Out of the Loop (TM) - Wii

Rabbids Go Home- clever platformer that makes full use of the character's potential and doesn't outstay its welcome. Probably cheap now, too!
Seconding this.
It may be a bit repetitive gameplay wise to some so it works best in short bursts, but it has an excellent sense of humor (even if you don't find the rabbids funny, you're bound to get a laugh out of the supersquare humans) , some amazing levels near the end, and a rather fun character editor.

-SMG
-SMG 2 ( ps. should I play 1 before 2 or does it not matter? )
It's not like you need worry about story spoilers or anything, but unless for some reason you find 2 cheaper I'm not sure why you'd play them out of order.

Is MH3 the only "put in crazy hours" RPG for the Wii? Just curious.

Xenoblade and The Last Story will probably be taking up some serious time too, but they're not out yet.

Well I wasn't being literal, but apart from the motion controlled platforms in a few levels, the single-player gameplay isn't that far removed, just some cosmetic differences.

It's been quite some time since I've played Super Paper Mario but I remember the controls being more loose than in NSMBWii. Aside from that, the level design is totally different from NSMBWii and much slower. It's not a bad thing though since it's an RPG after all.

Since you'll get a crazy list of good games, maybe if I share a list of games that were recommended to me but wasn't as amazing (must own) as I thought they would be.

I had buyer's remorse on:
-Geometry Wars Galaxies
-House of the Dead: Overkill
-Boom Blox

Those games never clicked for me. For Geometry Wars it was kind of strange since I played Retro Evolved quite a lot on Steam.

Surprise hits for me were:
-Just Dance (for both exercise alone and when there are 3 or more people)
-Let's Tap (when there are 2 or more people)

I know they might look like lame party games but they're actually quite special games. Unless you're 99% of the time alone or always with people who are quite rabid gamers, I'd say these games are a must (along with Wii Sports (Resort)) for any Wii owner.

Favorite games from my collection are (in order):
-Monster Hunter Tri
-New Super Mario Bros.
-Tatsunoko vs Capcom
-Super Mario Galaxy
-No More Heroes

Other people's mentions which I think you should certainly own eventually:
-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
-Metroid Prime Trilogy
-Trauma Center (I assume Trauma Team too but I don't have that yet)
-Resident Evil 4 (best version, can't pass on it)

I'd say the rest of the games listed in this thread (I looked at every title that I've played) aren't must-haves in my opinion and you should only buy them if you like that genre. For example: I didn't have buyer's remorse on Zack & Wiki but I didn't think it was that amazing either.

thanks for the continuing recommendations. Just got home with my new black wii. I'm in love :3! I cant believe how much fun I'm having with just throwing a damn frisbee at a dog.

Quick thoughts :

1. I'm happy, for once in my miserable old crappy life, I'm actually happy while playing videogames ( and I've only got wii sports resort ). The music, the visuals, everything gives me a sensation of " its going to be alright " xD. I was actually going to make a thread on gaf a couple of days ago asking for non-frustrating games but it seems nintendo has this chump covered.

2. It seems the motionplus isnt activated while outside games that support it. Like in the wii main menu, the cursor feels more jittery. Very minor thing though

3. It seems I'm stricken with overscan/underscan, I'm running the wii through the component cables I bought from GAME. I've never experienced this issue with anything else so I'm a little dumbfounded with regards to what to do to fix it. It looks like the top 5% of the screen is "pushed " above my tv.

Thanks again for everything gaf, I'm going to make a little list with all the games thats been added to my to buy list.

Damn, I thought this was about an In the Loop videogame for the Wii.

no you're looking the " In the Loop © - wii, working title " -thread

I'm terribly sorry if I have mislead you :(

for that I offer you a prostatemassage pro bono

Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Trauma Center: New Blood
Trauma Center: Team/Trauma Team.

I don't care if you hate motion controls (like me), you owe yourself (and Atlus) to own these for the Wii.

Well that's what I'm saying. Imagine stopping to chat every 10 seconds in NSMBW. But the platforming is just as rich, varied and 'gimmicky' as NSMBW's with lots of hidden areas and collectibles and such.

I'll pass on the prostate massage :lol

yea I know, its just a wierd way to spell " I love you Corky ", guess it might be a cultural thing

Pointer basically ignores any motion control; it's just about the relative angles of your controller and sensor bar. The only motion that comes into play is it uses the accelerometer to tell whether you're holding the wiimote face up or face down.

And yeah, different games (or even different official Wii channels) handle the pointer a bit differently, so sometimes it will seem more jittery than others.

thanks for the clarification, again no biggie really.

Geometry Wars Galaxies is great. Just make sure you have a classic controller.

I personally found the pointer shooting more intuitive.

Then again, I'm hardly abjectly awesome at this game. Just good enough to have fun.

As for WiiWare, please watch some videos of the Bit.Trip series. I only own Bit.Trip BEAT and Bit.Trip RUNNER, and they're both great.

Anyway:

Both NMHs
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
NSMBW
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Trauma Team
MH Tri
Brawl
MK Wii
RE4:Wii Edition (I don't care if you've already played another version)

Can you explain these changes? because i was thinking of replaying okami on the wii someday.:lol

The game is a horribly, blurry mess on the Wii.

More specifically, it makes my eyes hurt.

Literally.

I feel pain in my eyes from strain when playing Okami on the Wii. This has never occurred while playing any other video game ever made.

Anyway, as far as suggestions go...

1) SMG, SMG2, NSMBW
2) Twilight Princess (it's quite fun)
3) Mario Kart Wii

I hated de Blob, personally...

Dont worry. Everything will be alright. And yes, throwing discs for a dog to catch already makes everything better.
Get a friend to play along!
How i wish this game had online ping pong, so i could smash you all...

Its your first time ever with a wii? I have a 3 Years old unit and i cant see any difference in the IR pointer when using motion plus. In fact i play most games with motion plus plugged on, out of lazyness.

Mmm.. im not getting what the problem really is..
But keep in mind:

- Every component cable is the same. Unless you´re unlucky enough to buy one already broken
- Check the Wii´s settings for Widescreen settings and 480p settings (if you have a tv that support both features, that is). Leave both ON if you have the choice.
- "Wavy lines across the screen" was a problem that bashed me in the head for more than a year. I remember buying Silent Hill and almost returning it because the Wavy Lines on my tv kept me for seeing anything on dark rooms and corners.
In the end i discovered that my problem as a 3rd party power brick i had to buy. I got a better power brick and everything was solved.

Even though you said not really into motion controls, the controls are a freaking blast for the Godfather: Blackhand Edition and is my favorite sandbox game of all time.

Boy and his Blob is a gorgeous 2D platformer.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn if you're into strategy RPGs (although if you can, also grab the gamecube prequel too, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, since the stories are connected). Beware it has a steep learning curve though.
For wiiware, check out the artstyle series. Fantastic series of puzzle games, I love orbient and apparently the one that just came out, light trax, is great too.

This begs the question though: did you have a gamecube last gen? Because if not, the recommendation list is going to get even bigger...
