SAVANNAH, Ga. -- A civil and human rights organization founded by Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr., has found evidence of systemic racial discrimination and harassment by Paula Deen.

The Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and it's attorney, Robert Patillo, traveled to Savannah to investigate and interview employees of Deen's food conglomerate.

According to Robert Patillo, who interviewed several current and former employees, a family member consistently referred to a black cook as "my little monkey"; a black male employee who threatened to go to EEOC with complaints of discrimination was told "you don't have any civil rights here" by Deen's brother; that whites are routinely paid more and promoted sooner than blacks; that until recently a black women who for years helped Deen create her recipes and taught her to cook was paid less than $10.00 per hour; that Deen preferred white and light skinned blacks to work with customers and relegating darker blacks to back-of-the-house operations; that blacks are reluctant to speak openly about working conditions due to fears of retaliation from Deen.

Attorney Janice L. Mathis, VP of Rainbow PUSH indicates that "these reports seem to indicate systemic discrimination and exclusion and are inconsistent with Deen's statements. The allegations are credible in the sense that they corroborate each other. Unfortunately, there are still pockets of culture in the South that persist in unenlightened attitudes and practices."

Just days after Deen confessed to and apologized for making racially offensive comments about African-Americans, the Food Network announced they would not be renewing her contract, which is set to expire at the end of June.

Great work by the coalition.

Food Network is going to have a helluva time finding another fat obnoxious southern woman who makes disgusting food.

Guy Fieri would be halfway there?

I was willing to let the use of the "N-WORD" go. I don't know a single person who hasn't used it in some context. But context does matter. But on the other hand if she said it years ago it is what it is.

But this shit right here? This shit right here? This is fuuuucked up.

Honestly not surprised by her fuckery, this whole controversy so far, her fake apology and now this little tid bit.
And Lol @ that Tolken Pic. Mess

my thoughts exactly. I thought this was a once-off, resurfaced youtube video or something. Turns out it's systematic actual discrimination. Her money needs to dry up. Just wow.

Paula Deen is an awful person who made an awful TV show and I'm glad her awfulness has gotten her shitcanned.

But more importantly, I saw Alton Brown over the weekend and he was having a great time making fun of her now.

I'm really disappointed in Paula, and I used to like her, I thought she was just a quirky old lady from the south who was totally above that region's sketchy past (and present to an extent) but it seems like some of the uglier aspects of southern culture have rubbed off on her, shame, but this is unacceptable.

He has never liked her, probably because being from the same general area, he smelt her bullshit.

The lady that brought the lawsuit must be dancing in the street. All this shit coming out will only help her case

Details!

Most notably he made a quick jab at the expense of the camera man (who happened to be black). After a slightly funny exchange in which the camera man almost tumbled off the small stage and Alton caught him from falling he said:

"You know if I were Paula Deen you'd be dead now."

Along with a bunch of mention of changing the nomenclature of 2 sticks of butter from a "Paula Deen of Butter" to something less scandalous and promising not to burn the tent down because "Food Networks seen enough controversy with white people burning things for one week."

Was quite funny.

What a huge mess and she deserves every bit of it, always turned the channel when she came on food network. Her defense is idiotic but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

^ lmao at Alton's jabs, would have loved to seen that.

Lol! Good stuff.

He looked more youthful than he has in recent years too, and apparently he's starting production on a new Food Network TV show that he will star in.

That is fantastic news, love his shows. Do they still re run the original iron chef or is it just the American version now?

A man who claims to be Paula Deen’s former employee has accused the disgraced TV chef for not compensating him for catering events outside of his work obligations.

Sheldon J. Ervin, who claims to have worked at Bubba’s Oyster House as a oyster cook from 2008 to 2010 told RadarOnline that Deen required her restaurant employees to regularly serve at catering events at her own Savannah mansion, and would compensate them in beer and liquor.

“I used to work for her parties and I spent so much time there I could go there today and punch in the code to her gate,” Ervin told the gossip site. He added that he filed an Equal Employment Opportunity & Diversity complaint against Deen.

Erwin, a newlywed with a baby on the way at the time, claimed he was never compensated for a graduation party that he and three-to-five other men helped set up.

“I didn’t want to, but they threatened our jobs and put it on the line,” he said.

Deen, 66, said in a her now controversial recorded deposition that she dreamed of having a Southern plantation-style wedding where black waiters would dress in a “black tie and white jacket” and serve guests.

He similarly claimed that she would allegedly have her employees dress in that same fashion for her own parties.

“They told us we all had to wear black slacks, black shoes and a white chef jacket with a hat,” he said. “If we didn’t have the money to buy it, they said they would give us the money to go buy it. I didn’t want to wear it because it was burning hot outside, but Miss Paula insisted.”

“Paula had us all stationed at a few shady spots in the yard,” he continued. “She wanted us all to stay in one spot. We weren’t allowed to move. They didn’t want us to interact or anything. They just wanted us to sit there and serve everyone and not say anything.”

Erwin said that being compensated with alcohol was “insulting an unfair.”

“I don’t even drink,” Erwin stated. “It was insulting and unfair. I was like, ‘Pay me!’”

Deen’s Food Network show has been canceled amid allegations of racism and sexism stemming from a $1.2 million lawsuit filed by a former employee. She has since released two YouTube videos where she apologized for using "inappropriate, hurtful language."

Erwin said that he’s pleased with the celebrity’s chef’s downfall.

“I’m so happy that this has finally come,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time.”

Please tell me that she insisted on being called "Miss Paula."

Because that would make this even more hilarious.

I for one am glad she is finally getting pulled off the air. I live in Savannah and every time I leave the state, people say I don't sound like I'm from Savannah. Dumb Southerner stereotypes be damned.

Miss Paula?

What about Massa Bubba?

She straight had them in the Jim Crow days. Probably even had um doing the Jump Jim Crow song and dance.

She's going to be on the Today show on Wednesday, for real this time. Kinda curious what she has to say about this, and those awkward apology youtube videos.

There is really nothing she can say at this point. She chose not to attend those other interviews. This is nothing more than damage control as the very last resort in order to salvage anything possible from her collapsed empire.

I'll make sure to grab the popcorn with extra butter y'all cause dis gone be good!

You're welcome.

You're essentially complaining that white people aren't allowed to be openly ragout t. That you're even concerned about it makes me think the thoughts are there. Yeah, minorities are hostle to white people at times, but sometimes it's hard to blame them considering how ignorant people treat them for no other reason than their skin color. I'd probably have a chip on my shoulder too. You know the last time I got singled out or judged because of my skin color? Oh right, never. It sure is tough being white and not being allowed to talk about how unfair it is.

And your essentially saying it's ok to be racist against whites because it's an understandable chip.

Racism is bad no matter how you put it. Yes, even against whites.

If we're going to go in circles and say "hey, they've been through all this they have a right to... " when does it end?

And here in Los Angeles, whites are the minorities. You do not want to be white in a sociology class here, singled outt every time.
