one major problem i have with Fight Club

Mister Apoc

Demigod of Troll Threads

It got me thinking: why would people follow a schizo with a split personality?

I can possibly see a few dozens of people since there have been crazy cult leaders in real life. But You can clearly tell he was fukked up.

-fighting and beating himself up the parking lot.

-constantly talking to himself.

-people had to see him talk to his "vision" a lot.

Your first mistake was thinking that a bunch of people who would willingly join a secret organization that is exclusively used for beating the absolute shit out of each other would be sane and rational in their own right in the first place.

By the time he gains followers, Edward Norton is losing large amounts of time where Tyler Durden is running the show. Nobody saw the fight in the parking lot. And when there are people around, you’ll notice one of them is always kind of among the crowd in the background. Marla is the only person who saw enough to realize how crazy he was.

Also… it’s a movie.

I haven't seen this movie in many years. I really have no opinion on it, guess I need to watch it again sometime. Nah.

i thought it was a super cool super edgy movie when i was like 18

i feel like the only way you like it now is if you're merely into the aesthetic of it all

Cringe Gen X movie. A whole generation too scared to stand up for themselves or have any solidified belief system that they wish they had a split personality in order to find that
Alternatively, it’s a story with a pretty well executed twist and a fairly unique visual aesthetic. Maybe you aren’t old enough to remember interesting stories though. Not every movie is a weird psychoanalysis of the generation that watched it. If that were the case, the current generation would be a bunch of pathetic losers who never got past playing superheroes after eating cereal in their parent’s basements…

It is one of the main themes of the movie

Maybe you should try watching movies past flashy visuals and main twists.

Shit the main character literally says "We are the middle children of history, with no purpose or place. We have no great war, or great depression. The great war is a spiritual war. The great depression is our lives."

I can’t explain how jealous I am that you met the man himself. He always seemed like a stand-up guy from his interviews and panels.
I gotta look through my old photos sometime. We were at a release for his book at the time, Choke. And there were full sized blow up sex dolls being thrown around the auditorium like beach balls at any other normal event. I got to take one home too, and got it signed 😂.

That's awesome. He was going to do a reading and signing back around 2015 in my area. For reasons I forget he had to cancel that stop. So many disappointed were there. I had my hardcover of Lullaby ready for signing, too :( (that wasn't the book he was touring for, I forget which one, but I wanted that one signed because my old dog-eared copy of Fight Club was lost in a move).

Don’t mind me, I’m just rocking back and forth in the fetal position in the dark, quietly resenting you.

900 people committed suicide after murdering a few because some crazy guy that convinced everyone to pack up their bags and move to South America told them to.

It’s not that difficult to believe.

I think it's actually more interesting to watch in your 30s. The original questioning of the character "what's the point of all that materialistic stuff and bullshit jobs" is more specific to that phase of your life.
(just checked, Palahniuk was 36 when the book released, and Norton just short of 30 when they made the movie)

Watching Fight Club was his first mistake.
