Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition releasing March 11th on XB1/W10

Sorry if this has been asked already, but can my game save from the original transfer to this on Steam? Or do I need to restart the game?

I'd love to play the new content, and don't mind paying a small fee, but I'm not playing the entire game again.

This, I'd rather not have to play through the whole game again to see the new content

I wonder how many of you guys will actually try to conquer One Life Mode. That mode is exactly what it says: You only have a single chance to make it through the entire game. Die once and you start right at the beginning of Ori's journey. I can't wait to see people screaming in agony on Youtube as they try to make it through and slip up in the last dungeon, hahaha :D

dude...

I've probably died enough in Ori for everyone in this thread, lol.

One thing that excites me is seeing the youtube wizards do it though, or maybe if that mode gets a run at Awesome Games Done Quick. That would be amazeballs!

It almost sounds like you'd want to play it from the beginning to experience the new content. Maybe I'm just getting the wrong wiff about it (that's a thing people say, right?).

definitely getting the upgrade, hope my saves carry over, and i heard somewhere they are going to allow you to revisit forlorn ruins and misty tree? that'll be cool.

also, call me a cynic but if ori released today for the first time i have a feeling it might be win10 exclusive and not on steam, like gears of war ultimate/quantum break. it would be messed up to abandon everyone who has the game on steam already the way things are now but if it was a fresh release for pc...

It'll be available on March 11th for Xbox One, Windows 10 and STEAM. And if you already bought the original version of Ori and the Blind Forest on any platform, you'll be able to buy this version for a small upgrade fee.

Oh shit

I might dive back in if I can get the upgraded version for like $5

That's kind of a pointless run especially for a marathon since failure is not 100% avoidable so..
But if you want there's probably 0 death runs on youtube

Thank God! It was so frustrating not knowing what was going on after the delay. Btw..do we know if a disc version is happening? Although the discount for existing owners is great, I would gladly pay full price for a physical copy.

Absolutely hyped like you wouldn't believe. Ori was my GOTY by a huge margin last year (ended up buying it for both PC and Xbox, as well as gifting it to at least 10 friends on Steam...) - cannot wait for this!!

Also, since we constantly get asked about a retail release and merchandise (plushies, shirts, statues, etc.), we'll have news about that soon as well.

Oh man, I may cry.
My poor wallet.

Comes out in a week and a half and no word on upgrade price? It's going to be bad news isn't it?

Don't worry :) I can't release details since we first need to sync with Microsoft, but it'll be a very fair price for what you're getting, I highly doubt anyone will feel like the price we're asking for is unfair. It's a little silly that the price wasn't just announced as part of this news cycle, but sometimes things like that get stuck somewhere because of silly reasons.

I recall there being missable collectibles in the 2nd dungeon (maybe 3rd)? The dungeon with the collapsing ice cliffs. Was that issue fixed in the original release? Or fixed in this one?

$599

I won't even bother with one life mode, don't see the point, especially in a game with a lot of instadeaths

You could just savescum the one life mode, at least in the vanilla game. Even without that it wasn't impossible if you knew the game really well.

There were missable collectables in the all the stages that you couldn't return to because they were flooded/collapsed etc. which was kind of annoying for a Metroidvania type of game.

As far I know it should be fixed in this release (I'm guessing they just removed those collectables or moved them to another area.)

Yes, Gareth wrote new tracks for the two new environments and the new story sequences... he also put some more music together for the Making Of Content :)

Gareth mentioned something about releasing the expanded soundtrack with additional tracks. When is that coming out? If you can say :)

Fair enough, the PR cycle can certainly be an enigma sometimes.

Very much looking forward to the DE.

I believe Thomas had previously said this update would include every single major request, and NG+ was likely the largest and most immediate one that everyone that played the game talked about last year.

I'm not worrying about it, it has to be there.

i cant wait!! day 1 purchase. a small quick question, i enjoyed the difficulty in the original ori, who what mode should i play on the definitive edition is it normal or hard? thx thomas

on a side note i got ori as a gift on steam, will i still be able to upgrade to the definitive edition for a small fee?

Haha, if that sequence is too difficult for you, you can use the dynamic difficulty switching we implemented: You can change difficulty modes within the game at any point now :)

In general, I must have read every single NeoGAF post about Ori and we collected all the feedback we could find and tried to make sure we address absolutely everything. If you pointed out something in your review or in a Youtube video that you didn't like about the original game, chances are we went in and did something about it. And that's just the side-stuff we did, the main part of the work was adding all the DLC content, but we thought if we already release a new SKU, we can just as well address every single little complaint people voiced.

You guys have no idea how much we appreciate your support - it allows us to make new games and better stuff. And that's our goal, we want to make the best games out there and surprise you guys with super high quality and games that come from the heart. So thank you guys for the support - I hope the Definitive Edition will put a smile in your faces :)

Not sure if I'd say it was difficult (others may comment that I find it such though, my excuse is that I'm probably older than most here), I just can't get the timing down on that sequence and the rubberbanding water doesn't give me enough time enough space to think about what I'm doing wrong.

But anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer folk here. I greatly appreciate it.

I'd like to think so.

Cmon Thomas spill the beans :P

If the price is right on the upgrade, I'll bite. Not too keen on going though it again right now, but I'd show my support by an upgrade purchase if it's not priced outrageously. It's a gorgeous game with some challenging plat-forming and great music/art.

I made a big mistake and grinded out Triple Jump on my first playthrough, and managed to get somewhere that I couldn't get back out of. If the "upgrade" price is fair, I'll rebuy and start over. I was really enjoying my time with the game until I got stuck.

With the right upgrade price I will get this. Ori was good and having new content will make me want to play it again.

Guys, calm down, OF COURSE we are also releasing the Definitive Edition on STEAM as well :)

It'll be available on March 11th for Xbox One, Windows 10 and STEAM. And if you already bought the original version of Ori and the Blind Forest on any platform, you'll be able to buy this version for a small upgrade fee.

To clear up why there's a DE exactly a year after the original release, it's simple: We god tons of mails about making DLC. So we thought that might be a cool option, but Ori being a Metroidvania, it didn't feel right to just add more levels in a separate menu item. No, instead we thought it'd be great to enhance the world, add more abilities and story and add the new DLC content directly within the world you've already played through. Because of that, you can play through the game in new ways, since you'll gain new abilities and extras that you can then make use of in the rest of the game - We felt that that was a much better way of doing DLC than just making a separate pack with more stuff that wasn't connected to the original game in any way :)

I'm excited we're getting so close and that you guys can check out what we did - We just also put almost an hour of making of content into the game, so for people who're excited to learn more about our prototyping process, ideas we had, etc., there's just a lot of stuff in there :)

Also, since we constantly get asked about a retail release and merchandise (plushies, shirts, statues, etc.), we'll have news about that soon as well. Nothing's set in stone just yet, but we're trying to make it all work. We're super humbled by how you guys responded to Ori, so I hope with this release and the stuff we have planned we'll make you all happy! :)

Loved it the first time around and now it just sounds even better!

Day one for the DE :)
