CAN YOU FEEL THE SWAG? IT'S GENIUS!

not feeling the graphics - they somehow look worse than catherine did (do a side by side comparison of them hanging out vs catherine at the bar).

otherwise, the aesthetics look great - menus/cover system/soundtrack are in line.

MCs seem too carbon copy of previous, but I didn't expect much.

Meh on the cat. whatever.

Because YouTube compressed video is such a good indicator of graphics fidelity.

now any trailer about the next persona game suddenly has 1m+ views guaranteed. i've no idea why P5 blew up the way it did, but it is interesting to think about.

Persona's presence, even in the west, has been slowly growing over the years. With all of these spin-offs, remakes, and everything else, I think its popularity was going to really come forth after a 7 year wait once the next mainline game was to be revealed. It helps tremendously that this is a PlayStation 4 game, too.

I won't say this is true but you gotta remember that one was a puzzle game with little freedom, this will probably have a city hub and dungeons. So even if true, I can't blame them

Honesty one of the best trailers for a game l've ever seen. My hype is through the roof now. Everything about it looks incredible. And the music, holy shit! I like the song in the trailer more than anything from the other games. Man, this is gonna be such a great game and I cannot wait.

I hope there's more party members than the two blondes (siblings? that would be new) and a cat thing. They all seem like interesting characters, but I like how large the casts always are.
Pretty much a given. Neither P3 nor P4 revealed their entire casts initially.

True - but one is years ahead, and this is likely a PC based alpha...

Antibolo - your sarcasm is noted.

it just makes me wonder whether atlus has been aware how popular this series has been getting in the west, or it just hit them out of nowhere when they suddenly got >1 million views upon releasing the P5 trailer.

P3 is incredibly anime.

In P3 you don't have to go through the same stupid scene over and over again every time you save someone: Chie saying stupid things that make sense, Yukiko laughing because of a dumb joke, Etc.

It was unbearable all the fucking time.

P3 cast at least were actually more interesting.

Oh my gooooood

hype hype hype hype

The thing I loved most was the teacher throwing something at the MC.

Man this game... THIS GAME

P3 main character was too withdrawn to say he had much swag about him.

These guys barely have that much personality of their own in the games, lol. All of the hijinx is really the thing that separates them and then the adaptations.

P4 and P3 in general. It's just the P4 MC gets more swag tossed at him because of the Scooby Gang hijinx

P3? That blue haired depressing emo punk is the opposite of swag.

And even Yu really only gets it mostly off of the anime, guy is annoying in the Arena games with his friendship talk.

Here's one: http://persona-2ch.com/

The image posted in this one is pretty funny. The thread title is "The P5 trailer is popular overseas!? The amount of views and comments is too much"

Ok, that's pretty funny. Most of those commenters seem surprised by the popularity of the stream and Persona in the west. My favorite comment is someone being baffled how Persona is more popular than Dragon Quest in the west, that he doesn't understand our taste in games and that it's pretty similar to how strangely popular Sonic is in the west.

compression aside, I'm favoring catherine over P5...

Catherine definitely looks significantly better.

But Catherine is easily the best rendition of an anime art-style I've ever seen in a videogame and it also takes place in one room. so it somehow seems a bit silly to hold that up as a standard P5 must pass.

Yeah, its easy to tell P5 is using the Catherine engine.

It's reusing assets from Catherine, but not the engine.

True enough, but Yu always seemed more outgoing in his conversation choices(Though you could "..." all day long if you wanted to I suppose) and Persona 4 Arena gave him a definitive personality that has poisoned my perception of him.

What's up with the obsession that Persona fans here seems to have about swag? I don't remember being an important factor in Persona 3 and 4. Am I missing something?

It's pretty much a meme from how everyone lets the MC coat that throat.

Atlus really kind of fed into it with the anime.

When you put those two together like that... wow, Persona 5 really does look amazing.

it just makes me wonder whether atlus has been aware how popular this series has been getting in the west, or it just hit them out of nowhere when they suddenly got >1 million views upon releasing the P5 trailer.

Yeah, it'd be interesting to know what Atlus Japan's perception of the western audience for Persona is like. I keep feeling that they underestimate the success they can have in our market, for some reason. I'd like Persona 5 to defy those expectations.

