Exactly. That's why I find the "Expected" responses here baffling.

Because many of us familiar with game production and have shipped games before saw enough signs to see through the PR stuff and figured a delay was much more probable. A Dec release would have meant a lot more activity seen on the retail front at the very least, you can't keep everything quiet on that side of things.

Weeks ago? More like yesterday. I mean, Nich just posted this in response to Anihawk speculating that "Westeners will look forward to Persona 5 a year from now". Why would he do that if Anihawk was, in fact, completely spot on? It just doesn't make sense.

I really expect this to be Atlus trolling with its fans. They know that people think it's delayed and will unveil on their special stage on the 19th that, hey, guess what, it's coming 2015 after all.

I don't really care if it's delayed - 2015 is packed anyway -, but all of this just doesn't make a lick of sense.

I believe Nich hasn't been at Atlus for some time now. Things easily could have changed since he was last there.

But they kept saying it'll come out this year. Well at least there's still Tales of Zestiria and Xenoblade Chronicles X.

I think some of you guys are idiots right now.

Persona 3 released in July 13, 2006 in Japan. Persona 4 released in July 10, 2008 in Japan. And now Persona 5 is about to release in July 2015 in Japan. Why? Because, they're all SUMMER releases.

No wonder why Persona 5 was about to release in Winter 2014 on the PS3, no wonder why Persona 5 was to release this year in PS3 and PS4. They're just playing with us like a damn fiddle because of the anticipation!
I mean like, Persona 4 was announced back in March 2008 and then Persona 4 was released back in July that year in Japan. But when Persona 5 comes along and was announced back in November 2013 and it's all because of the anticipation... Get it?

Really, though, this just shows that Atlus is bad at PR, at least for this game. The fact that they dropped this announcement at the end of the first trailer in months has negated most if not all of the hype the trailer would have generated. Had they quietly announced the delay a few weeks/months ago separate from any other major information release (like most games handle delays these days) any disappointment would have worn off by now, and they would have saved themselves the trouble of having to explain why they kept saying it was going to make 2015 when they clearly knew it wasn't.
