Doesn't fit the oldshool artstyle of Painkiller. Waste of resources. A typical strategy by the graphics card market / developers to create demand, because how else are they going to sell your their next big 2000 dollar upgrade? Diminishing returns are already a reality, so all of this isn't needed, and IMHO, all the attempts to justify such visual trickery are pretty cringeworthy.

Again this narrative from a fan project with 0$ costs. So fucking pathetic. Don't like it? Nobody gives a shit.

I think it surprisingly fits aside from a few cases where the lighting get butchered and the environments get too bright.

I like the weapons being reflective now, but environments look like crap to me. Trying to retrofit realistic lighting and materials rarely works in old games and just ruins the artstyle as far as I'm concerned. I thought quake 2 RTX also looked like a mess.

this was my fav game when it came out.
Finished it many times over and on trauma difficulty too.

If I remember correctly, the OG release did not had specular lighting. The "shiny statues" were added with updated engine when booh dlc came out. That modified the base game too.

The RTX seems way too dark. The game is fully static, so not sure it's the best fit but shading all the physical objects looks good now

wtf are those materials? Modder bros never seen a granite/stone/marble flooring ?

or this... they need to add some lights there

Or textures here? Again, where did the grout go? Where did the granite/marble go?

bugaga also praises this. Bro ever seen grout before ?!

but it's only a problem with AI generated textures

Honestly I vastly prefer the OG one there. RTX make the art style very wrong, like a project made in Maya and left unfinished.

Ok are you retarded, deaf or do you watch videos without sound? He literally talks about how these things need adjusting. And mod creator in the comments also talks about it under the video, it can be user adjusted.

You didn't read my post? Look at the bottom of it.
I mention it's the AI generated textures. I know

Gee, that's strange. As an OG Painkiller fan, all I was thinking was "wow, this is perfect, and it's basically how we imagined the game looked back then."

*shrug*

You must be fucking blind then. Looks great and fits well with the metal/gloomy artstyle. Stop being a sourpuss.

I mean, it's amusing at some level to see what they can do, but these RTX reworks are way too gung ho to kick the original art style to the curb. I've literally never wanted to actually replay any of these games this way. In a way, it reminds me of when I was like 11 years old and thought playing SNES games with the SuperEagle filter was an improvement.

Visuals aged poorly and now it looks dated with nicer lighting and exaggerated pom or tessellated materials. On a different note Serious Sam > Painkiller.

these mods almost always end up butchering original art.
that idiot bagusta basically creating a case against what he tries to evangelize each time.
