Painkiller is the most metal song/video ever

I'm not even a huge Judas Priest fan, but check this shit out:

First time I heard this song, which shamefully was only a few years ago, I knew that was it. Peak metal, it will never be topped. Non-stop intensity, fucking amazing guitar solos that just keep coming, the wide angle over-exposed b&w video, Rob Halford staring into the camera. I don't care how much goat blood you put in your video, you're not gonna come close.

This song is so metal is should be in the periodic table of elements.

Judas Priest will always have respect in the metal crowd but most/peak metal video ever?

Meh.

The first time I heard the guitar solo in Painkiller I was like 13, and my ears MELTED (with delight) ... absolutely bonkers, and 100% one of the best metal songs/videos of all time.

Bleed by Meshuggah also blew my mind in 2008, but for different reasons, mostly the drums. Still, not even in the same tier/category as Judas Priest, but worth mentioning for the sake of nostalgia :

Why is this the only JP song I've ever heard

I never knew Rod Stewart could shred.

Rob Halfords solo band 'Halford' is just Judas Priest renamed, some really cool stuff. Cyberworld is a cool song and reflects a lot on todays digital world

Judas Priest has grown on me over the years, tho I still prefer Iron Maiden. Still, gotta respect that double bass. Nicko thinks it’s for weak drummers or something but as a drummer, that’s stupid.

As a drummer and also a huge maiden fanboy I really like nicko but his drumming annoys me sometimes. Especially the new stuff. I would have loved to see what they would of been like if Clive stuck around.

He gets too busy for my tastes. I saw them in September and he’s still a beast in his late 60s but I feel like Clive’s style is closer to what I like to play. Listen to Hallowed be Thy Name with Clive in like 82 or 83 and compare to how Nicko plays it and I much prefer Clive’s version.

And with the double bass, yeah I can get one foot going pretty fast consistently but it just sounds like ghost notes vs being able to slam it down with both feet with power...I don’t know why he’s against it. In any case, he’s better than Lars

Ya I'm not sure why he's against it either. Maybe because hes never needed it. Nicko's crowning achievement imo is Somewhere in time. The drumming on that album is insane and the fact he does it with one pedal is even more spectacular. Now a days he seems to fall into the same groove with the same fills consistantly. Which could also be because steve Harris lost his ability to write short fast kick ass metal tunes and seems to fall into these long drawn out epics all the time. And yes he's better than Lars but to be honest that's not really saying much lol

Somewhere in Time I can’t even keep up with without taking breaks unless I’m keeping up with daily practice, stamina falls off fast and those songs can be long and complicated.
