Excellent

Struggling to find the new trailer featuring dismemberment for Onimusha Way of the Sword that was mentioned during the stream.

Oh shit. Didn't this one have likeness rights issues with the actor that made a modern release very iffy?

It's a PS2 port... there's no reason to exclude PS4 and with that it automatically gets PS5 support too, which would certainly be identical if it was only on PS5.

Higher framerate and loading times for a native PS5 port. Unlocked frames and VRR for PS5 Pro... no brainer...

I hope they at least fix the busted gifting in this game. I still can't believe it took me a 2nd playthrough to accidentally discover you could play as more characters

I'll buy it, it's an old favorite. Can't promise I'll play it, though. I was over the moon when Onimusha 1 remastered happened, happy as a pig in shit as I downloaded it and started a new game. Pretty sure my last save was right before that damn sliding panel puzzle that drove me nuts every play thru. Been telling myself "I'll jump back in soon" for however many years it's been.

Good shit. Probably my least favourite of the originals (never played 4), but still a fun time.

Seems to be a minimal effort job like the first. No idea why is taking so long.

My guess is that they put a port of the second one on ice because the first underperformed. Now that 5 is coming, it's a good way to promote it. That said, the first port did receive quite a bit of care and attention. All of the backgrounds were upscaled and retouched by hand, and the entire ost was recomposed due to legal reasons.

That's clearly Matsuda in the art. Crisis averted. Japan would have been very unhappy if Capcom didn't use his likeness again, so they probably figured it was worth coughing up the dough. The guy's a megastar over there.

They could have gone beyond that and add a "Genma Mode" with the Xbox version features.

you actually think the engine can run above 60fps without breaking the game in some way?
if you do you clearly don't know how games back then (especially japanese ones) were developed.
even RE4, whose code was adjusted for the newer HD releases to run at 60fps, still has multiple issues due to the framerate increase, because the game logic was originally coupled to the framerate.

on top of that the loading times will probably be shorter than the fade-out/fade-in transition animations are... because that was already basically the case on PS2.
so loading times will be basically not even a thing even when playing on a base PS4

this will run at 4k 60fps locked with no load times (outside of transition animations) on PS4 Pro and One X.
and for a simple remaster like this they would never go in and reprogram parts of the game to decouple the engine tick rate from the framerate either.
