Ot: there aren't even any displays right now that can display 240 fps, 95 percent of tvs (yes including those so called 100 hz tvs) will only accept 60 fps input, 3d tvs accept and display 120 fps. 90 percent of computer monitors only operate at 60hz.

Also fps on its own is a meaningless metric, so his statement was meaningless as well.


And lastly, no pachter, Gaf isn't predominantly smart (just look at any hardware or xbox vs ps3 thread) , you don't have to lick our balls in an attempt to avoid internet rage directed at you. It's as unbecoming as it is insincere.

(3840*2160)/(1920*1080) = 4 times more pixels - if the chip can basically split the pixels into like 4 compartments somehow...240/4 = 60fps.. [ he did mention games though... and I doubt this would work for gaming ].

Otherwise...maybe for some sort of special 3D?

Although "capable of rendering games at 240fps" just seems deceitful. He ought to know no one expects games that fast but I wonder if there is a special reason he's referring to that number.. I would hope it's not a silly reason.

DmC does not look like a PS2 game. DmC runs at over 200 fps on a modest modern PC.

I find it totally feasible that the new hardware could run current gen IQ at 240fps. I wouldn't doubt if if some source told him this was the case.

Excuse me? I am pretty sure a PC can run Crysis 3 with console-grade levels of detail and -resolution at 240fps.

We could technically see 120fps for 3D games no? But what's even the point of 240?

Maybe it isn't all that stupid a suggestion at all (even if it was made only illustratively and without knowing much about visual perception).

There's at least one potential application for 240FPS: consider four-person local multiplayer - given suitable glasses you could have four people playing the same game on the same screen in the same room and each seeing different things on the single screen and each at 60 FPS.

Like split-screen except without being able to see what the other guys are up to.

Some great potential in that.
