Pach-Attack: E3 Nintendo Assumptions.

Spreading more misinformation isn't exactly the best way to stay professional. If this guy did the same thing with Sony or Microsoft, he'd be fired immediately for hurting their company's client.

I just don't get that this guy is as serious as people seem to take him. He's like that old guy who sits on his porch and tells you stories you know aren't true, cries about how Freemasons and Cubans are running the country, and then spends 5 minutes telling vaguely racist/classist anecdotes like some Libertarian ex-hippie who's been lost in his own little world in the Hollywood hills for 40 years.

Because he's a professional with a platform? This isn't a random youtuber in his room talking shit.

Ok guys, I think we're overreacting here a bit
I didn't see him being as negative as you're all making it out to be

Thing is, when he's not in his porch, this old guy's day job is getting Freemasons to invest in Cuba. Or something. I suck at analogies.

Long and the short of it, Pachter's job is getting people to buy into companies, and that includes investing into videogame companies. He actively works in this industry, and advises people on what shares to buy in what company. If he can't be bothered to do a little background reading, that doesn't just make him seem ill informed when he's spouting off, it makes you wonder just what he's telling people investing in videogame companies.

I agree. I'm baffled by the tone of some reactions here. I thought his comments were pretty innocuous.

His perspective is that off a financial analyst: "Fans will probably enjoy Nintendo's E3 showing, but it will likely do little to alter the company's trajectory".

I'm super pumped for E3, but I have no expectations for Nintendo to be able to achieve a magical turnaround in the next 6-12 months.

But this will be true for Sony and MS as well. E3 won't suddenly take Sony off the clif of ruin and won't make MSFT corp investors see what a great device the xb1 is.

I can only talk for myself here, but I'm not saying he's negative, I'm saying he doesn't know shit about anything and can't bother to look stuff up.

i.e. hardly professional, should frankly be out of a job by this point.

We don't get much discussion in these threads about his work at Wedbush, probably because no one here knows and most probably don't care. It's too much fun to talk about his talking head videos, which are virtually indistinguishable from some guy talking shit on youtube because the guy has a sense of humor and is apparently very successful at trolling internet forum users. We have no clue what kind of investment advice he's giving people who actually pay for his services. As far as most of his videos are concerned, he's just rattling off an entertaining op-ed for a Game Journalism website where he mostly discusses existing trends and sales peppered with smart ass cracks at people that he knows damn well are watching, and people here act like they're inside his head and reading his business emails.

There's no arguing that this guy has said some stupid shit before, but this video was harmless and even complimentary to Nintendo in some respects, so I just find some of the reactions in here strange.

I had to stop listening to this guy.

"Their big event is a tournament, what is it, Smash Brothers? But they are playing the old one." (Guy off-camera corrects him.) "No it's the new one? That's weird. That's really strange. I thought they were playing the old one."

Seconds later: "I don't think fans will be able to play it inside"

Can he just give me his E3 pass now?

This guy is completely out of touch. It's one thing to be critical of Nintendo, but it's another to make such broad and misinformed assumptions based on nothing more than your personal biases towards them. He had no clue what Nintendo had planned for this E3 outside of what he assumed was just another direct, so it's clear he didn't even bother to read Nintendo's press releases; yet he's making public statements on it...

It's a logical assumption that the Smash Bros tournament uses Brawl. I mean, how they can have a tournament for a game no one has played before?!

Eeeeexcept for the part where Nintendo has explicitly stated in every piece of promotional material about the tournament that they're playing SSB4... But sure.

I was contemplating this video with add block enabled or not even watching it at all.
After readying quite a few impressions in the thread I decided to not even give him a click.

Same old tired shit over and over again.
Really starting to wonder why people keep giving this guy any attention at all.
It's just a one trick pony and we all keep falling for it it seems.

I can't tell who's saltier, some of these comments or Pachter.

Rabidly defending Nintendo on an internet forum while not buying Nintendo products is exactly the point being missed.

You don't need to even like Nintendo's product to call him on his BS.
I guess it's ok to make shit up if you're shitting on Nintendo amirite?

So if we do buy Nintendo product we can carry on with the criticism? Goodo.

It's a logical assumption that the Smash Bros tournament uses Brawl. I mean, how they can have a tournament for a game no one has played before?!
Since they're flying them out to the tournament I'm sure they've given them some advance time with the game. This is a similar situation to the first International tournament for Dota 2.

Pachter's video is about Nintendo at E3. It's literally titled "Pach Attack: Nintendo E3 Predictions." How would knowing about the Smash event not be relevant to that discussion? Why should he not spend a few minutes researching what the company says they're gonna do at E3 before making a video like that?

Am...am I missing something here?

No, no your not, just comments that will make you lose brain cells.

He shouldn't assume out of nothing, he's an analyst, he should analyse facts, however it seems he can't be bothered to reasearch facts.

