Paul Tassi: Marathon needs to be in the top 5 NPD sales for the year, to be a 'success'

Forget game war, console war whatever the name is:

- If a game needs so MUCH sales to be considered a success... there is something VERY wrong with game development. It's just like the TWO HOUR AC Shadow credits.

With GTA6 out of the picture, Marathon will take #1. Unless Sony shadow drops Concord 2 on us.

It's barely a game, it's a MP mode with a few maps.

Someone definitely bungled this project. (much like a certain other GAAS Sony game that shall not be named)

So if Marathon bombs that means it's up to the Gummy Bears game to save Bungie?

Are you telling me that engagement numbers are not a good metric for success, Mr Tassi? Sales are REQUIRED for a game to succeed???

But seriously, this game will be a mega flop and I couldn't care less. Stick with what you know, and don't chase trends for fucks sake. I'm hoping this is a monumental flop.

Is there anything indicating that the game is going to have good sales? I have been hearing only bad responses so far.

Christ it never even occurred to me that the reason it wasn't shown on that recent stream is because it was busy being audited out the asshole :messenger_tears_of_joy:

This shit is so toasted

I have clue what the masses like and no clue if this will sell; but if I had to guess I'd think plenty of people will buy it. Its Bungie. If it actually bombs that would be 10,000x worse than Concord. Surely it will do fine.

Regardless of how you feel about him, you shouldn't have to watch him or read his content to come to the same conclusions. Things are not looking good for Marathon, and the whole art plagiarism thing couldn't have come at a worse time for them. I'd love to see them turn this around, but unless they delay, I really don't see them doing much by a September release. This entire situation is just really sad. I think that even if Bungie fans come to the rescue that it won't really do much to appease the higher ups, stakeholders, investors, etc.

Paul tassi is a terrible writer and a terrible journalist. He's a grifter that uses headlines to drive traffic because he knows he's a failure of a journalist and that no one wants to read nor endure his slop. Live look at paul everyday he wakes up.

Outside of buying Bungie I did not get the impression there was a ton of resources put into this game? Am I wrong, why is the cost of this game being assumed to be so high?

I had assumed it was just one of the teams at Bungie working on it for three or so years.

300 out of the 850 employees at Bungie are working on it.

No idea about the budget, but they're not going all-in.

Man but what if it's close... like right at the end of the year it's #5 but #6 is only one unit behind and then some Bungie-hater buys two copies of #6 and then #6 is actually #5 for the year and Marathon is a failure? Is that even legal or can you go to jail?
