My bandwidth is too valuable to waste on stuff I don't give a shit about.
Sure, I'll turn it off in places like GAF where the ads are hardly bothersome and I don't mind helping, but stuff like the IGN ads or banner ads that cover a part of the screen and keep playing videos like in Eventhubs can fuck off.
When I watch TV, I can switch channels during commercial breaks. If walking on the street, I can just completely ignore posters and handouts. Why the fuck is the internet this special place where I HAVE to give you my attention?
Unlike television channels, websites don't get a cut of what you pay for your internet service. Additionally, when you change the channel you are no longer viewing that broadcast, so how about you take the same approach, and don't use websites that have ads on them that bother you? I disagree with enjoying content but denying the creators the right to get paid for it. I think IGN has some of the worst fucking ads of all time plaguing their website so I don't go there. I don't visit websites I don't like or agree with, so I don't have to worry about them getting money from me.
YouTube video ads can be annoying but I watch them because the people I'm watching on YouTube entertain me, are informative and helpful, or serve as a positive impact on my life and they deserve to be paid for their time and effort.
There are some really fucking awful and irrelevant ads on NeoGAF but I put up with them. Why? Because in order for me to continuing to participate in the greatest community on the internet, WrestleGAF, the site has to stay operational. How does it do that? With money.