I just find it worthy of a Pachter thread that someone that claims to not be interested in present Nintendo and doesn't follow the news about it is almost the top poster in a thread about Nintendo. Almost Pachter-like.

Gotta laugh at everyone taking Pachter so seriously. If you think he is some kind of fortune teller, or is able to accurately predict specifics of press conferences, you must be from another planet. He's said on numerous occasions his job is to understand the business direction of the publishers, so its pretty obvious that his E3 prediction stuff is just fun speculation that everyone else here enjoys engaging in.

But this will be true for Sony and MS as well. E3 won't suddenly take Sony off the clif of ruin and won't make MSFT corp investors see what a great device the xb1 is.
But their hardware sales are in much better shape, especially when you consider them a multi-platform ecosystem in competition with Nintendo.

His comment wasn't "Nintendo won't have fun games" it was "Nintendo won't show anything that will dramatically alter their financial fortunes".

Have you people seen Pachter's house? Have you seen his wife? He's pretty good at this.

No...? 'Cause that would kinda be creepy if I had..

--

I don't know, he doesn't seem any saltier than usual, I think he's said worse in the past. I guess it's all about perspective. No real insight though apart from the guesstimation of the Mario Kart numbers moving Wii U's and how much it will sell over all.

Oh and your second post makes no sense since you specifically go at Nintendo for not using an annoying Youtuber but the others get a free pass just because it's live?

Was just trying to be positive and suggest how Nintendo could maybe reach more people...because lets face it the casual teen audience is not listening.

I cant stand you tubers (except drift0r - I like COD), but they are popular amongst my kids and their friends (its anecdotal In know), and can get that demographic interested in games they would not consider normally. It was not a suggestion for E3 or direct, just they should have more angles to show their games...

Anyway, why anyone would try and suggest changes for Nintendo is just going to get shot down, they will continue to do what they have done....and I cant see any changes...

Anyway, just dropped into this thread to say not everyone dislikes Pachter and some agree with him, but whateer he says wont make any difference to WiiU sales projections...

We know that they will show their NFP thing, that has as a main scope to improve their financial fortuness.

Well...

They did a skit with mega64, they're doing a partnership thing with YouTube lets players, they're streaming live ssb4 footage on twitch and they're making it easier to share game content on miiverse and other social media. They're looking into transmedia with their IPs. Mario Kart 8 has great online.

Nintendo acts like a dinosaur most of the time, but they are definitely paying attention to how they could potentionally fix themselves through popular media. TV shows, YouTube/Twitch footage, figurines.

What's-his-face didn't talk about that, but this year, Nintendo's strategy is likely to be less archaic.

Oh! Oh! I know this one!

You should stop going to strawmanNeogaf.com and try neogaf.com for a while.
Suggesting change for Nintendo or Sony or MSFT (or heck Konami, even EA!) won't get you shut down.
What will get you shut down is if your suggestion is ridiculous, old or some kind of batshit insane idea (and the last one will still be discussed).
Nintendo going 3rd party is a scenario that's older than the Dreamcast and the mobile suggestion is older than CoD MW2.
Having the same discussion over and over again is not something we do on a daily basis.

Yeah, that's a fictional movie about a fictional tournament. SMB3 was the only real thing about that.

I don't think anyone has ever held a REAL tournament with a game no one has played before. Personally, I'd love the tournament to be using Brawl, just to see how many meltdowns there would be from people who entered the tournament thinking it would be the new one. lol

All I hear is "WAAAAAAAAAAAH! NINTENDO NEVER DOES WHAT I THINK THEY SHOULD!"

"There's nothing really exciting at these things. They'll talk about sales (even though they don't do that in Directs)"

Why is this guy paid to voice his bullshit again?

And then he just rails on Nintendo fans, probably because he gets called out on his shit all the time.

Oh, and more port begging for Nintendo games on other systems.

Oh. My Fucking. God. HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT'S HAPPENING AT E3 AND HE'S ALLOWED TO DO THIS?!

My guess is he has a better idea than YOU and YES he is allowed as you are to say anything he thinks.

I almost saw this as a parody. The fact that he didn't even know the new Smash game was being played in the tournament? Ridiculous.

It was a joke and a reference that Nintendo could do again since it was their game. :P

And I just remembered 5 seconds ago that Gamestop had a midnight tournament for Brawl.

And no one seriously thinks that it will improve their situation
Look at ATVI to see how it can go, it certainly helped them.
I guess Pach-Attack is good enough, the name itself is self-indulgent isn't it?

EDIT: i didn't get the joke sorry

I don't want to hear a criticism about any show you could watch on TV if you can't make one that's better.
same goes for games, you aren't allowed to criticize any game until you make better games.

It's a pretty logical assumption to make, especially since all this gaming stuff is a fun side gig for him.