Yeah, its easy to tell P5 is using the Catherine engine.

But it's not.

Its not? Has Atlus said so? Point me to that please.

Hashino shared one technical bit about P5. For Catherine, Team Persona made use of a third party engine. They've since completed work on their own engine. With this new internal engine, Hashino believes that converting their ideas into game form will go considerably smooth.
Catherine used the Gamebryo engine, the same engine used for Fallout 3 or The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

No other information other than 2015?

In terms of release? Unfortunately not. Hashino had this to say, though:
Hashino: Things are really coming along and we’re starting to hit our quality benchmarks in terms of what goes into the game, so at this stage, we’re hard at work building the game and fleshing it out. We’re just as eager to bring this game out finally so they can enjoy what all we’ve been working on and day by day, we’re getting closer to the finish line. It’s just going to be a little while longer now before it’s here.
It'll probably be after Persona 4: Dancing All Night, which releases on June 25th, because of that game's first-print bonus of the special Persona 5 movie Blu-ray.

Catherine definitely looks significantly better.

Say what? On a technical level it looks pretty on-par to me. The only thing that looks better in that Catherine shot is the transparency on the drinks, and that may be a stylistic choice. As far as the cell shading and the lighting/shadowing, P5 looks great. That subway scene is gorgeous.

In P4G you could be romantically involved with a bunch of people but you can only spend christmas with one romantic interest so be prepared to crush some hearts as you tell girl after girl "no I don't want to spend it with you"

Such a douche protag. But so much swag. In fact all of it.

heh, just wait and see what happens on valentines day when you try and get with all of them leading up to it

Yeah, like I said. It's really a function of the scooby gang getting into crazy shit in P4 that helps a lot. P3 really doesn't have that outside of like Operation Babe-hunt and that one encounter with Yukari. Fes had the school festival too, i think but yeah, they dialed it up to 11 for P4 and P4G.

I'm loving the character designs(MC looks so much better to me with that outfit), loving the style choices they took (still got some of the best UIs in games), and the game being about thieves is just too fucking awesome. I'm now more excited for this game and almost anything, just knowing this much is making me too excited.

The game is looking good, the real life proportions to the characters makes it so much better, you can see the the generation jump from the PS2 games. The atmosphere in some the scenes is really nice too, the coffee shop gives me Catherine vibes, like a hang out spot for the cast. The casino/whatever that place was at the end looks amazing too. It's looking like the dungeons are going to be great, not all that hard to improve on that vs P4 but damn I hope it's a huge jump in improvement.

All I'm hearing about the deadly sins sounds interesting, the main character being wrath makes sense because of that ending flame on bit. Shit, he looks so much more badass.

A sense of style and confidence in its own identity that is rarely depicted by any other game. A debut trailer not chock full of CG cutscenes. Its unrelenting devotion to being different from its predecessors, totally toppling what one's expectations of the game might have been until now.

Refreshing is right.

Best explanation for what makes it so good, refreshing indeed.

Wow, ok. I'll eat crow now. That is pretty awesome they made a new engine. Wonder if other games will use it after P5.
Persona 6 will probably use the same engine.
Now that they're done developing the engine, getting more Persona games out on it will be quicker.

Basically a reference to how much of a pimp the MC from P4 can be. It's pretty much a meme, don't read too much into it.
Thank you, didn't really know about it and haven't only played Persona 3 and 4 I wasn't really aware of where this was coming from.
lol
P4 and P3 in general. It's just the P4 MC gets more swag tossed at him because of the Scooby Gang hijinx
But as characters in the main games they don't seem to have swag, especially the one in Persona 3, unless I miss the real meaning of the word.
What the...I guess this is from the anime, lol.
Because Yu came out with full swagger. I don't think it was a thing with previous Persona's? I'm not a long time fan. It's my fav series but I wasn't around with Persona 3 came out.

So the whole "swag" thing as I understand it, is a play off Yu's character.
I guess I have to replay Persona 4, because I don't remember him coming out with full swagger, lol.

It's pretty much a meme from how everyone lets the MC coat that throat.

Atlus really kind of fed into it with the anime.
Thank you, didn't watch the anime and don't have the fighting games, seems that Persona has changed.
lol
