Overall, is the Xbox software library just...

I trade most of my games, so none of those are here with me. I just named titles that people like. Anyway, Xbox hate = unwarranted. Great graphics, great online, great exclusives, and no memory cards to buy + custom soundtracks.

That picture is so gay, it's not even funny. Maybe if Andy Dick was the guy holding MC's nuts. Maybe.

35) Splinter Cell series (which, if you say "It's also on PS2 and Gamecube.", then it implies that you've never actually played those versions)
36) Deathrow
37) Outrun 2
38) Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders
39) Thief: Deadly Shadows
40) Sid Meier's Pirates

And others.

I compliment you for taking time out to put up a great list like that. :)

But it'll be in vain since some people will close their eyes to this list and search high and low for any negative when it comes to the Xbox, sad but true.

And Outrun2 is reason enough to respect the Xbox library right there. Such a beautiful game and the mini games are incredibly fun. I still need to beat those one on one rival/against shitloads of traffic, 15 minute endurance races, then I have beaten the whole game. Best Sega traditional racer to him on a home console in years.

I've owned a PS2 since launch and I love it but I play all my online on XBL, all cross platform FPS on Xbox and all racing games on Xbox because I love the controller for FPS and racing and converselt despise the dual shock for the same genres. So my take is for what Xbox lacks in library it has spades in intangibles. Only the blind can't see it.

I don't think the XBox line up is bad at all. However, I ultimately find it rather banal. The XBox software lineup is the equivalent of brushing your teeth in the morning with your morning glory, right before you take a shit.

I find it a lot like BO3, I mean, it's a great game, but if someone stole my copy I don't think I'd actually care, any caring that would occur would be due to some mother fucker just stole something from me. I mean, I know there's a bunch of totally mint XBox games, and I know they are great, I just find it hard to care about them. I just feel that a lot of the games don't have any soul, I'm sure others feel the same way.

I think it is fair to say that the XBox is to the PS2 what Juan Gris was to Pablo Picasso.

The 360 looks to have some good shit though.

Ooh, analogies, metaphors. Let me try.

Just about every great artist has painted on the PS2's canvas, but only after it was dipped in a lake.

That would imply antialiasing.

For me, the XBox has the weakest library of the four home gaming options (XBox, PS2, Gamecube, PC). The line-up is probably superior to the Gamecube if you only have one home gaming system, but for anyone with at least two systems, the XBox falls short.

The PS2 has the broadest and deepest set of exclusives (and multi-system titles) of any of the consoles. The PC has a huge set of exclusives covering a wide array of genres (real-time strategy, turn-based strategy, simulation, MMORPG, single-player RPG, adventure, god-games, FPS, etc.). The Gamecube has all of the Nintendo published exclusives.

Meanwhile, for my tastes, all of the best XBox games are available elsewhere. Halo, KOTOR 1&2, Riddick, Fable (soon-to-be), Psychonauts, Morrowind, Sid Meier's Pirates, Splinter Cell series, Deus Ex series, Thief series, GTA series, Max Payne series, etc. are all available on the PC, with some of them also available for the PS2. So, anyone who has a PS2 or a decent PC doesn't have much need for an XBox. Of course, if you are one of those who just drools over XBox Live then XBox serves a unique purpose for you - but otherwise, it doesn't do much that can't be done elsewhere. Ninja Gaiden and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath are really still the only two XBox exclusives that really hold my interest.

Anyone who games on the PC that much can't be satisfied with PS2/Xbox versions of any game. The PC has its own set of exclusive that arguably best either platform by a great margin.

It depends on your tastes.

PC has never interested me for gaming - it just requires too much work to keep your specs current, your system clean, your peripherals compatible, tweak your settings etc. And no matter what you do something always happens to stuff up the frame rate (making platformers etc "feel" wrong).

Games like Warcraft, The Sims, lifelike driving simulators, RPGS, that require you to invest a lot of time, turn some people, like me, off. Take those out of the equation and look at what's left and how it runs and usually you're better off with a console.

The point I'm making is that to say Xbox has nothing to offer someone with a PC is ridiculous.

Even if you only wanted to play the games on Xbox that are also on PC there are plenty of reasons to prefer the Xbox versions - you don't have to configure anything, the frame rate is locked and wont change depending on what other games you play on the same system, your controller always works, you can play in the loungeroom on a TV, and you can save money.

I would never consider playing Halo or Rallisport on a PC for those exact reasons.

You can even argue that the Xbox has a greater variety of titles than the PC, which has a lot of depth in particular genres but does not do other genres very well at all.

