Obviously, we all buy consoles to play games, but besides that, what do you value the most in a game console?

Games running at 1080p@60fps, which is unrelated to the performance. You can have a weak console and games running at 60fps perfectly well.

Preferable backwards compatibility.
Overall snappiness on an OS/Interface level.
Modern sensibilities like full VRR/120hz support.

Nothing really. The games are do or die for me and the main reason to get a console is it's catalogue of games.

Nowadays 95% of the games come to PC so for me modern consoles are pointless, which is fine because that means my console budget is going towards buying the old systems I never had growing up.

Outside of games, I would say reliability and uptime. The ability to turn the thing on and immediately play a game without doing any upkeep is great.

Services and unique features...because the whole point of a console is that it's a simple custom piece of hardware to play games well.

I'm not exactly happy that 2 of them have become AMD APU boxes I can barely tell apart, but at least Nintendo popularized a hybrid form factor with unique controls.

Portability is also a bigger deal too, because graphics are mattering less each gen.

Performance related to the convenience of a console, so generally performance. Whats the point of putting your game somewhere when its a struggle-fest to even start it....Looking at you COD.

How much it stays out of my fucking way. A console should be a game player. Don't bother me with other shit unless I specifically ask for it. And even then, don't bother me with anything beyond of what I asked.

Absolutely. How well it facilitates a no bullshit experience is paramount to me.

Have a great UX that is intuitive and powerful without being overwhelming or requiring too many steps for any action.

This generation, being able to just sleep and quick resume at the drop of a hat has been amazing.

Nothing compared to PC, except the fact that whenever I do play on PS5 which is once a year, is in front of my big TV. Yes you can do that on PC, but I prefer my PC gaming in front of my high refresh rate monitors for obvious reasons.

I don't think I'll ever have a console as my main device again, but in the past, the things that mattered most to me were noise levels, the controller, good customer service including warranty, good value for money. Exclusive games or gimmicks were secondary to me.

Performance per buck, after that the 10ft interface. Everything else listed is either done poorly (media/Blu-ray players) or just crud.

When you look at the issue sideways, yeah, but all things being equal, a stronger console can run more games at that standard than a weaker console.

The controller. One sign in like xbox and boom, everything is set perfectly to use. Display and sound system, I like tech generally speaking, I'm rich but cars aren't my thing to me, I like tech more than collecting cars by a long shot.
