Pacific Rim |OT| Apocalypse Never

So my Shinkawa poster just arrived (thank you so much, Fantomex!) and I'll post pics of it later, but I have a pressing question for you guys:

I'm going to FanExpo Canada in Toronto next month, and Ron Perlman's going to be there. Should I get him to sign my poster, or keep it as-is? Either way it's going up framed on my wall, I just want to get opinions as to whether or not a signature would sully its look or not.
Yeah, mine arrived last week as well. He really did those of in Canada a favor by sending those out, I am eternally grateful.

GET THAT SIGNATURE! If you didn't want to get him to sign the Yoji Shinkawa poster, maybe purchase a Hellboy poster or something? Either way, get his signature!

Have fun. :)

Amazing.

Man, the fan and request artwork for this movie has been awesome. I wish I had an empty hallway or something where I could hang a couple of those posters. Stunning stuff, and timeless. It's always Gipsy Danger though, give me Crimson Typhoon!

Wow, is that Katsuya Terada as in old-school Zelda instruction manual art Katsuya Terada??

And the movie's not out in Japan yet, eh?

I just saw that there are three Pacific Rim-based themes up for grabs for PS3 on Playstation Network.

Two static and one dynamic. Pretty decent, especially since they're free.

She killed it in her scenes, it's rare to see a scene with a kid crying and not look annoying.

she conveyed fear and desperation and wonder
when she saw Coyote Tango
, so well. I was REALLY impressed.

Are you serious?

Fuck no.

She was completely awful.

She was the primary reason I fucking hated
Mako's flashback sequences.

Just got back, saw it with the kids. Pretty damn fun. Got amped in that one scene, you know the one. IMAX 3D didn't seem worth it imo since it was hard to make out the action most of the time except for the main battle (which was epic.) Hope there's a sequel.

I totally agree. Normally I hate little kids trying to do something like that.

Saw it in IMAX 3D in Bangkok. I liked it a lot, but man, that main character had the worst actor ever. This film would have gone from good to great with a talented and charming lead. This guy was terrible. The dialogue was bad, but the other actors pulled it off, like they were in on the joke. The lead felt like he was totally oblivious to the tone of the film. 3/5.

Saw it today and I have mixed feelings.

The action had some brilliant stand-out moments that will linger long in the memory, but the reality is that it suffers from a Transformers-style lack of clarity during some of the more intense sections. Which is a pity, because I loved some of the robot design (despite my earlier reservations) and all the references to anime (
tit guns, rocket elbows etc...all that was missing was a detaching rocket powered fist...maybe in the sequel
). The kaiju were disappointingly bland, but I did appreciate that they were all unique so we got to see some
flying monsters, knife-head monsters
etc.

The story again was pleasingly daft, and several scenes/elements reminded me of Robot Jox. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, but the parallels between both films is kind of weird (
although Robot Jox did have a rocket powered fist, so it's immediately the better of the two
).

I guess my main gripe was the lack of clarity during some of the action. I was actually sitting there thinking that it would have been better if they'd slowed them down a bit. Put them in rubber suits. I dunno. I feel bad for nit-picking because I loved the film as a whole and I kinda want to go see it again, buy the action figures and hope for a sequel.

And Del Toro is also my #1 nerd hero of all time confirmed.

I've seen the movie today and it was the first time in years that i felt really entertained by a movie. The battle scene were amazing, i wanted to shout at the screen and tell Gipsy Danger to beat it harder and harder.
The plot was a-ok, you can't pretend some deep shit here, but at least it was coherent and the funny scenes where actually funny.
I don't know about the whole acting thing, in italy the dubbers are real actors with a big theatrical curriculum on their shoulders and they helped where it was needed.

Also as someone else mentioned before, at first i wasn't sold by the robot's and kajiu's design, but they grow on me minute by minute

You've got to be kidding me... Pacific Rim has some of the best framed and "shot" action I've seen in the past few years. There was no point where I was confused at what was going on. Did you watch it in IMAX or on a regular screen? I'm wondering if the scale can really mess with how well you can follow the action. (I watched it on a regular screen and it was super easy to follow, I figure that the larger scale makes it easy to lose track of the action)

Nope, just a regular screen and in 2D. There were too many close shots for my liking, which is a personal bugbear. And the effects were occasionally a bit too fussy when things got frantic, especially when fighting some of the more elaborate kaiju.

As I said I really enjoyed the film as a whole and feel bad for nit-picking something I enjoyed so much, but at the same time I can't exactly say it was perfect either.

I saw it in Real3D, and it definately was hard to follow at times. Especially when compared to the shots in the trailers, the 3D version's quality was subpar.

When I got back from the theater I immediately watched some trailers and was amazed at the amount of details on the mechs and kaijus I never saw on the big screen.

This fits quite well as an avatar, thanks. Still think that Nintendo should use this guy's artstyle for a new Zelda game, his Zelda artworks are godly.

edit: I made an avatar from Shinkawa's art too, if anyone wants it.

Just saw this tonight and was pleasantly surprised. Del Toro did justice to the mecha/monster genre, but I wished they fleshed out the background of the Kaiju a bit more and showed some more of the other Jaegers.

You must have a really shitty movie theater then, or IMAX is far more detailed.

I was blown away how good 3D was in this film.

Pre-Orders for Gipsy Danger on Side Show Collectibles. $399.99. May 2014.

Bought :)

Gipsy Danger

Are people going to buy all 4 statuettes that have been announced so far?
Has anyone here ever used their monthly payment plans before?
I want these statuettes so badly, I have never bough anything like this before, not so if I can afford to buy each one at full price each month.

I finally got around to seeing this on Friday, it was fantastic.

Corny at times and predictable, but engaging, charming and awesome action. Slight cringe at the "it's analog!!" moment. The robot using a sword was silly, but awesome.

I think a good way to sum up the movie is as a "good version of transformers".
