So in short, mom screwed up big time. She concocted the entire thing EDIT: To be clear, by the entire thing I mean the evidence bag.

She will not be charged because in New York it is not a crime to fabricate evidence that hasn't been formally introduced into a hearing.

In a stunning revelation, the attorney for the woman who has accused Blackhawks star Patrick Kane of sexual assault said that the rape kit evidence bag that’s so critical to the case has been tampered with, and he’s called for an independent investigation into how that came to happen.

At a press conference in Buffalo on Wednesday, attorney Thomas Eoannou presented the rape kit evidence bag and showed that it had been ripped open. It was anonymously left on the doorstep of the accuser’s mother’s home on Tuesday, Eoannou said. The evidence bag was confirmed to be the authentic, he said.

“It’s been tampered with,” Eoannou said.

“I have great concerns with what’s going on here. That’s why we’re calling for an independent investigation by a separate law enforcement agency.”

This is crazy. For what it's worth Patrick Kane is now in training camp with the Blackhawks.

So this happened in police custody, right? Evidence should stay police premises.

That's pretty crazy.

It was tampered with and stolen then? I mean the hospital/police don't just leave those things on doorsteps do they?

The accusers attorney believes that it was done by a good Samaritan that found the evidence in the trash.

Confused. Was the bag left as a threat? Or was it left to expose the fact it had been tampered with and thrown away?
 
What if someone who knew it was wrong that someone did that left it at the doorstep to let them know it was tampered with, kind of like a whistleblower?
 
Holy shit. My immediate reaction to this is that this would be one of those locked threads because it's just so disgusting.

Starting to think it's the latter. It would have been much more convenient for Kane if the rape kit had simply "gone missing"
 
There's something screwy going on with this case. Kane should be suspended when a ongoing investigation is going on. He played last night in a preseason game.

Seriously, who? It sure doesn't sound like anyone on Patrick Kane's side would have done or that it was put there to make it point. It sounds like it ended up thrown away and another cop didn't like and it exposed what happened without exposing themself.

The conference did not make any attempt to point accusations in any sort of general motive or direction.

As a spectator, you do the math and a threat seems to be the likely outcome.

A threat doesn't seem likely to me. What good would threatening them with an evidence bag do? Makes more sense that someone wanted the fact that the evidence was tampered with to get heavy news coverage.

I assume he meant from a PR perspective for the team. Same reason EA took him off the cover of their game without him being charged. If he meant why is someone not charged with a crime allowed to live their life, then I don't have an answer for that.
