PAINKILLER returns in 2025 by Saber interactive

Saber?! Demonic swarm technology??

Finally, a real Doom game 😁
(Liked the 1st, hated Eternal, let's see how the Dark ages will fare).

This looks like a "proper" fps, a - wait for it - R E T U R N T O F O R M if you will without the platforming and color coded pick up bullshit.

Hope it will turn out to be good

Interesting that it's been farmed out to Saber, they've been on a bit of a hot streak lately, even World War Z became dope in the end.

They're a publisher (whatever that means these days...) and are license-rescuing this alongside 3DRealms (which is also publisher'ish); neither are actually developing the game.

Anshar Studios is developing this new Painkiller. Anshar made Gamedec and I think some VR stuff and also did co-dev work on a bunch of well-known games.

Saber?! Demonic swarm technology??

It's a different developer, as mentioned above. Saber might be lending them Swarm, possibly, but more likely it's a custom engine or Unity/Unreal project? Not sure if Anshar has named its engine yet.

I don't remember the weapons and combat feeling particularly good
You remember wrong then, it was at the time one of the wildest fps ever.
They had a stake launcher that would nail enemies to walls. For that weapon only the game is legendary.

Yes everybody remembers that cool gimmick.

Which was promptly copied over by better games (HL2 and FEAR come to mind).

Then you remember that painkiller combat had some cool things going for it, which makes your first statement invalid.

having cool ideas is not the same as having good gunplay.

the weapons can have interesting ideas, and at the same time feel bad to actually use.

painkiller specifically had really weak gunmodel animations, and especially the steak gun felt weird. not only was the animation kinda weak, but also it's very clearly visible that the actual projectile doesn't come out of your gun, but out of the center of your camera view.

the accompanying sound effect while shooting it also doesn't sound all that amazing. it's just a little thud sound.

So, I loved blasting with the shotgun and going demon time.

I played a couple of these back in the day, they were fun shooters but once i had completed them or played most of the game, i stopped or i never replayed them, good for straight up FPS fun though.

So, is it like a reboot of the original Painkiller from 2004? Does it feature Daniel as the main character who wants to reunite with Catherine?

Day 1! Painkiller was my first PC shooter, I didn't get a PC until I bought a Dell XPS lol. This game rocked, I had an Altec Lansing 5.1 surround sound, this and Doom 3 when it came out where on constantly.

I lost all of my excitement about it when I saw what is the devs vision for this game (PvE co-op shooter with annoying characters). There has been some gameplays making the rounds online and all of them feel really souless and not even close to original Painkiller. Here's one of the examples

Oh yeah, that looks like Doom Eternal rip-off with a DMC combo meter. How do you make an FPS game with more bounce pads per second than a Sonic game? Who is this for?
