Origin $20 off coupon [Expired - EA states they're honoring games]

I can't imagine they are. The most profit they make from Origin is from EA games (since they get all the profit). They're giving away their most valuable content, not including new games.

It's such an easy fix, they can pretend there was too much traffic and the servers went down while they stop the coupon

But they dont

They could make it so you have to buy a $60 game to use it

But they dont

Don't forget, there's no way they're not aware of this. They've now got an EXPONENTIALLY larger amount of bandwidth that THEY'RE paying for, giving away, for free games

There are so many reasons why if this was an accident it would be over by now, over a DAY later

You honestly think if there was a glitch on Origin and on launch day MOH Warfighter was ringing up as $0.00 they'd let it sit around for a day? Just because it's the weekend?

We are talking about EA here, It's a big company. Something like this can not go unnoticed.

It's just really hard for me to believe that this

was their intent when the coupon went up.

Unless they are that desperate to get people onto Origin.

I'm kinda surprised no one in this thread has played the ethics card and said we're all basically just pirating games and that we should go in jail or something

Unless I missed it

This is NeoGAF, even if you didn't read, you should be sure as hell that someone would have tried to point that already . Or are you new or something? :p

so my question is: how is this different than piracy, in ethic terms?

Sorry if this question breaks any rule. But is it just because they're giving the method to do it? (even though some are exploiting it to make it work further

All old games

Shit, EA game away free download keys for Dead Space, Mirror's Edge and Dragon Age because some people on Amazon had "trouble" installing Mass Effect 3.

Will I be able to use the serial #s I got in the confirmation emails a year from now? I currently have a crappy laptop and I won't be able to build for a while. When I download the games, will I need to have my confirmation emails to view the serials?

All your games will be avaiable in your origin account. The keys are automaticly attached to your origin account.

And they gave away Dead Space 2/MoH/Mass Effect 2 to people who got invited to the BF3 alpha and preordered BF3. You were only supposed to get 1 of the 3 but the email gave everyone all 3 that everyone got to keep. Then later the promo I got in on was free ME2 for preordering BF3 and I ended up cancelling since Amazon had a better deal and I kept my copy.

edit:They also gave away Spore/BC2/DA:O for their 1 year anniversary earlier this year.

I'd be more inclined to believe you if they took NO action at all

The fact they took SOME action, but really it's just an inconvenience for us shows they don't really mind
What was their thought process?
Code:
"We need to do something about people downloading 30+ free origin games"
"[I]How about we take the store down 'for maintenance' until we get this sorted out?"[/I]
"How about we make they actually spend money by raising the min price to 29.99?"

"These are all good suggestions gentlemen. I've decided to limit one free game per cart, and let's stop there."

Like I said, If we could get new, full priced, profit driving games like MOH or Company of Heroes 2 for free through some exploit rather than 2 year old overpriced games that no one was buying anyway on origin, they'd have it shut down in a matter of hours.

Look at all those game. Those game represent time that the Origin client will be open.

You think they dont monitor things like that? These companies even monitor threads related to their games on sites like NeoGAF to see how many replies and thread views they get on their games. They set sales projections and ad buys based on it.

They had their projections for how many people would install Origin. They had their projections for how often people would open origin, how many minutes per session and per day it would stay open, how many games would be sold per customer, profit per customer, etc. to a incredibly detailed degree. And no doubt they fell hilariously short on all of those projections. This is just a ploy to inflate their numbers and get more people to have the client open and maybe buy more games.

Most of these games (if not all) will work without Origin open though.

I know what you mean though.

Don't give up. I'm getting that error 9 out of 10 times. If you use Opera try opening every link in a different tab, so you don't lose your progress in case of the page not loading.

Finally got the train simulator .. I think that means I am done ... pretty obscure stuff left to nab ... and I will never touch any of it. I'll have to screenshot it here in a sec to show a final haul.

RE Sleeping Dogs:

Wario directed us to the Eidos community manager doing a pre-launch stream of the PC version where he was literally giving away Steam codes in the chat box

granted you had to be quick as hell but quite a few of us were able to grab copies
