"The SHIFT director postponed my interview about GAF. Due to the extraordinary interest, the documentary will be expanded to include more POV"

"It is clear the creators of the documentary about NeoGAF intend to be fair and balanced. I intend to talk about the intelligence AND vitriol"

Ok now he use us to fuel his massive ego.
The least interesting GAF user is interviewed for a documentary....yeah.
And for all his talk about intelligence he didn't show much here.

Do you have links to these expert quotes? I've never seen any mention 60fps.
Anyhow, from a different thread...

Haha, Doug is actually who I'm referring to. He mentions it in the Great Framerate Debate lecture.

When I was referring to the eye not seeing any changes I was talking about anything significant, I just worded the post badly. Of course you can see beyond, but I think you gain very little.

On Tuesday, I'm taping a show dedicated to how GAFfers are (mostly) smart and are (mostly) assholes. It should be fun.

Yes, I always wonder what will set GAF off, and this was truly an innocent comment. To be honest with you, I have no idea how many frames per second the human eye can process, am pretty sure it's more than 60 fps, since we can all see the difference between 30 and 60, but I have no clue if we can see more than 120 fps, or if we can even see that. I was merely explaining to Cliff Edwards that four times the processing power would make the machine capable of rendering at that speed. I have no idea what the games will look like, which features they will incorporate, but my guess is that the specs will be sufficiently powerful that developers won't be particularly constrained from getting the look and feel that they desire. As one commenter pointed out, PC games have once again moved past console games, and each new generation of consoles allows the consoles to partially catch up.

GAF usually reacts if I comment on technical specifications, charging more money for anything, or make any comment that has the word "Nintendo" in it. To answer your question, I always presume that if I talk about any of these topics, GAF will go ballistic.

And as you pointed out, I'm amazed at the asshole factor on this website. The asshole/civil ratio must be 2:1 or more.

Am I the only one who loves this man?

I'll tell you why I do not like him (not personally, I don't know him or care to, but why I don't like the attention he gets on gaf or from the industry) and it's because he is often very wrong, and this narrative he is trying to spin is the antithesis of my hopes for the industry. It fucking bothers me that the guy has such a sought-after opinion with games press, because I think he actually does have some influence, and it's skewing the dialog in an undesirable direction. The guy is not a gamer, he does not have gamers' best interests in mind, and he is so often demonstrably full of shit. Yet he has this outlet to peddle it. It bothers me.

Although, I guess sometimes he's alright. Even right, sometimes.

But too often wrong to have the attention he gets. Maybe he is really fantastic at his job and worth every penny of his time for everything else he does... but when he starts going on gaming shows and interviewing about the day to day in the industry, prognosticating, he's out of his element. And has demonstrated this repeatedly.

Guys, when I ran the DMC4 benchmark on default settings I got 1000 FPS for like 2 seconds and 700 for the rest of the test, is my PC from the future. It did not look hyperrealistic to me at all.

My sims 3 intro shows 4000 FPS in fraps. Your PC is already old

Pachter is making a fool out of you guys and you don't even realize it. Please tell me that somebody in this thread has already explained what hyperrealism is.

PS3 games still look incredible, even compared to PC games. I think most people are expecting "next gen" to mean some graphical leap - but I'm worried it's going to become all about gimmicky peripherals.

I pretty much expect PS4 to be a high end gaming PC, so we won't see anything drastically more impressive than say crysis 3 for a while. I'm sure there are many like myself who bought a gaming PC recently - and justifying another big $500-600 purchase that will give you a similar experience will be hard.

UNLESS

1) there are some killer ps4 exclusives that will release day 1 with the console

or

2) backwards compatability. though this is a long shot, it would be huge. There are still many games being made for ps3 and many ps3 users have older, non-slim models which are about to take a s**t (mine included). If there was ps3 backwards compatability in ps4, it would be a no-brainer day 1 purchase for me (and if they added some upscaling, that would make the deal even sweeter).

Interestingly, what would this look like for unreal engine 4?
