Perfect Dark impressions

Not really a Hamds on

One of the first game's that we saw when E3 opened its doors this morning was Rare's Perfect Dark Zero for the Xbox 360. We weren't allowed to get our hands on the game,

The build of Perfect Dark Zero that we were looking at was eight weeks old and running on Alpha development kits that, were told, have only a fraction of the power that will be available on the Xbox 360. The game still looked really great, although the frame rate was a but choppy at times. In the final game, Rare is shooting for a solid 30 frames per second, whether you're playing solo, or with three other players on the same screen.

One of the first game's that we saw when E3 opened its doors this morning was Rare's Perfect Dark Zero for the Xbox 360. We weren't allowed to get our hands on the game, but after being given some tidbits of information about the single-player game (including the fact that Zero is a prequel rather than a sequel to the original N64 game, set some three years earlier), we were treated to a lengthy demonstration of some of the multiplayer features you can look forward to.
They didn't know this before?

good job finding the only negative sounding paragraph in the impressions..
overall it looks to be quite promising.

Haha. Not only is 60fps not an option for Rare, even on the beastly next gen machines, but they are merely shooting for 30 fps. Hopefully they can achieve thier goal! :lol

Fuck off Rare!

Kinda off-topic:

That's why I still love PC gaming. When a game chugs on my console I can't do jack to make it run faster. With a PC I can go and shell $500 for a new hardware :)

Goddamnit!

Well what do you expect with breathtaking graphics like that? A solid 30fps is quite a tall order. Maybe they're rendering hundreds of Wallguys at once.

Pfft. I'm more inclined to return the game than spend $500 because some shitty ass developer couldn't optimize.

I want to know numbers.

We need to know how many wallguys per second (wps for the technically minded), does it take to slow the Xbox360 to sub30 frame performance levels?

Only then, will we truly understand its power.

They said they're shooting for 50!

30 FPS instead of 60 FPS?

50 Wall Guys instead of 100??

FUCK DAT NOIZE. KILLZONE!!!!

Oh fuck.

*grabs popcorn and sits down*

30 FPS?

I will adhere to my commitment to boycott any game not at 60 next gen.

I've been holding out for this game, giving RARE the benefit of (much) doubt. But if all they can do is target 30, then they can take a flying leap (right into Wall Guy).

The game better look nothing short of stunning when released if they plan on releasing this at 30 fps. Sadly, nothing points to this happening.

The guy who wrote this was just on gamespot live, he said it looked much better than anything Gamespot have recieved (ie the release screenshots).

50 players online? Wow.

We got to see two of Perfect Dark Zero's six multiplayer levels this morning, one set in a desert and one in a subway. Both of the maps looked pretty stunning, and were far too big for the measly two players that were showing us the game.

PD0 is doomed! :lol

Can't wait for this game :)

Didn't a lot of developers say that they didn't want to try for 60 frames this gen or some shit like that?

*sigh* What's worse than Wallguy?

Wallguy @ 30fps.

I guess all that power ain't gonna mean jack (same will happen with ps3 as well)... lazy ass devs are still gonna SET THE BAR LOW

WTF RARE WTF!?

EGM get in here!

Today, I saw a demo of Perfect Dark Zero running on a Xbox alpha kit (a PC) using an old ATI graphics card, not the final GPU from the Xbox 360, and was told the game was only using about 25% to 30% of the system's full power. And Perfect Dark Zero looked incredible. Incredible. It looked nearly as good as Gears of War, which, in my humble opinion is the best looking 360 game of the show so far (I saw that running in realtime too). So, simply put, Perfect Dark Zero shocked me.

After our 30-minute demo I was smiling, excited and still a little perplexed. Why didn't Microsoft show this on the showfloor, why didn't this very demo appear in motion in front of the hundreds of people crowded into the Shrine Auditorium? The demo I saw of Perfect Dark Zero, using an alpha kit running on a current-generation graphics card, is only running at 30% capacity. And it looked gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful, and nothing like the screenshots or clips you've seen so far. We'll have more on Perfect Dark very soon indeed.

Maybe it isn't the Rare coders that need better "supervision" after all, but whomever in 360 pr/marketing thought those early EGM screenshots could become anything but negative fanboy fodder. The PD0 rollercoaster continues on.

between the really disappointing early shots, the various joanna models, and now this new ign and gamespot info, actually speculating on the true nature of pdo is more fun than playing the game will probably be

Crow will be eaten, I said. Wait 'till this badboy is ready for 360 launch. System seller, indeed.

They better show us this 'gorgeous and incredibly different' pd0 soon, otherwise it will be clear how M$ sent out money hats to cover the pd0 accident...
