first, but I don't know this needs a sequel...but alright. I was just thinking "What's David Fincher been up to lately?"

I don't think David Fincher and Tarantino will make a movie if they don't believe they have something, neither of those men are sellouts or like straight up Russo Brothers, so I am optimistic.

I never saw the original. Was it good?

Are you sure we are talking about Netflix? The same Netflix that is doing a series about misogyny and incel?

Oh come on Fake, laser focusing on one thing they've done when they have multiple hundreds of things going on across the world, yeah it's the same Netflix, the same Netflix also doing those bad ass Korean fighting shows that no one here talks about, the same Netflix that let Scorsese do The Irishman, the same Netflix doing a shit load of Anime stuff and adapting violent series, the same Netflix doing a Devil May Cry show with a god damn Limp Bizkit song as the OP.

This shit always happens when some show gets popular.

I just don't trust their way of 'taking liberty to make changes', thats all.