Some people (read: me) love tweaking things. Overclocking hardware, driver versions, unlocking pipelines, screwing around with obscure cfg files to squeeze out that last drop of performance ... not really refuting your point (because I'm sure it holds merit for most people), but rather just putting a second opinion out there. Not to mention having many times the resolution of my TV.

I'm just speaking for myself. I've been playing games on the PC for a couple of decades now, even going back before the PC to the old Apple II and Commodore 64 and Vic 20. I even had the ill-fated Coleco Adam and a few games for it. So for me, running games on a computer is almost never a problem, and often comes with advantages because of all the user-created mods which can sometimes add a ton of value to a title.

I've also been playing consoles for a couple decades, going right back to the Atari 2600, Mattel Intellivision and ColecoVision.

Consoles are great for some titles. PCs are great for some titles. What I was saying was that between the PS2 and PC, just about everything is covered. Throw in the Gamecube for the Nintendo titles, and you've covered 99% of quality content. The XBox just becomes redundant and unnecessary. Now if you only have one system, then I could understand someone wanting an XBox over a Gamecube, but for someone with another system - I just don't see the value in the XBox.

I'm sure most PC users love tweaking - that's probably why RPGS and strategy games appeal to them, it uses a similar thought process. I used to be like that but after working as a systems admin for a while all tweaking/fiddling started to feel like work. Then I left the industry and my partner swears I have actively purged my brain of everything I ever knew about computers as I am such as typical asshat user now.

Getting totally off topic though.

I have a Cube and an Xbox and between the two they cover everything I want, except about 10 PS2 titles I intend to pick up second hand once I get a PS3. Hence my earlier comment about Konami and Virtua Fighter.

That's an interesting theory. I never thought of it that way before.

The Xbox library is an aquired taste in my opinion.
I have a handful of games for it but that's all, everything else is PS2.
I love "real" RPG's and the Xbox just doens't have any.
Nor does it have any platformers aside from Conker.
It has some nice FPS games and DOA but, other than that, and the handful of racing games on the system, it just doesn't have much of anything else.

Pc ports and marginally better multiplatform titles doesn't make for a great system.
It's a good system for sure, but it ain't no PS2, which if you count imports and PS1 titles has something like 13,000 games available for it.

13,000 is a lot of games.

I think the system has a very good lineup.

It's just lacking when it comes to having a great wide variety of games.

That's why the PS2 will always be the better system for me.

Shit, 90% of the PS2 library can be found in better form on the Xbox. That in itself makes it better than the rest....

First off Xbox doesn't have 13,000 titles.

Secondly, it depends on what you consider better.
For me, and many gamers that grew up with a Dual Shock, the PS2 controler is a nice exclusive feature. Playing online for free is also a great feature, even if it isn't as good as Live it's still cheaper. Having a console that lets you play some games over dial-up is nice too, and there are a handful of games that dial-up works fine for, like Golf and MMORPG's. Offering USB Mouse and Keyboard support is also a neat little added incentive, especially for FFXI. The Eye Toy is a great peripheral too that is incorporated into a few games. And many multiplatform titles only look marginally better between each console, some look better on PS2.

But I didn't buy the PS2 to play mediocre multiplatform games.
I bought it for the exclusives and the enhanced backward compatibility.
Ohh, and it was a nice free DVD player as well.

What's a real RPG for you? O_o

FFXI, FFX, FFXII, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, Shadow Hearts, Shadow Hearts 2, Shadow Hearts 3, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, Chrono Cross, SMTN, Grandia III, Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean, need I go on?

I like the more traditional based RPG's.
Sudeki the FPS/ARPG didn't cut it for me.
Niether did KOTOR the stuttering frame rate, turn based lightsaber game.

I'm not saying KOTOR was bad, it just felt like an RPG for people who don't like RPG's.

I shouldn't even have to point out what's wrong with this.

Yeah, because nothing was wrong with it.

Some games look better on Xbox. (Juiced)
Some games look marginally better on Xbox. (Bloodrayne 2)
Some games look better on PS2. (Burnout 3 & 4)

Just off the top of my head.

Except it's cute that you try to downplay improved visuals on other consoles by saying they "only look marginally better," while redundantly pointing out the scant minority of better looking multiplatform games on PS2 as a strike against the XB.

OT : I've really struggled with modern RPGs having been raised on Origin stuff, Ultima, Wasteland, Bards tale, those sort of things where a lot of the time you just run off and do your own thing, with complete control over what you want your party to be like.

FF7 / KotOR / etc etc... i enjoyed, but it didn't feel like what _i_ think an "RPG" is , more like an interactive book or something. I dunno if i personally calling these games "real" RPGs at all.

