Perfect Dark Zero Kikizo Impressions

I would buy this for Goldeneye maps alone. I'm sure they'd probably restrict number of players in those levels, though, I can't imagine 50-some people running around in the cave. :\

Duncan loaded up a large desert map, and the amazing graphics were at once arresting. The pistol Joanna was holding was beautifully detailed with an equally realistic looking hand holding on to the gun. The environment looks beautiful; it takes place in a small town in a desert with all kinds of little intricate details. Duncan revealed that the impressive looking cobble stones on the roads through the town were all one flat texture, the game uses a technique called 'parallax mapping' which creates the illusion of 3D objects without using any polygons, leaving them to be used on more level props or character models. The game also seemed to sport a subtle motion blur effect as the game's character looked around or turned.

That sounds really, really nice!!!

According to Rare, all Perfect Dark Zero's content is complete, only enhancing the games engine and months of testing remains. Though the mentioned release date of "launch window" doesn't fill us with confidence, we're certainly very excited about Perfect Dark Zero - and you should be too.

Rare has 4-5 months to polish this game up!

This is good to hear.

Sounds like theyre going the Halo 2 route in only detailing multiplayer.
Yeah, I fear for the single player of this game. Multiplayer is great and all, but give us a great SP game as well.

Keep in mind this is from Kikizo... and that's all that needs to be said.

And they were wrong about PGR2, Halo 2, Top Spin etc ? Kikizo is a damn fine site, they always have lots of videos and new media.

Lets all just think for a second, who to believe ? One who has played the game, or a conspircay theorist forum dweller ?

I'd read in another interview that the game was fully designed and built on the XBox, so all they had to do was get the visuals up to next gen performance. Quite a bit can happen when the entire team is focused on that.

Yeah; the entire game is finished. Same with Kameo. Both are set to be polished and patched until release. I was talking about this the other day -- don't worry, it's true.

The Goldeneye maps thing is something they're always considering as well, though like the writer said here, there may be legal issues and it's subject to demand. Since there will be so many more players this time around, it seems less likely.

They'll both be masterpieces at this rate.

Edit: Oh, and in case you didn't see them before, don't miss my in-depth impressions of the game!

And my interview with Ken Lobb, which holds even more PD Zero information!

A new roll move was also frequently utilised, by tapping the R shoulder button in tandem with the joystick the camera will zoom out to third person and you will roll dodge. Botwood points out that this can be an important tactic considering how lethal headshots are in the game. Also of note was the cover move, by leaning against a corner and pressing A the game will go into third person and you will lean against the wall, Metal Gear Solid style.

The game's awesome library of weapons were what impressed us the most. PD Zero uses a weapon system similar to Halo in which weapons take up 'slots' and you only have four at your disposal. Rifles like the assault rifle or plasma rifle use three slots, whilst pistols only use one slot. There are an incredible 28 different weapons in the game, every one with a secondary function and some even with a third function.

Sounds awesome. PLEASE rare, don't fuck this up! I don't even care if it comes out 1-2months after X360's launch, just make sure it kicks ass.

yup. excitement levels rising again... dont let me down rare!

It's so funny to read these effusive reviews and then look at the bad screenshots and wonder is this a practical joke. We'll see. I'm not bashing, I certainly hope to be amazed.

I'm impressed by some of the shots, which are clearly from a later build than the 1up ones.

Really, I thought I had seen all those shots somewhere before. I wonder if these are pics from the latest build.

thanks othersteve... funny, we have a problem with too many steves in our group of friends, but after one steve beat the other down repeatedly in starcraft, we took to calling him realsteve.

Is the aiming like Halo :) or like Timesplitters :P ?

It doesn't matter! The 360 will allow you to use a custom and personalized "FPS configuration" regardless of game. How that works I don't know...perhaps it will allow you to "save" the configuration from Halo 2 or Timesplitters as you play it for use on another title.

My bad, now I remeber that TS3 has an option for straight aiming.

I hoe rare learned their lesson from the original Perfect Dark. ie. don't push the game beyond what it's capable of. Last time(in PD) we it got to as bad as 1 frame every 5 seconds, and no i didn't make a mistake.

can you jump in it now?

No, I don't really get why that's an issue with people. I think the roll move will be cooler than a jump...Oh shit, I'm being chased *rolls around behind the guy* eat lead bitch!. Should be fun :)
