One of the sickest smackdowns I have ever seen in an online comment section...

I didn't see that guy respond to her again afterwards, and it's sort of ambiguous whether or not he was actually consciously making the right play (lampooning the hypocrisy of her situation, the natural consequence of which is either forbidding her to speak or emancipating herself which must therefore negate her Bible posture, in a formally literal sense).

But if he was, and I get the impression at least that he was intending as such, then kudos.

One word = Context.

I'm all for people believing what they want, and choice.

But if youre going to pull out one scripture, whether its to support one view or devalue that same verse, Use context of the surrounding verses, the actual meaning from Hebrew/greek, because theres multiple meanings for words that are not taken into consideration at all. That is the problem with all these new 'translations'. They translate everything wrong, thus what you see posted before. Ive seen these conversations for decades, its all the same, nothing new under the sun. If you get down to what was actually meant in the specified verse, (which takes a lot of studying and referencing definitions due to cultural context) it makes a lot more sense, and probably .05% of people know these actual meanings.

Its not that much of a burn, if a burn at all actually on those facebook examples. Lawl, facebook

Pffft, only going back as far as the original language the Bible was written in? That's pretty weak son.

All us REAL religious people only accept the exact spoken version of these words before anyone had the idea to write them down.

The former archbishop of Sweden laid a similar smackdown on the editor-in-chief of a christian newspaper a couple of years ago.

Translated for your pleasure.

"I can't find a single word in the bible which supports the idea of same-sex marriage."

"No, but you will find quite a few words which supports the idea that women should keep their mouths shut. So go easy on the bible."

K.G Hammar. A pretty cool guy to say the least.

Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.
1 Corinthians 14:34
and the next verse
1 Corinthians 14:35
If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church

These kinds of responses (i.e. "actually that's not reaaallly what it means") are just another defense against changing times. Validation in the face of a belief system paradox.
