Overwatch New Competitive Play System Detailed

It's a good thing for him to remind people with ranked coming up: eventually you're going to start to lose at some point, and it'll happen more often as you settle into your rank.

All I really hope for is some massive punishment for people that leave and for it to 100% never count towards you negatively if you get placed into an existing match that ends in a loss.

it isn't possible in competitive be placed in matches that have already started

I like it when people complain about a shit team when they lose and then someone else om the team gets POTG, two other people get cards, I get several gold medals, etc. Especially if they come late and pick a redundant character.

Where were ya, bro?

Basically anyone that's gonna get salty about ranks was gonna be salty about something and pass blame when they lose.

Not getting a card might not mean a lot. The number of games I've got triple gold and no card suggest that it gives out cards randomly to whomever is eligible for them, and not necessarily to those who 'did the best'. Got a three gold yesterday, 15 kill streak as 76. Potg. No card.

This isn't a MOBA it would be pretty lame to not allow stacked heroes considering there is a lot of strategy involved there and the backlash would be insane.
These aren't classes, they're individual heroes, and there's not 5-10, there's 22+.

I really hope they reconsider MMR, at least make it a private thing that no one else sees.

One of the things I love about overwatch is that it doesn't throw up things like k/d and other things that usually lead to people shaming others or bickering.

Playing LoL the community can be tough and shaming someone who does bad is a terrible thing (I've done it myself, I feel bad and try hard not to).

One of the things I loved about Overwatch is just how nice the community seems right now, you don't see too many people fighting each other or bashing someone else. This feels like it could change that for the worse.

Don't care about cosmetic rewards. What I need is a working matching system that don't put obviously much better players against lesser players. Neither steamrolling nor getting steamrolled is fun after a few minutes.

Those golden guns as are for everybody that plays ranked or the elite on top of the ladders?
Both from the sound of it. He said elite players will unlock them much faster than everyone else. Wouldn't be surprised if you get special currency at the end of a season so if you're really good you can buy a golden gun per season while everyone else will have to grind multiple seasons until they have enough to buy 1.

I still don't understand the people that "cant wait for ranked because the games will be so much better".

I bet they will feel pretty much the same, maybe with better team compositions, but with more toxicity.

Oh geez, the salt.

This is in quick play and is actually incredibly tame by normal standards

You guys want to avoid toxic talk? Usually playing Lucio or Mercy lets me avoid reading/hearing it thrown my way. What about the rest of you?

When he was giving the vague descriptions of the overtime changes and how they were making changes to assault to make it last longer and have more team fights, it made me think of what Jeff at GB was saying about what if there is Mario party hidden in Overwatch.

I'm so torn about whether I'll play a lot of competitive or not. On the one hand, I really like the idea of people not faffing about and actually playing the objective. On the other hand, I worry that everyone will just be angry and toxic all the time and that seems like the fastest way for me to never play Overwatch again.

If you don;t have atleast 4 people to group up with it's going to be fucking awful.

There are pros and cons to hero stacking from a strategy standpoint just like non stacking does.

Good, maybe I can start playing the game again. I hit the current match-making hell stage where everyone is an asshole, so I'm hoping they move their leetness to competitive so I can have fun not having to play try-hard 24/7.

I'm actually surprised by the lack of shit talking in the game, especially with it's 10mil player count.

I'm mentally preparing myself for this by playing the salt factory that is CS:GO Competitve (no way Overwatch can be worse than that...right?)

People who want to know why stacking heroes aint fun, look at tf2 comp where you're only allowed 2 of each class except for the medic and demo, which you're only allowed 1.

It's mostly done cause no one wants to see a team go 5 torbjorns, and its really not fun for anyone involved. Comp play is about showing off the highest skill ceiling possible rather then running gimmicky strategies that may net you wins against bad teams who haven't played the game long enough to know how to counter said gimmick.

Also, you're game will be able to show off its diverse cast of characters a lot more rather then seeing teams run 6 soldier 76's, so it'll be way morr fun for viewers as well.

Not a big fan of exclusive content only for top-placing players, even if it's just cosmetic (especially if it's skins).
Hope Blizzard makes them available to everybody else later on.

The people that put in the work should be recognized as such. I'm sure you'll get a participation award player icon. Let people shine if they've deserved it. Stop hating on success.

Sure, but as far as I know there's no way to really see how well each person does on the team.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that a lot of people that complain about their team being bad aren't contributing much anyway. You can tell even without seeing they did and didn't earn at the end of the match. The larger point is that anyone that wants to pass blame will do it, even if they can't see a lower ranked person on their team.

Hell, I've had a dude in public chat going "lol my team is so bad" and then we won in the end.

Why does anyone let shit talkers get to them? Laugh it off, got a "pussy boy" message while playing Zarya today on PS4, I love it. lol

Hero stacking is my only concern, there are certain setups that just zap the fun out of the game.

people will always be overestimating how their own actions contribute to their team's losses. people often blame external factors like poor matchmaking, and most often, someone else on their own team. it's just a classic scrub mentality.

I don't hate on success. I just don't like big stuff like skins being locked away to a handful of players.
Even very successful players won't get them.