Anyways, there are plenty of good games on the Xbox.

Xbox occupies probably about 80% of my gaming time. I only use the PS2 for exclusives I want to play, which these days tend to be few and far between. On an HDTV, PS2 can look pretty ugly, and Xbox generally takes better advantage of my entertainment center setup. The superior online support, controller, and multiplatform games make Xbox a pretty easy choice most of the time. The only time I've ever known the Xbox version of something to be inferior to the PS2 version is MGS2:Substance. Infantile spark complaints aside, the triggers on the Xbox controller automatically make the Xbox version of Burnout 3 superior, IMO.

I would never sell my PS2, of course. Stuff like SMT:Nocturne, Shadow of the Colossus, the Ratchet and Sly games, and numerous other exclusives make it well worth owning, but I just notice it's not my system of choice very often outside of those games.

Wow, that's weird. Are gamers that young/am I that old? People "grew up" with the Dual Shock? Maybe that explains why so many people seem to have this irrational love for what I think is one of the worst controllers ever made. I really wish Sony would retool those analog sticks for the PS3 controller. I can't stand them in comparison to the precise Xbox and Gamecube analogs.

I remember when the Dual Shock first hit. I thought it was a nast knock-off of the N64 analog, only with the added right stick. And once I got the Dual Shock system for myself I was hugely disappointed with the feel. Shit, after going through Mario 64 and Wave Race using the amazing N64 analog, the DS just couldn't compare.

But hell, back to Xbox library fluff. I really have nothing to add that already hasn't been beat to death. Although I will say I appreciate Activision for bring the Doom 3 titles to Xbox.

My Xbox still works by the way... do I have to remind you how many times I bought a PS and a PS2? If you wanted to know how Sony got those "fake" numbers, that's exactly how. And yet you all gobble it up like a thanksgiving turkey. You continue to get led on by the evil corporation that is Sony. Let's get one thing clear here... Japan has had it in for us ever since we dropped the bomb... and I don't just mean Hiroshima... I mean the X-BOMB... and I don't mean BOMB in a bad way for MS, but in a bad way for Sony. Feeling that shit?

Maybe I don't know a great deal about much of anything, but I'm pretty sure the type of RPG's mainly featured on the PS2 (often dubbed "JRPG's") weren't the first video game role-playing games.

At this point in the generation's life cycle, the Xbox has a very respectable library with a few legs up on the PS2. The PS2 has the best library, hands down. The gamecube... has a new Zelda coming out this winter.

I disagree, not much musthave on Xbox if you compare it with PS2.

It's all a matter of genre preference.

Some people hate RPG's. There's about what, 75 PS2 games knocked out?

Some people hate shooters. There goes Halo, Halo 2, Crimson Skies, Riddick, Mech Assault series, etc.

And then there are people like me who aren't into racing games. No Gran Turismo, PGR, Rallisport Challenge, Forza, etc.

But comparing games on both systems, in the vast majority of cases, you would want the Xbox version.

Jesus. After going back and reading this thread, I realize again why I don't browse/post much in the gaming forum anymore.

WhippinSean blatantly trolling and posting horseshit.
Dick measuring manifesting as lists.
Woebedraggled allowed to post.

In an environment like this, substantive discussion of gaming is not just tough, it's IMPOSSIBLE. Where is that technology that lets me reach through the internet and shoot you idiots?

Not always. And not all cross platform games make xbox at all, thought they be few and far between. Also ps2 just slays xbox and gc in sheer number of titles overall, so my post stands.

Case of a better mulitplatform on ps2: Burnout 3

Case of a cross platform not on Xbox: Viewtiful joe, RE4.

You're a lunatic.....

There's only one game i can think of which looks and plays better on the PS2 than on the Xbox, and that's MGS2: Substance.

JRPG's have been somewhat lackluster this gen, which is why I prefer the Xbox over the PS2. Better versions of most every game, XBox Live, Halo 2, and the fucking Controller S!! Dual shock sticks are balls.

GameCube is still my fav console this gen, but that's only because I'm a fan of Zelda and a big fan of a few exclusives that GC has received thus far (Eternal Darkness, Baten Kaitos, Metroid Prime, Animal Crossing, REmake, RE4).

Those games, with the exception of Oddworld, aren't exclusive and Rayman 3 is one of the biggest disappointments this generation imo. Following the nearly-perfect Rayman 2, Rayman 3 is worse in every single way... PoP isn't really a Jump&Run imo, I would call it an Action-Adventure.

nah it just had the best hardware so anything that isnt gc or ps2 exclusive I buy for my xbox

I own 21 xbox games and not 1 is 1st party exclusive title
